Collett Booked For Well-Backed Consenza (Wyong, Thursday)

By Gary Harley

The Hawkes stable has booked Jason Collett to partner their Zoustar filly Consenza ($6 into $4.40 favourite on TAB) which resumes in the Nestle Professional And We Care Connect Maiden Plate at Wyong on Thursday.  The three-year-old had four starts in her first preparation in the spring and her only placing was at Hawkesbury in November.

Collett was aboard Consenza in her recent trial at Rosehill on April 28 and she was very impressive. The filly travelled three wide with no cover midfield and then raced clear in the straight under no pressure. She has drawn barrier seven in the big field but only needs luck to be hard to beat.

Punters can look to an improved performance from the Gerald Ryan/Sterling Alexiou-trained colt Snatchreilly ($5) in the Coca Cola Europacific Partners and Hospitality Supplies Express 2YO Maiden Plate (1100m).

A son of Ryan's former Group 1 star Trapeze Artist, the colt was backed into $1.65 in a Newcastle Maiden on April 22. He was in second place into the straight before taking the lead inside the 400m mark. Snatchreilly tired late to be beaten 2.83 lengths.

Gosford trained Rocstar Boy ($3.30 fav) will carry 60½kg in the Arcade Trader and Central Coast Kids In Need Benchmark 64 Handicap (1350 metres), however, he has a great chance. His first-up placing at Newcastle recently was an eye-catcher coming from near last to finish third behind a smart one in Union Army.

RACE 1, ACCOLADE WINES PROVINCIAL 3YO MAIDEN HANDICAP, 1350m: Epicus ($3.40 fav) had had two starts this preparation and is ready to win. Second-up at Newcastle recently he was run down late to be beaten 0.62 of a length. He has drawn well and Koby Jennings had the mount. Jo Jo Sun ($4) is racing well and will be hard to beat. Always In ($3.70) has a place chance.
SELECTIONS: 4 EPICUS, 2 JO JO SUN, 3 ALWAYS IN

RACE 2, AUSTBROKERS AND BISHOP COLLINS MAIDEN PLATE, 1350m: Little Cointreau ($2.20 fav) has had three starts for two placings. First-up at Kembla recently on a heavy track he finished strongly to go down by 1.6 lengths. He has a soft draw and two lengths is the furthest he has been beaten in his three starts. Commando Jack ($4) trialled okay and Believe The Hype ($6) can run first four.
SELECTIONS: 5 LITTLE COINTREAU, 3 COMMANDO JACK, 1 BELIEVE THE HYPE

RACE 3, COCA COLA EUROPACIFIC PARTNERS AND HOSPITALITY SUPPLIES EXPRESS 2YO MAIDEN PLATE, 1100m: Snatchreilly ($5) is a very good trialler and can atone for a disappointing first-up run at Newcastle. The colt was $1.65 first-up at Newcastle and he had his chance before being run down. However, he is talented and can win. Frenemy ($3.50 fav) is on debut after two nice trials. Ramius ($7) led all the way in a recent trial.
SELECTIONS: 4 SNATCHREILLY, 11 FRENEMY, 3 RAMIUS

RACE 4, NESTLE PROFESSIONAL AND WE CARE CONNECT MAIDEN PLATE, 1100m: Consenza ($4.40 fav) resumes after a lovely trial and Jason Collett has the mount after he trialled the filly. She raced well without winning in her first prep and with any luck she should win. Kapunda ($4.60) has joined the Maher Eustace stable and has won two recent trials. Mr Kennedy ($4.80) has had a change of stable and his form last prep is good.
SELECTIONS: 11 CONSENZA, 17 KAPUNDA, 2 MR KENNEDY

RACE 5, HARVEY NORMAN COMMERCIAL AND CENTRAL COAST VOLUNTEER RESCUE CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE, 2100m: Sonic The Hedgehog ($6.50) is knocking on the door after two nice runs this prep. First-up after 11 months he was beaten by a nose at Newcastle and last start he was only 0.37 lengths from the winner at Gosford. Aunt Roberta ($7) is a promising stayer and has a good chance while The Englishman ($3.80 fav) won well last start.
SELECTIONS: 2 SONIC THE HEDGEHOG, 11 AUNT ROBERTA, 6 THE ENGLISHMAN

RACE 6, ARCADE TRADER AND CENTRAL COAST KIDS IN NEED BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP, 1350m: Rocstar Boy ($3.30 fav) doesn’t win very often but he always puts in. First-up he stormed home at Newcastle. He came from a mile back to finish third 1½ lengths from the winner. He has a big weight but he will hit the line. The Halo ($6) isn’t well drawn but he can win this race. Budhwar ($5) is speedy and honest.
SELECTIONS: 1 ROCSTAR BOY, 6 THE HALO, 3 BUDHWAR

RACE 7, WYONG ROOS FOUNDATION BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP, 1100m: Chief Conductor ($2.50 fav) is in career best form and he bolted in at Hawkesbury last start. He was narrowly beaten in his two previous starts. Promising apprentice Jett Stanley has the mount. Wondereach ($5) has two wins and a second from three starts. Restrictions ($5) won well at Gosford last time.
SELECTIONS: 1 CHIEF CONDUCTOR, 3 WONDERREACH, 4 RESTRICTIONS

RACE 8, CARLTON & UNITED BREWERIES AND REGNIS REFRIGERATION BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP, 1600m: Reginald ($6) is in good form with placings at Wyong and Newcastle. He is a bold front runner if he is allowed to stride and Josh Parr rides. Flexing ($5 fav) can improve if he gets cover and Martini Crusader ($19) is a good roughie.
SELECTIONS: 10 REGINALD, 2 FLEXING, 4 MARTINI CRUSADER
