Promising Ishani Set To Break Through At Wyong (Thursday)

By Gary Harley

The lightly raced Ishani ($5 on TAB), an I Am Invincible filly unlucky when placed first-up at Newcastle on November 27, can atone in the Red Smoke Alarms-Omni-Levy Agencies-IPD Maiden Plate (1000m) at the Wyong race meeting on Thursday.

Raced in partnership by Coolmore and Kia Ora Stud, Ishani has faced the starter twice. On debut at Hawkesbury in April she led in an 1100m maiden and she was run down by In Secret.

Ishani finished 3½-lengths behind the bonnie filly which won the Group 1 Coolmore at Flemington in October. Ishani was very heavily backed ($5.50 into $3.60) first-up at Newcastle on November 27 and she had no luck.

The filly drew barrier 11 in a field of 11 over 900m and after beginning quickly she drifted back to third last. She made up many lengths down the long straight to go down by 0.86 of a length and the winner Flying Shelly had won a number of trials.

The Michael Freedman-trained filly has drawn okay on Thursday and was a $5.50 chance when betting opened.

Freedman will also saddle up early fancy Meod ($3.40) in the Haneco Benchmark 64 Handicap (1000m) and Ponca ($5.50) in the Matchmaster-Evolt-Trader-App Class 1 (1200m). The filly was impressive in winning on debut at Wyong on November 24.

She led all the way to win convincingly and she draws well on Thursday. Tom Sherry rides both the Freedman representatives.

Local mare Lady Superspy ($4.40) is due for a change of luck in the General Trade Suppliers Benchmark 64 Handicap (1600m). She beat one home at Hawkesbury on November 17 but she was only 2.3 lengths from the winner and never saw daylight.

Last over the Gosford ‘mile' Lady Superspy got too far back and made up plenty of ground late. She is in the Tracey Bartley stable and Keiren McEvoy has the mount. Wyong trainer Kim Waugh could strike early with Sir Godric ($2 favourite) in the opening event, the Ledvance-HPM Legrand-Prysmian-Hager Maiden Plate (1350m).

RACE 1, LEDVAVNCE-HPM LEGRAND-PRYSMIAN-HAGER MIDWAY MAIDEN PLATE, 1350m: Sir Godric ($2 fav) was beaten less than a length in his second race start at Newcastle on November 27. He had not raced for six months and he was beat by an odds-on favourite. He will be fitter for the run. Frosbie ($3) another local that was placed at Wyong on November 24 and should run well. Ahead of the Game ($13) has trialled OK and Reece Jones is aboard.
SELECTIONS: 6 SIR GODRIC, 2 FROSBIE, 8 AHEAD OF THE GAME

RACE 2, SHARKRACK CLASS 1 MAIDEN PLATE, 2100m: Vincenzo ($2.90 equal fav) is lightly raced and looks hard to beat. He came from near last when he won on debut over 1500m at Hawkesbury on October 20. Last start he was doing his best work late although beaten when placed over 1500m at Kembla last start. He is bred to run the longer trip. Mum’s The Boss ($2.90 eq fav) was placed at Goulburn over 1600m first-up then failed in a much stronger field than this last start is a threat. Who’s In Winny ($5) hasn’t been away in her past three starts.
SELECTIONS: 3 VINCENZO, 4 MUM’S THE BOSS. 9 WHO’S IN WINNY

RACE 3, THORN-OMEGA POWER-PSA-SCHNEIDER MAIDEN PLATE, 1600m: Spitfire ($2.30 fav) is ready to win after two runs from a spell. He has been placed in five of his 12 starts. Although unplaced, he hasn’t been far away in both starts this preparation over shorter distances. Jamrock ($6) was beaten four lengths in his only start at Newcastle on November 27. Kaisa ($8.50) made ground at Scone and is a likely improver here.
SELECTIONS: 6 SPITFIRE, 8 JAMROCK, 11 KAISA

RACE 4, RED SMOKE ALARMS-OMNI-LEVY AGENCIES-IPD MAIDEN PLATE, 1000m: Ishani ($5) will be hard to beat after an eye-catching performance at Newcastle recently. The blueblood came from near last over the short course of 900m and stormed home to fail by 0.86 of a length. She finished 3.54 lengths behind Group 1 winner In Secret in her debut run at Hawkesbury on April 13. Ramones ($3 fav) is talented and has been placed in three metropolitan starts. Anavinci ($6) is on debut after a trial win.
SELECTIONS: 11 ISHANI, 6 RAMONES, 9 ANAVINCI

RACE 5, MATCHMASTER-EVOLT-TRADER-APP CLASS 1, 1200m: Invictus Lad ($4 fav) had very good trial form before he was a long odds-on favourite and stormed home to win a Gosford maiden on November 19. He has drawn awkward but is gifted and will be storming home. Shines ($4.80) has speed and won a recent trial while Ponca ($5.50) won a Gosford maiden on November 19.
SELECTIONS: 4 INVICTUS LAD, 2 SHINES, 9 PONCA

RACE 6, HANECO BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP, 1000m: Tsarina Sophia’s ($3.80) has only started once for an impressive win at Kembla on May 3. The filly trialled nicely at Rosehill recently and she draws well and Avdulla rides. Meod ($3.40) led all the way to win at Wyong on debut on November 24 and she can lead. Boomsong ($3.30 fav) is quick and is racing well.
SELECTIONS: 11 TSARINA SOPHIA, 10 MEOD, 1 BOOMSONG

RACE 7, GENERAL TRADE SUPPLIERS BENCHMARK 64, 1600m: Lady Superspy ($4.40) has had no luck in her past two starts. She never had a clear run in the straight when beaten 2.3 lengths at Hawkesbury on November 17. Last start she came from a mile back when a fast finishing third at Gosford on November 30. Da Nang Star ($4 fav) is in good form and has a 3kg claim. Mussenphere ($5.50) is enjoying a good preparation.
SELECTIONS: 7 LADY SUPERSPY, 2 DA NANG STAR, 8 MUSSENPHERE
