Gary Harley's Wyong Preview (Sunday)

By Gary Harley

English jockey Tom Marquand has an attractive book of rides in his final appearance at Wyong on Sunday. The popular hoop has enjoyed a successful stint in Australia and he will shortly return home.

Marquand has seven mounts on the eight race program and his best ride is arguably the Victorian three year old Deelbraka in race 3 the United Tools Maiden Plate (1600m). Deelbraka has been runner up in three of his four starts and he will appreciate the step up to 1600 metres. The gelding's two New South Wales runs have been at Kembla where he ran on into second place both times.

Superbowl Sunday (race 1), Poseidon Star (race 2) and Partners (race 7) are other good rides for the visitor.

RACE 1: Temple Run has not raced for 34 weeks but he had outstanding form in May last year. He was narrowly beaten on debut at Nowra after racing wide all the way. His last run on May 30 at Warwick Farm was the eye catcher when beaten just over a length by the smart Seasons. He trialled nicely at Warwick Farm recently.

Marmeli and Superbowl Sunday are on debut after impressive trials.

Selections: 1 TEMPLE RUN 2 MARMELI 4 SUPERBOWL SUNDAY

RACE 2: Poseidon Star finished strongly after a tough run when a close fourth at Gosford recently. He steps up from 1100 to 1350 metres and he will be fitter this time.

Cadence wasn’t far away first up at Cessnock and she has a chance. Bollente disappointed first up but is better than that.

Selections: 3 POSEIDON 5 CADENCE 1 BOLLENTE.

RACE 3: Victorian 3 year old Deelbraka runner up in his only two starts this prep at Kembla is the one to beat. He was a short priced favourite both starts and he attacked the line giving the indication he needs this trip.

Equiseta has been placed on country tracks in her past two starts and she is on her home track. Nicoya is racing well enough to be competitive.

Selections: 4 DEELBRAKA 7 EQUISETA 10 NICOYA.

RACE 4: Modernity is on debut after bolting in with two recent trials at Warwick Farm and Rosehill. She is very fast and will need to be from the wide draw but Schofield coming to ride her is a good lead.

Ivira is trialling well and she wasn’t far away in two starts a year ago. Swizeler was placed in her only start 14 months ago and she won a recent trial.

Selections: 5 MODERNITY 4 IVIRA 1 SWIZELER

RACE 5: Fluidity produced a career best performance to win a 2100 metre Gosford Maiden by five lengths on January 11. She finished fourth in a strong Maiden in her only start on this track.

Triple Hero was narrowly beaten at Gosford last start and he led all the way to win at Goulburn two starts back. Bon Equus will appreciate this trip.

Selections: FLUIDITY 5 TRIPLE HERO 1 BON EQUUS.

RACE 6: Tough Larry is a dual acceptor but he is well placed in this race. He won on debut on the Kensington track in September before striking a heavy track when fourth at Randwick in October. He won a recent Rosehill trial and he has drawn well.

Kedah has been freshened up and is a fast filly with a chance. Miss Fisher has speed to burn and may take some catching.

Selections: 3 TOUGH LARRY 5 KEDAH 7 MISS FISHER

RACE 7: Rectitude resumes after an impressive Wyong win in August before he went for a spell. Mighty Marmalade’s first up run on this track was an eye catcher when she stormed home for a close second on January 5.

Selections: 3 RECTITUDE 4 MIGHTY MARMALADE 6 MISS EINSTEIN

RACE 8: Nindamos was very impressive on debut when he came from last at the 400 to win running away on this track on December 12. He made up good ground when fourth on the Kensington track three weeks ago. He is crying out for the ‘mile’.

Chalk has been racing well on city tracks and Salsa Man was narrowly beaten first up.
