Neil Evans' Tips For Gosford (Tuesday)

By Neil Evans

Track Soft 6 and rail true so should play even early with slight trend away from the fence

Race 1 MAIDEN PLATE (1000m):

One of three 2YO's should dominate at set weights in a race of little depth. Warwick Farm filly 6. Advance Party was competitive at huge odds in a decent maiden on debut, and looks a good thing.

Dangers: Rosehill filly 7. Cloud Spirit has done little in two runs so far, but this is a big drop in quality, draws the fence and gets the blinkers on; while Randwick-based 5. Avalaunche was well beaten in a much deeper race at Hawkesbury, and can improve here on firmer footing.

How to play it: Advance Party to win and quinella 6 and 7.

Race 2 3YO MAIDEN HCP (1600m):

Like 3YO Wyong filly 5. Lavish Rose fourth-up. Was strong late in a good maiden at Cessnock two runs back before finishing hard again over the mile. Ready to win!

Dangers: Randwick 3YO gelding and hot favourite 1. Discombe is four runs into the prep, and was only overhauled late at Wyong this trip last start; while Randwick 3YO colt 3. Highland Skipper can pounce ridden a little quieter from the good gate. Finished nicely two runs back at Kembla before fading late this track and trip when ridden more aggressively.

How to play it: Lavish Rose to win and quinella 1 and 5.

Race 3 BM 64 HCP (1600m):

Rosehill 4YO mare 9. Press Review is on the rise for top metro stable. Was strong late in a CL2 at Wyong two runs back before stepping up to the mile and finishing over the top when heavily backed.
'
Dangers: Improving 3YO Newcastle filly 4. Scenic Sight can take another step for leading stable after charging home to win a CL2 at Port Macquarie as a well backed favourite. Two 3YO's Goulburn-based 7. Pauldron and Warwick Farm-trained 5. Picaro are both places hopes; while keep watch on Rosehill-based ex Singaporean 6YO 1. Executive Chairman who hasn't started for nearly eight months, but has been gelded and had two trials.

How to play it: Press Review to win and first four: 4-9/1-4-5-7-9.

Race 4 MAIDEN HCP (1900m):

Thin race sets up well for 4YO Wyong gelding 1. Grand Eagle who has been banging down the door, and gets his chance with a 3kg claim. Wasn't far off More Than A Horse two runs back at Newcastle, who has since won again, before well backed and just edged out at home over the mile.

Dangers: While the rest have been well beaten lately, Randwick 4YO 8. Road To Blue Sky mixes his form, but should be competitive from the good barrier on the limit weight.

How to play it: Grand Eagle to win and quinella 1 and 8.

Race 5 2YO MAIDEN PLATE (1100m):

Randwick filly 9. L'cosmo has the race experience and should be peaking after two solid runs back in town.

Dangers: Hawkesbury filly 13. Special Date resumes off two nice trials and draws the fence. Newcastle gelding 4. Roman Candle (Savabeel x Candelabra by Pins) has had two recent trials, winning the latest open class at Muswellbrook in dominant fashion when pushed right out.

How to play it: L'cosmo to win and box exacta 4-9-13.

Race 6 BM 64 HCP (2100m):

Keen on 3YO Randwick gelding 6. Snippetspeed who has attacked the line hard in his last couple against stronger at Randwick and Canterbury, and can peak here up in trip.

Dangers: Newcastle 3YO gelding 7. Bedivere comes out of that same BM 70 at Canterbury behind Guise when also finishing strongly, and previously carried 61kg to overpower a weaker field at Taree. Promising 3YO Rosehill gelding 5. The Bounty has careered away to win his last two at Bathurst in weaker company, and is ready for the step up in grade; Newcastle mare 9. So You Merge is slowly working through her grades, and is down in weight, but this is tougher.

How to play it: Snippetspeed each way and trifecta 5-6-7/5-6-7-9.

Race 7 CL2 HCP (1200m):

Tough and open race. Improving 3YO Newcastle gelding 2. Only Wanna Sing looks ready to win third-up after rattling home in a BM 64 at Hawkesbury and then closing off strong again at Wyong.

Dangers: Warwick Farm 3YO gelding 4. Lancaster Bomber has taken a while to produce his best this prep, but was strong through the line in a good BM 64 this track last start, and should be peaking. Wyong 4YO 7. Sneaky Fella resumes off a long break for form stable. Wyong mare 9. Oxford Angel didn't get a lot of luck covering ground second-up, and is better suited here dropping significantly in weight; while rival Wyong filly 3. Buckin' Beauty disappointed at Kembla last start, but returns to the track where she won a CL1 from the front two runs back.

How to play it: Only Wanna Sing each way.

Race 8 CL1 HCP (1000m):

Smart 3YO Rosehill filly 5. Chilled Rose is much better placed here after finishing hard in a BM 64 this track two runs back before overpowered in stronger metro company.

Dangers: Randwick 3YO 3. Buzz was a dominant first-up winner at Hawkesbury when heavily backed, and while this is tougher, draws to get plenty of cover just behind the speed. Rival Randwick filly 6. Starry improved to just miss at Hawkesbury second-up, and well weighted after rider's 3kg claim; while Newcastle filly 8. Miss Powerbelle resumes and has plenty of early speed.

How to play it: Chilled Rose to win.
