Al Snip Breakthrough On The Cards At Wyong (Tues)

By Gary Harley

John O’Shea’s ultra-consistent filly Al Snip ($2.25 favourite on TAB) is set to break through for her second win when she contests the 1350m TAB.COM.AU Class 1 Handicap at Wyong on Tuesday. From six starts Al Snip has a win and five placings and she was placed first-up behind the flying Spaceboy on this track on June 18.

Last start the filly was doing her best work late when beaten a half-head by the speedy Hyannis Port at Newcastle in a strong race on July 7. She has a soft draw and Tommy Berry will be aboard for the first time. The longer trip is also a positive.

RACE 1 (DE BORTOLI WINES 3YO MAIDEN HANDICAP, 1600M): Zounate ($1.80 fav) will benefit from Louise Day's 2kg claim and he is knocking on the door. The 3yo has been placed in his past four starts and has very good wet track form. He races on the pace and the shorter trip is ideal. Mooy ($2.90) ground away when narrowly beaten at Hawkesbury last start and Swahili Mai ($7.50) has an each-way chance.
SELECTIONS: 1 ZOUNATE, 3 MOOY, 8 SWAHILI MAI

RACE 2 (COCA-COLA MAIDEN PLATE, 1350M): Lake Marion ($3 fav) has been racing in good form at Newcastle and is well-weighted with the claim. She was runner-up in a strong maiden at Newcastle on July 4 and she had no luck there two starts back. The mare won’t be far off the pace and she was placed in her only start on this track. Emthree ($3.30) has had three runs this prep and last start at Newcastle he over-raced and was checked off heels at the 1200m. Man And Superman ($4.80) is a leader with a chance.
SELECTIONS: 8 LAKE MARION, 2 EMTHREE, 4 MAN AND SUPERMAN

RACE 3 (CARLTON DRY PROVINCIAL & COUNTRY MAIDEN, 1200M): Montana Thunder ($3.60 fav) wasn’t far away at Newcastle last start and he was placed in his previous two starts. Strike Missile ($14) has trialled okay. Mon Amore ($6.50) is better for two runs to date and has the in-form Robbie Dolan aboard.
SELECTIONS: 1 MONTANA THUNDER, 13 STRIKE MISSILE, 10 MON AMORE

RACE 4 (JIM BEAM 2YO MAIDEN, 1000M): Wild Wind ($7) after two nice Rosehill trial wins in June debuted on the Kensington Track on a heavy track on July 1. He raced on the speed and tired to be beaten five lengths. The colt will be ridden by Tommy Berry who has ridden him in all his barrier trials but wasn’t aboard on raceday. Wild Wind has to overcome a wide draw. Yangarra Rose ($3.70) was well backed when narrowly beaten on debut at Newcastle on July 7 and she has drawn well. Jet Propulsion ($3.60 fav) is well-bred, has trialled nicely and has come in for strong support.
SELECTIONS: 4 WILD WIND, 6 YANGARRA ROSE, 2 JET PROPULSION

RACE 5 (TAB.COM.AU CLASS 1 HANDICAP, 1350M): Al Snip ($2.25 fav) has never been out of a place in six starts and she placed behind the flying Spaceboy on this track first-up recently. She was beaten a half-head in a strong race at Newcastle last start on July 7 and will appreciate the longer trip. Patrina ($6.50) has a good record and she was narrowly beaten in her only start on this track in January. You Too ($8) is first-up after a win and a Kensington Track placing in her first prep.
SELECTIONS: 1 AL SNIP, 4 PATRINA, 5 YOU TOO

RACE 6 (GREAT NORTHERN ON TAP CLASS 2 HANDICAP, 1000M): Forget Special Date's ($4.20) performance first-up at Hawkesbury recently when she did not handle the wet track. She was held up behind the speed first-up but the filly is at her best when allowed to run. She is very quick. Bring Glory ($4 fav) resumes after two wins from three starts in his first prep and Xiaoli’s Ying ($4.80) has a good country record.
SELECTIONS: 2 SPECIAL DATE, 3 BRING GLORY, 5 XIAOLI’S YING

RACE 7 (OFF THE TRACK NSW B/M 64, 1100M): Badia ($5 equal fav) is first-up after a recent quiet trial. Before she went to the paddock this filly ran on strong to win a Warwick Farm maiden before an unlucky close-up second at Gosford. The filly normally races in the second half of the field but is very strong. Wander ($7) was impressive in winning first-up at Grafton recently. Super Longlea ($5 eq fav) resumes and she won two from five last prep.
SELECTIONS: 3 BADIA, 1 WANDER, 7 SUPER LONGLEA

RACE 8 (WYONG’S NEXT RACEDAY JULY 31 B/M 64, 1600M): Brutality ($4.20 fav) is racing well with an easy Canterbury win two starts back and a Kembla placing last start. He has never been far away in all four starts this prep and he has a nice barrier. Holy Reign ($8) has his foot on the till and has a claim on his home track. Duchess Adele ($4.60) has winning country form.
SELECTIONS: 3 BRUTALITY, 1 HOLY REIGN, 10 DUCHESS ADELE
