Neil Evans' Tips For Wyong (Friday)

By Neil Evans

Track soft 6 and rail true so on-pace early before gradual trend away from the fence and off the speed

Race 1 MAIDEN PLATE (1100m):

Competitive and open race at set weights, and some lightly raced 4YOs showing promise. One of those, Randwick-based 5. Splendid Surprise was good in the Heavy on debut before taking on some smart ones in a 2YO and 3YO Maiden last start when had to be used up early to gain the lead. Was scratched from Hawkesbury on Thursday, and can break through third-up.

Dangers: Big watch on debutant 5YO gelding Rosehill gelding 2. Eighth Immortal (I Am Invincible x Agate by Stratum) - and he is a part owner - for a stable renowned for getting them ready. The bubble has done nothing but burst on Randwick gelding 6. Super Pins who has gone under as a well backed hot favourite in three runs on three different tracks to commence his career, but is back in trip and gets the blinkers first time so cannot dismiss. Include Warwick Farm mare 7. Princess Siri first-up off two trials, latest sat wide and still finished strongly under a nice grip, and draws the fence. Expect 4YO Gosford gelding 3. Estroverto to be in the finish. Showed steady improvement over middle distance earlier in the year, and returns as gelding off a nice trial this track.

How to play it: Splendid Surprise to win and first four 2,5,6/2,3,5,6,7. Odds and Evens (First 2): Split.

Race 2 3YO MAIDEN PLATE (1350m):

Not easy settling on one here in a thinner race. Rosehill gelding 2. Dummy Run resumes off a fair trial, with a nice draw, and did tackle much stronger juvenile races earlier in the year.

Dangers: Well bred colt 3. Kuzco Lad was no match for the winner on the Canberra synthetic second-up despite being heavily backed, and would need to find a length here up in trip.Expect natural improvement from Warwick Farm gelding 1. Antarctic Ocean at second career start jumping from a nice barrier, with leading rider going on. Randwick filly 5. Capitoline Lady hasn't done much in three starts this prep, but senior rider back on from a good barrier, and this isn't strong. Rival Randwick filly 8. My Sweet Fish has received plenty of market support, and continues to improve after three runs back from a spell. Drawn to sit off the fence with a trail, and should be in the finish.

How to play it: Dummy Run each way and quinella 2 and 3. Odds and Evens: Split.

Race 3 4YO & UP MAIDEN HCP (1350m):

Keen on 4YO Central Coast gelding 4. Monterey Lad first-up after hitting the line nicely under a hold in a recent trial, and was scratched from Taree on Monday.

Dangers: Having just his second run in nearly a year, 4YO Warwick Farm gelding 2. Born And Wild will go close. Resumed with an even effort at Kembla, and drawn to find a lovely position. Randwick 4YO gelding 1. Prospero has been honest in two career runs so far, and will again roll forward, so smaller and tighter track should suit his pattern.

How to play it: Monterey Lad to win and quinella 2 and 4. Odds and Evens: Evens.

Race 4 MAIDEN HCP (1600m):

Looks a race in two! Northern Hemisphere-bred 4YO Wyong gelding 1. Succendam was very good on debut at Scone finishing hard, and is bred to get over plenty of ground, although second-up to the mile under 59kg is still a task.

Dangers: Improving Warwick Farm gelding 2. War Deck hasn't shirked the task in three runs back behind some progressive ones, and can peak here fourth-up at the right trip. Big gap to the rest headed by 6YO gelding 10. Trust The Boss who can get into the placings dropping significantly in weight from a good draw.

How to play it: Succendam to win and quinella 1 and 2. Odds and Evens: Split.

Succendam runs second at Scone on July 22

Race 5 BM 70 HCP (1600m):

Provided he gets some early cover, Newcastle 6YO gelding 1. Clevanicc is the one to beat, with a 3kg claim, after two strong closing efforts over similar trips in deeper metro fields.

Dangers: Warwick Farm 4YO mare 4. Positive Peace improved back on top of the ground last start, and while this is a little tougher, she's hard fit. Gosford 5YO gelding 3. Zoffany's Lad can really mix his form. Dropped out last start at Canterbury after doing it tough early in the race, but at his best is an each-way hope, with the winkers coming off.

How to play it: Clevanicc to win. Odds and Evens: Split.

Race 6 CL1 HCP (1200m):

Tough race. Progressive 4YO Randwick gelding 1. Battle Cry who has been raced sparingly this prep is banging on the door for a second career win. Was run down late in a decent Class 2 this track three runs back before finishing hard to just miss at Kembla this grade last start. Draws to park just behind the speed.

Dangers: Query on 4YO Randwick mare 2. Sangita who hasn't raced for 10 months, but trialled okay in heavy ground for leading metro stable. Progressive 3YO Hawkesbury filly 9. Islands careered away to win her maiden second-up at Kembla, and can measure up here.

How to play it: Battle Cry to win. Odds and Evens: Split.

Race 7 BM 64 HCP (1100m):

Fairly open affair, although looks ideal for local 5YO mare 8. Venture Capital down in weight second-up after hitting the line hard resuming in a good Class 2 at Scone.'

Dangers: Expect local 6YO gelding 7. Soul Revival to run a race fresh after some valiant closing efforts against stronger last prep, including finishing well down the track behind extra smart Classique Legend. Another home track improver, 4YO gelding 9. Defeat has been freshened off two solid closing runs, and from a good gate can also drive into the finish.

How to play it: Venture Capital each way and box exacta 7,8,9. Odds and Evens: Split.

Race 8 BM 64 HCP (1350m):

Good deep race to finish. Keen on 6YO Gosford gelding 2. Fast Tycoon at a big price who has tackled stronger in three solid runs back. Draws beautifully, with a 3kg claim, and ready to peak. Stable going great guns, and was scratched from Taree on Monday.

Dangers: Newcastle 5YO gelding 1. The Outcast has put four wins together in and around this grade, and still gets in well at the weights after regular rider's 2kg claim. He'll do his thing again parking just off the speed with a trail and try to pounce early in the straight. Local 5YO gelding 3. Little Steiny kept improving to narrowly win a Class 2 this track last start, and while he's probably at the top of his prep in this company, senior rider does the steering from a cosy draw. Another local gelding 4. Neruda gets in okay at the weights after rider's 3kg claim. Won three back at Muswellbrook before chasing The Outcast in his last two. Resuming 4YO Rosehill gelding 5. Beaufort Park; and 7YO Randwick gelding and last start Kembla winner 7. One Of The Kind who also gets a 3kg allowance; are best of the rest.

How to play it: Fast Tycoon each way and first four: 1,2/1,2,3,4,5,7.
