Gary Harley's Late Mail For Wyong (Sunday)

By Gary Harley

The Wyong Race Club’s annual Australia Day race meeting will be held on Sunday and James Cummings’ crack three year old Acumen will be the shortest priced favourite on the seven race card after posting record time in a 1100 metre Gosford Maiden win by 4.7 lengths on January 10.

The son of Exceed And Excel led all the way at Gosford and he should have too much class for his rivals in the 1100 metre The Alloom Beauty Aussie Day Dash Class 1 Handicap.

Trainers Ciaron Maher and David Eustace should continue their run of success when Classic Gaming steps out in the final event the 101.3’s Top Koala-T Aussie Race Day Benchmark 64 handicap (1600m).

The gelding blitzed a Maiden field first up on the Beaumont track on Boxing Day and he wasn’t far away at Kembla two weeks ago.

RACE 1: YOU’LL LOVE IT! BY THE HALEKULANI BOWLING CLUB MAIDEN PLATE 1100m

Shadow Colour has been runner up in three of his four starts. He led in a recent Gosford Maiden only to be run down in the closing stages. He is a speed horse and he will be difficult to run down on this track.

Pure Faith won a trial by a big space at Newcastle recently and she is quick. Princess Siri is trialling well.
SELECTIONS: 3 SHADOW COLOUR, 8 PURE FAITH, 7 PRINCESS SIRI.

RACE 2: THE JETT’S FITNESSS @ SAN REMO AUSSIE DAY HORSEPLAY MAIDEN PLATE 1600m

Lady Legend has been runner up in her past two starts at Wyong. She was stiff last start at Wyong on January 5 when she came from last to go down by a neck. She was hampered 100 metres out and the longer trip is in her favour.

Space Is Deep finished on Lady Legend’s heels on this track on January 5 and she will also appreciate the 1600. Sebourg was slow away when narrowly beaten at Kembla last start.
SELECTIONS: 8 LADY LEGEND, 12 SPACE IS DEEP, 6 SEBOURG.

RACE 3: CAPITAL ONE REAL ESTATES AUSSIE, AUSSIE, AUSSIE…RUN…RUN…RUN MAIDEN HANDICAP 1350m

Capri Of Tuffy is knocking on the door after three placings from four starts this prep. The filly was beaten a head at Randwick by Rari on Boxing Day. She was placed at Canterbury three runs back. She races on the speed and her apprentice claims 2 kilograms.

Charles Seven has been close up in placings at Warwick Farm and Newcastle in his only two starts this prep. Azoustic will appreciate the longer trip after two creditable runs this prep.
SELECTIONS: 5 CAPRI OF TUFFY, 1 CHARLES SEVEN, 2 AZOUSTIC.

RACE 4: THE ALLOOM BEAUTY AUSSIE DAY DASH CLASS 1 HANDICAP 1100m

Godolphin 3 year old Acumen resumed from a spell with a record breaking win at Gosford on January 10. He cruised along in front and raced away to win by 4 ½ lengths. This is a stronger race but Acumen is very smart and should win again.

Circus had no luck last start from a wide barrier and she was impressive in winning on debut at Newcastle. Mandirigma wasn’t far away first up on this track recently and he will be fitter and has the rails barrier.
SELECTIONS: 1 ACUMEN, 7 CIRCUS, 5 MANDIRIGMA.

RACE 5: THE EVENT CINEMAS GOLD CLASS GALLOP BENCHMARK 64 2100m

Merlinite is a promising stayer which bolted in at Kembla last start. She went forward to race outside the leader at the 900 after being three wide no cover at the 1400. She raced away in the straight and she is favourably drawn and has a 2 kilogram claim.

Elleofadeel had good Queensland form before finishing fourth at Canterbury last start. Judicator has been placed in both starts this prep and this trip is more suitable.
SELECTIONS: 3 MERLINITE, 4 ELLEOFADEEL, 12 JUDICATOR.

RACE 6: FREDDY’S FISHING.COM.AU BENCHMARK 64 1000m

Turnstyle resumes here on the back of two trials. She has only had two starts in the winter for a close second at Kembla and an all the way win at Gosford. She won a recent Warwick Farm trial and she has drawn soft.

Special Date was placed behind Turnstyle at Gosford in July and she resumed to win a Muswellbrook Maiden by 6 lengths three weeks ago. My Fire Phoenix won on debut at Canterbury in January last year and chased home Dawn Passage and Castelvecchio in two subsequent starts before a spell. She is trialling well.
SELECTIONS: 10 TURNSTYLE, 11 SPECIAL DATE, 8 MY FIRE PHOENIX.

RACE 8: 101.3’S TOP KOALA-T AUSSIE RACE DAY BENCHMARK 64 1600m

Classic Gaming was most impressive first up on the Beaumont track on Boxing Day. He stormed home from midfield to win running away. Last start he ran on okay at Kembla but did not have a lot of room in the straight.

Parry Sound just missed at Kembla first up and this trip is more suitable. Hammond Lane was narrowly beaten at Gosford last start after winning the Mudgee Cup.
SELECTIONS: 5 CLASSIC GAMING, 3 PARRY SOUND, 2 HAMMOND LANE.
