Zorocat Is Primed For Wyong Breakthrough (Thursday)

By Gary Harley

Speedy Wyong filly Zorocat ($3.80 favourite on TAB) will appreciate a drop in class when she steps out for the first time on her home track on Thursday.

The three-year-old trained by Damien Lane will contest the 1200m HMA Flow & Industrial Class 1 Handicap.

The daughter of Toronado has won one from seven with four placings.

Twelve months ago she was beaten two lengths by The Bopper in the Tamworth Hygain Romantic Dream.

The filly has raced twice this preparation and was narrowly beaten both times at Newcastle.

On March 30, Zorocat was run down and beaten a head by the smart I Say Hello over 1200m at Newcastle.

Last start the filly over-raced during her assignment at Newcastle three weeks ago and was beaten three-quarters of a length. Jason Collett has the mount for the first time.

Imported mare Loolwah ($11) can atone for a luckless first-up run at Newcastle on May 10 when she runs in the HMA Wear Solutions Benchmark 64 Handicap (1350m).

Undefeated in two trials before the first-up run, Loolwah had no luck after racing keenly early on and ran into traffic at a vital stage.

RACE 1, HMA GROUP MAIDEN HANDICAP, 1200M: Leave Me Be ($5) raced in restricted room in her first start for the Waller stable when fourth at Gosford on April 1. She would have finished much closer and this field is not as strong. Explosive Truth ($1.55 fav) has been placed in four of seven starts and the rails barrier is a positive. Berrima Star ($61) is on debut and has a place chance.
SELECTIONS: 8 LEAVE ME BEm 2 EXPLOSIVE TRUTHm 1 BERRIMA STAR

RACE 2, HMA INSTRUMENTATION MAIDEN PLATE, 1350M: Above Reserve ($3.20 fav) is selected in a very open race. She resumed after a nine-month break when down the course in a much stronger race than this at Gosford on April 1. First Fleet ($3.80) has speed and finished fourth here two starts back. Fattore Stella ($9.50) can fill a place.
SELECTIONS: 6 ABOVE RESERVE, 3 FIRST FLEET, 7 FATTORE STELLA

RACE 3, HMA POWER GENERATION MAIDEN PLATE, 2100M: La Sagra ($2.40) has been placed in six of 10 starts. She was narrowly beaten on this track over this trip in November. Her recent form is good enough. Red Hot Zone ($6.50) was narrowly beaten at Newcastle last start. Bedford Square ($1.95 fav) has been placed in all four starts this prep and twice over this trip.
SELECTIONS: 9 LA SAGRA, 4 RED HOT ZONE, 7 BEDFORD SQUARE

RACE 4, HMA MATERIALS HANDLING CLASS 1 HANDICAP, 1600M: Lovetheinvasion ($1.75 fav) has had two starts for a 4½ length win at Tuncurry in December and a close second at Muswellbrook on April 9. The filly was heavily backed at Muswellbrook and was run down late. Squanto ($5) was placed in a strong race at Newcastle first-up on April 10 while Spanish Fighter ($3.10) has a chance.
SELECTIONS: 5 LOVETHEINVASION, 2 SQUANTO, 1 SPANISH FIGHTER

RACE 5, HMA FLOW & INDUSTRIAL CLASS 1, 1200M: Zorocat ($3.80 fav) is a fast filly and deserves a change of luck. She was run down late in both starts this prep over the tough 1200m course at Newcastle. The shorter straight is in her favour and Jason Collett rides. Mix ($4.40) is enjoying a good preparation and has drawn well. Luminoso ($6) is in good form with a last-start Newcastle win.
SELECTIONS: 8 ZOROCAT, 6 MIX, 3 LUMINOSO

RACE 6, HMA WEAR SOLUTIONS BENCHMARK 64, 1350M: Imported mare Loolwah ($11) had no luck in her only NSW start at Newcastle on April 10. She had won two trials leading up to the race but she struck trouble in the straight. Saquon ($2.30 fav) bolted in on this track last start and will probably lead. Smart Success' ($9) first-up run at Newcastle was an eye-catcher.
SELECTIONS: 4 LOOLWAH, 2 SAQUON, 14 SMART SUCCESS

RACE 7, HMA GEOTECHNICAL BENCHMARK 64, 1000M: Tango Stepz ($5.50) was stiff when a close third at Newcastle on April 15. She was a close third in a Randwick Highway in February and was narrowly beaten at Gosford in early February. She has speed and has drawn nicely. Stoltz ($5.50) resumes and is unbeaten on this track. Ready To Roam ($6.50) has a chance.
SELECTIONS: 8 TANGO STEPZ, 4 STOLZ, 6 READY TO ROAM
