Gary Harley's Late Mail For Wyong (Thursday)

By Gary Harley

Irish apprentice Tom Sherry has a very good book of rides at Wyong on Thursday and he has bright prospects of landing a double for his boss Mark Newnham.

The latter will saddle up Mrs Maisel in the Carlton & United Breweries Maiden Handicap (1100 metres) and Key To Glory in the 1100 metre Coca-Cola Benchmark 64 Handicap with Sherry aboard both.

Mrs Maisel is a two-year-old filly taking on older horses but she has been runner up in two of her three starts and she has a lovely barrier.

Key to Glory won a Hawkesbury Class 1 in November and he resumes here after a Randwick open trial win on April 9.

RACE 1 HMA GROUP METRO & PROV. MAIDEN 1600m

Highbury was runner up on this track albeit beaten a long way on April 16. That was his first run since November and the winner is pretty classy. He will be fitter and he has placed twice in three starts at Wyong.

The First Ring was run down late at Canberra last start and he is the likely leader from barrier one.

Carlin Trend has trialled okay.

SELECTIONS: 3 HIGHBURY, 2 THE FIRST RING, 1 CARLIN TREND.

RACE 2 WYONGRACECLUB.COM.AU MAIDEN PLATE 1350m

Lando Bay was placed in a strong field first up at Kembla. He was narrowly beaten in his only Wyong start in October after racing outside the leader. He has drawn well and Sherry claims 2 kilograms.

Daksha was run down late at Goulburn on April 16 and he is an on pacer.

Great Tye had excuses when favourite on debut at Newcastle on April 11.

SELECTIONS: 3 LANDO BAY, 1 DAKSHA, 2 GREAT TYE,

RACE 3 CARLTON & UNITED BREWERIES MAIDEN 1100m

Mrs Maisel has been placed in two of her three starts and she ran on well when beaten half a length in the Muswellbrook Miss Finland first up on April 13. The filly should race in the
box seat from this barrier and the longer trip is a positive.

Giselle Anne has been placed in four starts and she finished fourth in a classy Wyong Maiden two weeks ago.

Avostar is trialling well and can go forward.

SELECTIONS: 5 MRS MAISEL, 3 GISELLE ANNE, 2 AVOSTAR.

RACE 4 TAB.COM.AU CLASS 1 1600m

Stockman was very impressive coming from last to win a Goulburn Maiden on April 16. He is bred to stay and the step up from 1300 to 1600 metres won’t be a problem. He was beaten a head in his only Wyong start in October.

Reinvest bolted in on debut at Newcastle a couple of weeks back and he will run a strong ‘mile’.

Cottenham is a promising stayer which will appreciate the ‘mile’ first up.

SELECTIONS: 3 STOCKMAN, 2 REINVEST, 7 COTTENHAM.

RACE 5 SKY RACING CLASS 2 HANDICAP 1350m

Maui Girl is a former South Australian mare which hasn’t raced for 77 weeks. She is trialling well and is starting for the first time after joining Jason Coyle’s stable. She was beaten 0.3 of a length in a Listed Race at Morphetville in October 2018.

Cubix bolted in at Ballina last start and Hildalgo had no luck last start.

SELECTIONS: 4 MAUI GIRL, 6 CUBIX, 2 HILDALGO.

RACE 6 COCA-COLA BENCHMARDK 64 HANDICAPSD 1100m

Ballistica had good form last prep including a Warwick Farm win and a close second at Randwick. She is a winner second up and has drawn nicely.

Key To Glory won a recent trial and she races well fresh.

Heimal was narrowly beaten first up at Gosford and he never got on the track last start.

SELECTIONS: 3 BALLISTICA, 2 KEY TO GLORY, 1 HEIMAL.

RACE 7 WYONG’S NEXT RACE DAY THURSDAY MAY 14 BENCHMARK 64 1300m

Holy Reign was an easy trial winner at Newcastle recently and he races well fresh. He normally goes forward and will have the benefit of Tom Sherry’s 2 kilogram claim. He is the class runner after a good prep last winter.

Anubis wasn’t far away first up and he will be fitter.

Salsa Man has a good record on this track and he has been placed in his past three starts.

SELECTIONS: 1 HOLY REIGN, 2 ANUBIS, 3 SALSA MAN.
