Suprina To Continue Hot Winning Streak At Kembla (Tues)

She took 14 starts to break through but speedy mare Suprina is now on a winning hot streak that trainer Jarrod Austin is determined to see continue at Kembla Grange this week.

Suprina ($3.20 favourite on TAB) is set to line up in pursuit of a fourth consecutive win in the Dapto Conditional Benchmark 68 Handicap (1000m) on Tuesday.

The four-year-old mare has put together victories at Muswellbrook, Queanbeyan and Orange in recent weeks and is loving life in her second preparation under Austin's care.

She started her career with Anthony and Sam Freedman before joining Austin's Warwick Farm stable midway through last year.

After a string of near misses in her first preparation for her new yard, Austin believes the classy daughter of Super One is now starting to put it all together.

"Her first preparation with me, she just wanted to do a few things wrong," he said.

"She would over-race and run off the track so it took a few runs to get her going and teach her how to race.

"She's turned the corner now and is putting it all together."

While only racing in the country recently, the margins of Suprina's recent successes indicate she is ready to step up into provincial grade.

She has won her past three by margins of 4-1/2 lengths, eight lengths and two lengths in a hat-trick of wins over 1000m.

"She certainly hasn't beaten much yet but has done it quite easily and put them away comfortably," Austin said. "I think she is up to this grade, it's just unfortunate that it's a heavy track on Tuesday.

"In fairness, I held her back last preparation when we tried to teach her how to race and since then we've let her stride forward herself and she has shown her high cruising speed.

"The concern is the heavy track takes away that cruising speed but I think she will run well."

Kembla was again rated a Heavy 10 on Monday with Racing NSW Stewards to inspect the track again on Tuesday morning.

Jess Taylor will ride Suprina on Tuesday with Austin hoping the race can provide a springboard into a Midway event at Randwick on Saturday week.

"We will look at heading to a Midway over 1100m in a fortnight's time," he said. "I am not sure she will get more than six furlongs [1200m] yet but I think she can get over more than 1000m."
