Gary Harley's Late Mail For Wyong (Thursday)

By Gary Harley

Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott will saddle up three well fancied runners at the Wyong meeting on Thursday.

The stable had great success during the Sydney Autumn Carnival and at acceptance time for the Wyong meeting the training partnership had trained 117 winners Australia wide in the current season.

The first of the Waterhouse – Bott runners is the Snitzel filly Shuwaamekh in the opening event the 1350 metre WYONGRACECLUB.COM.AU 3-Year-Old Maiden Handicap.

The filly was heavily backed last start at Newcastle ten days ago when narrowly beaten second up. She has a soft draw and will be fitter and the longer trip is ideal.

The second of the stable's runners is the colt Burdekin in the 1100 metre 2-Year-Old Maiden Plate. Burdekin was only beaten 2 ¼ lengths by Marboosha in a strong Warwick Farm race in his only race start on April 29. He has natural speed and draws nicely.

Fiery Red resumes after a seven month spell in the Class 1 De Bortoli Wines Handicap (1200m) and a repeat of his previous form would see him go close here.

He was a Warwick Farm winner in August and he is trialling well. He has drawn well and Lee Magorrian will ride all three of the stablemates.

RACE 1 WYONGRACECLUB.COM.AU 3 YO MAIDEN 1350M
Shuwaamekh was beaten a length after being heavily backed at Newcastle on May 2. She loomed to win in the straight but her run peaked however was strong to the line. She trialled brilliantly prior to the run.
Daksha has been runner up in his past two starts and he missed the start when narrowly beaten on this track last start.

Delicately was stiff last start.

SELECTIONS: 10 SHUWAAMEKH, 1 DAKSHA, 6 DELICATELY.

RACE 2 TAB.COM.AU MAIDEN 1100M
Ballistic Lover was very good when beaten three quarters of a length in a strong race at Randwick on May 2. She got back worse than midfield and chased hard late. The filly had no luck when three wide no cover in her only other start at Kembla in December.

Great News has trialled well since her two placings in November.

Glock is racing well and was just beaten two starts back at this track.

SELECTIONS: 6 BALLISTIC LOVER, 4 GREAT NEWS, 7 GLOCK.

RACE 3 COCA-COLA 2YO MAIDEN PLATE 1100M
Burdekin tried to lead all the way when beaten 2 ¼ lengths in a strong race at Warwick Farm on April 29. He has good trial form leading into the race and he has a lovely draw here.

Anders is a speedy colt and he was runner up to last Saturday’s Randwick winner Peltzer at Kembla last start.

Finally Realise missed the start when beaten 2.8 lengths over 900 at Newcastle three weeks ago and he could sneak into a place.

SELECTIONS: 13 BURDEKIN, 1 ANDERS, 15 FINALLY REALISE.

RACE 4 CARLTON & UNITED BREWERIES MAIDEN PLATE 2100M
Crown Affair is knocking on the door and gets the blinkers on. He led until late when narrowly beaten at Hawkesbury last start. He was beaten .3 of a length at Gosford two starts back.

Whiskey Jack is a leader and two starts back was beaten 0.3 of a length on this track.

Gunaluva will appreciate the longer trip.

SELECTION: 1 CROWN AFFAIR, 6 WHISKEY JACK, 3 GUNALUVA.

RACE 5 SKY RACING CLASS 1 1600M
Stockman is a promising stayer and the 1600 is ideal. He failed at Hawkesbury last start but two runs back he came from last to win running away at Goulburn. He was narrowly beaten at Wyong in October over a shorter course.

Significance bolted in here two starts back then failed at Warwick Farm. Allowed to lead on his own he will be hard to run down.

Benfica Maid is racing well and has a chance.

SELECTIONS: 3 STOCKMAN, 1 SIGNIFICANCE, 7 BENFICA MAID.

RACE 6 DE BORTOLI WINES CLASS 1 1200M
Fiery Red has been gelded and he resumes after a seven month spell. He won a Warwick Farm Maiden in August and he had very good two year old form on metropolitan tracks.

Shepherd Of Fire led all way at Newcastle last start and he has drawn well.

Head Spins was narrowly beaten at Gosford last start and will run well.

SELECTIONS: 1 FIERY RED, 2 SHEPHERD OF FIRE, 6 HEAD SPINS.

RACE 7 WYONG’S NEXT RACE DAY JUNE 4 B/M 64 1350M
Reiby’s Regent was unlucky when beaten 0.3 of a length at Newcastle on May 2. He was again unlucky when beaten 1.8 lengths at Randwick two starts back after coming from near last and held up at the 150.

Ondo Pasa flashed home from last when runner up here on April 30. She has won twice at Wyong.

Salsa Man has won two with seven placings on this track and he will run on.

SELECTIONS: 6 REIBY’S REGENT, 5 ONDO PASA, 4 SALSA MAN.
