Tommy Berry The One To Follow At Wyong (Tuesday)

By Gary Harley

Tommy Berry has seven mounts at Tuesday’s Wyong race meeting and three of those are early favourites. The Hawkes stable trains two of Berry’s well-fancied mounts and both are coming off creditable first-up performances.

Sacred Field ($2.40 favourite on TAB), a three-year-old, contests the 1100m Great Northern Maiden Plate. He debuted with a half length second behind Park Avenue at Randwick in May. First-up at Gosford on October 28 he was run down late and beaten 0.27 of a length.

The other Hawkes runner is Glamour And Glory ($3.10 fav) which runs in the 1000m Wyong Leagues Group Maiden Handicap. The filly had two starts in Victoria during the autumn in which she was placed at Sandown and Bendigo. She was green in the home straight when beaten two lengths at Hawkesbury on October 21 and has the rails barrier on Tuesday.

The Snowden stable trains Berry’s shortest-priced favourite, Ka Bling ($2.30) in the De Bortoli Wines Benchmark 64 Handicap (1200m). The 3yo has had three starts for a Wyong win and placings at Hawkesbury and Newcastle.

RACE 1, WYONG RACE CLUB FUNCTION CENTRE CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE, 2100M: Oceanic Flash ($1.80 fav) steps up to the longer trip after a 3.74 length win over 1850m in a Newcastle Maiden on October 30. He was placed at Gosford and Wyong last prep and he will be a short-priced favourite. Tea Leaves ($2.15) was narrowly beaten at Gosford first up before a failure on the heavy track at Kembla. Seporto ($8) is best of the others.
SELECTIONS: 1 OCEANIC FLASH, 4 TEA LEAVES, 3 SEPORTO

RACE 2, BUSINESS WYONG RACE DAY DECMBER 9 BM64, 1600M: Miss Scalini ($5) is knocking on the door after two recent placings. She was beaten three quarters of a length at Gosford last start and two starts back she was run down by the stayer French Response at Newcastle. The mare is an on-pacer and Bowman has the mount. For Valour ($1.95 fav) led all the way for an easy win at Hawkesbury last start and Go Gazza ($5.50) is fitter for two runs back.
SELECTIONS: 4 MISS SCALINI, 3 FOR VALOUR, 1 GO GAZZA

RACE 3, TAB.COM.AU MAIDEN HANDICAP, 1600M: Bon Vivant ($3.80) is a Godolphin 3yo trained by James Cummings and Bowman will ride. He had a couple of starts at Flemington during the winter and he finished midfield in the Listed Gibson Carmichael after coming from last. First-up at Newcastle on October 30 he was never on the track with no cover and laid in up the straight. The 1600 is ideal. Al Sahara ($2.90 fav) has been in good form without winning but is unlikely to run as went around at Scone on Monday. Koondeeman ($4) was placed first-up at Kembla and will improve sharply. Gerardjoseph ($8) showed a big improvement last time.
SELECTIONS: 6 BON VIVANT, 3 KOONDEEMAN, 7 GERARDJOSEPH

RACE 4, WYONG LEAGUES GROUP MAIDEN HANDICAP, 1000M: Glamour And Glory ($3.10 fav) is ready to win after a creditable first-up run at Hawkesbury. She was beaten two lengths by subsequent Gosford winner Dehorned Unicorn in a sizzling 56.51 for the 1000M. She has the rails barrier, Tommy Berry and has winkers for the first time. Compassionate ($4.60) resumes after a trial win and she is speedy. Derry Grove ($4) if he gets a run has won two trials.
SELECTIONS: 4 GLAMOUR AND GLORY, 5 COMPASSIONATE, 15 DERRY GROVE

RACE 5, GREAT NORTHERN MAIDEN PLATE, 1100M: Sacred Field ($2.40 fav) was a long odds-on favourite when narrowly beaten first-up at Gosford on October 28. He was only beaten half a length by Park Avenue on debut at Randwick in May and is another good ride for Berry. Bartoselli ($3.10) was only beaten a length first-up at Randwick on Melbourne Cup day and he was placed at Canterbury in May. Derry Grove ($4) is trialling well.
SELECTIONS: 8 SACRED FIELD, 1 BARTOSELLI, 3 DERRY GROVE

RACE 6, WYONG MAGIC MILLIONS DECEMBER 15 BM 64, 1200M: Passistas ($2.90 fav) has a good record and she will be hard to beat with the 2kg claim. He has had five starts for three wins and two placings and was narrowly beaten in his past two starts at Hawkesbury and Gosford. The 1200m is ideal. Sweet Ruby ($3.40) was galloped on when runner-up at Gosford last start. She had good form last prep. Shotgun Alli ($6) had no luck last start and she could fill a place.
SELECTIONS: 1 PASSISTAS, 4 SWEET RUBY, 3 SHOTGUN ALLI

RACE 7, DE BORTOLI WINES BM 64 HANDICAP, 1200M: Ka Bling ($2.30 fav) narrowly beaten in a stronger race at Newcastle last start. He sprinted quickly in the straight when a winner on this track on September 30. He has a lovely barrier and could box seat. French Marine ($6) is in good form with two recent country wins and a Warwick Farm placing. Land Of Valens ($7) was run down late at Goulburn last start and will be fitter.
SELECTIONS: 6 KA BLING, 1 FRENCH MARINE, 2 LAND OF VALENS

RACE 8, WYONG’S NEXT RACE MEETING NOVEMBER 25, 1000M: The Neon Knight ($8) will be at good odds and can win if she finds her best form. Two starts back he was placed in record time over 1000m on the Kensington Track. Flora ($3.40 fav) has won four of her last five starts all at Grafton and she is quick. Mr Polar ($8.50) has a chance.
