Racing NSW has learned of the passing of Mr Norm Thomason aged 68yo.
Mr Thomason has been Clerk of the Course at Kembla Grange since 1999 and passed away suddenly on 11 January.
Nowra-based trainer Warren Ganderton’s mother was Norm Thomason’s sister and he spoke glowingly of his uncle.
“Norm lived and breathed horses all his life,” Warren said.
“Norm started riding when he was 10 and had always worked with horses as well as working three or four days a week at the sawmill – he’d been working there for over 50 years.
“He used to ride work and train horses at Worrigee near Nowra before the current Archer Racetrack was built.
“Norm was one of seven kids, and we were all very close, so much so that I’d see Norm every day and he was still active and regularly helped me out with my horses.
“And he was still Clerk of the Course at Kembla every second Saturday when they race.
"We are still trying to come to terms with his passing.”
NOTE: A funeral service will be held at Shoalhaven City Turf Club, Albatross Road, Nowra on Friday, 20th January 2023 commencing at 12:30pm.
