Neil Evans' Tips For Gosford (Tuesday)

By Neil Evans

Track Good 4 & rail out 3m so should play predominantly on-pace.

Race 1 MAIDEN HCP (1100m):

Well-bred gelding 2. Vendome looks over the odds first-up from a nice draw. Debuted at Group 3 level last autumn, and while hasn't started for nearly six months, recent trial behind the smart Kolding who then came out and won resuming was forward enough.

Dangers: Hot favourite 4. Kylease fought hard on debut in heavy ground at Warwick Farm after being heavily backed and is the obvious threat; while debutant 3. Jaytees (Dreamscape x Play Katey by Brief Truce) did it well at both ends in a recent 900m Rosehill trial; and Randwick gelding 5. Sir Owen looks much stronger ahead of his second prep off two nice trials.

How to play it: Quinella 2 and 4.

Race 2 C, G & E CL1 HCP (1100m):

Striking chestnut 1. Vedder looks ready to go winning a recent trial from the front after a dominant maiden win as a hot favourite second-up in the spring.

Dangers: Warwick Farm-trained 3. Broken Arrows returned in winning style this track under 59kg when well backed, and down in weight for tougher grade; while 4YO 5. Temple Run let favourite backers down first-up at Wyong when just edged out, but drops in weight and will stalk the speed from the inside draw.

How to play it: Vedder to win.

Race 3 BM 64 HCP (1600m):

Tricky tactical race, but Randwick 6YO 2. Dependable was backed from $12.00 into $7.50 resuming at Newcastle over 1350m before working home nicely from well off the speed. By Pendragon, and desperate for more ground up to the mile, and does boast a sound second-up record.

Dangers: Tougher task here for 3YO Newcastle filly 7. Moana Marie, but she has plenty of ability and won two of her last three. Will get an economic trail midfield. Randwick gelding 1. Chocolatier comes out of that same CL1 at Newcastle resuming where he held his ground in an even effort, and with only career win over the mile, is naturally suited by the distance rise. Like the last couple of runs from Rosehill mare 4. Classic Princess finding the line nicely from off the speed and is hard fit now; while another Rosehill mare 5. Snapchat Girl is ready to produce third-up, and another advantaged getting out to the mile.

How to play it: Moana Marie to win and Dependable each way.

Race 4 MAIDEN PLATE (1600m):

Randwick filly 10. Molten Rock won't have to improve much from a sound debut effort at Newcastle to win. Draws wide, but with plenty of previous trial fitness behind her, and leading rider to steer, she's the stand-out value!

Dangers: Rosehill-trained 3. Brilliant Mind should be ready to peak third-up at this trip after resuming in the strong Magic Millions at the Gold Coast, and then rock solid up in trip at Canterbury. Will run out the mile from the inside gate and is the clear threat. Another Rosehill-based gelding 4. Dream Fields resumed with a fair effort behind the smart Kolding at Canterbury, but drop in class and rise in trip are more to his liking. Rosehill filly 9. Keiai Tsubaki improved third run back attacking the line at Goulburn, and should eat up the longer trip here.

How to play it: Molten Rock to win and quinella 3 and 10.

Race 5 MAIDEN PLATE (1100m):

It's D-Day for talented Godolphin gelding 3. Pindus who surely breaks his maiden at ninth start. Placed five times so far, and two runs back was close up in a stronger maiden here over 1200m, and then led but weakened over same trip last start. Drawn well and slight drop back in trip a bonus. Best ridden with a sit!

Dangers: Big watch on resuming Warwick Farm filly 10. Now Or Never who is still unplaced, but trialled well and expected to be much better this prep. Warwick Farm mare 5. Lady Of Kos resumes and will be doing her best work late, but best two runs of career so far have been early in the prep. Rosehill 3YO 4. Prince George has trialled well ahead of his return.

How to play it: Pindus to win.

Pindus runs third at Gosford on January 30

Race 6 F & M CL1 HCP (1100m):

Local mare 3. Queen Ablaze will be hard to stop here. Won first-up from the front this track in August as a hot favourite, and tuned up for return with a strong closing trial at Wyong and top rider stays on.

Dangers: Promising filly 4. Wimlah raced in black-type company at only second run back in the winter, and well prepared for return with strong work at the trials. Randwick filly 5. Eveleigh improved big time fourth-up to charge home and win her maiden at Goulburn, and while this is tougher, she's hard fit and down in weight; while Warwick Farm-based 7. Oh My Mimi will improve second-up and is clear best of the rest.

How to play it: Queen Ablaze to win and quinella 3 and 4.

Race 7 MAIDEN HCP (1200m):

Another race that revolves around first starters and strong trial form. Very keen on well-bred 4YO debutant entire 1. Regal Stage who looked terrific winning a Randwick trial when forced to cover and then concede early ground before rounding them up in style. Parks just off the speed from a middle gate.

Dangers: The only 2YO in the field, 11. Manhattan Marvel failed on debut as a short-priced favourite at Canberra, but gets in well at the weights from the inside draw.

How to play it: Regal Stage to win.

Race 8 BM 64 HCP (1200m):

This looks ideal for promising 4YO Wyong mare 4. Mighty Marmalade third-up. Has hit the line hard both runs this prep, and peaks now over slightly longer journey. Watch for a blistering last 300m!

Dangers: Warwick Farm 4YO 2. Spencer has had three runs back from a spell in slightly stronger grade, and should be around the finish from the good barrier.

How to play it: Mighty Marmalade to win.

Mighty Marmalade runs second at Wyong on January 27
