'Swimmer' Star Cherie Will Relish Wet Wyong Track (Tuesday)

By Gary Harley

Three-year-old filly Star Cherie ($4 on TAB), narrowly beaten in her past two starts, is set to break through in the 1000m Class 1 Handicap at Tuesday's Wyong race meeting.

Star Cherie won on debut at Gosford in March and she had a two-month break before an unplaced run on the Kensington Track.

On June 10 she was a narrow second in a strong Class 1 at Gosford. Last start at Hawkesbury the filly was beaten a head. She is bred to swim and she has raced on wet tracks in every start this preparation.

RACE 1, GREAT NORTHERN MAIDEN PLATE, 1350M: Bullet Hero ($2.90) has failed in two starts for the Snowdens and he resumes here in the stable of Mark Newnham. He has looked good in both recent trials on the synthetic track and he has drawn well and stable apprentice Tom Sherry has the mount. Crazy Wolf's ($2.60 favourite) only three starts have been in country Victoria and he was only two lengths away in a Ballarat maiden last start. Don’t Recall ($4.60) has trialled okay.
SELECTIONS: 1 BULLET HERO, 3 CRAZY WOLF, 7 DON’T RECALL

RACE 2, SKY RACING CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE, 2100M: Kermajack ($4.20) came from last to win a 1600m Newcastle maiden two starts back on June 26. He failed at Newcastle on a very heavy track last start and will appreciate the longer trip. Mr Bond ($2.90 fav) won a 1600m Nowra maiden on a wet track two starts back and he ran on okay over the Kembla mile last start. Pensera ($3.30) has a place chance.
SELECTIONS: 4 KERMAJACK, 2 MR BOND, 7 PENSERA

RACE 3, CANADIAN CLUB MAIDEN HANDICAP, 1600M: Trojan Hero ($4) was a fast-finishing second at Newcastle last start after being held up in the straight. He had to come off heels halfway down the straight and stormed home when clear with 250m to run. Trojan Hero steps up to 1600m and the rails barrier is a positive. Mouvement ($3.80) worked home nicely when third first-up at Newcastle recently. Go Gazza ($2.80 fav) was a fast-finishing second at Kembla last start.
SELECTIONS: 3 TROJAN HERO, 4 MOUVEMENT, 1 GO GAZZA

RACE 4, CARLTON DRY PROVINCIAL COUNTRY MAIDEN, 1200M: Miss Checkoni ($2.15 fav) has been runner-up in two of her three starts. She flashed home on this track on debut when beaten under a length. Last start at Newcastle she was again less than a length from the winner. All three starts have been on wet tracks and she has a positive barrier. Pretty Enuff ($5.50) is on debut after a lovely trial and Cloud Hopper ($4) also trialled well.
SELECTIONS: 1 MISS CHECKONI, 5 PRETTY ENUFF, 3 CLOUD HOPPER

RACE 5, TAB.COM.AU 2YO MAIDEN HANDICAP, 1000M: Hauraki Gulf ($5.50) has been close up in his only two starts at Moonee Valley and Morphettville. In both starts he has raced on the speed. He has had two recent trials on the Central Coast where he looked good in a Gosford win on July 5. He has the rails barrier and Jason Collett. The Godolphin filly The Globe ($5.50) resumes after an impressive trial. Typhoon Taavi ($12) is on debut after a classy trial.
SELECTIONS: 3 HAURAKI GULF, 10 THE GLOBE, 15 TYPHOON TAAVI

RACE 6, DE BORTOLI WINES CLASS 1 HANDICAP, 1600M: Sidereal ($3.80) was placed in his first Australian start at Newcastle recently and will be fitter. Bob ($2.40 fav) loves a wet track and he has been placed in three of his last four starts. Zudin ($4) makes appeal and should be getting close to his peak, while Speedzone ($9) is nearing a win after two runs back.
SELECTIONS: 1 SIDEREAL, 3 BOB, 2 ZUDIN

RACE 7, COCA-COLA BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP, 1300M: Patagonian ($6) has been racing well without winning and this is a winnable race. He is a backmarker but he has run on well when placed in his past three starts. He has good wet track form. Eye See Things ($5) is a model of consistency with placings in her past five starts. Born To Play ($4.40 fav) is a former South Australian who finished second first-up for a new trainer at Newcastle last start.
SELECTIONS: 5 PATAGONIAN, 9 EYE SEE THINGS, 10 BORN TO PLAY

RACE 8, WYONG’S NEXT MEETING JULY 29 CLASS 1 HCP, 1000M: Star Cherie ($4) has been narrowly beaten in her past two starts on wet tracks. She has only had four starts for a win and two placings, has speed and 1000m is her trip. Never Second ($3.70 fav) has trialled well and The Mistral ($17) is promising.
SELECTIONS: 3 STAR CHERIE, 5 NEVER SECOND, 6 THE MISTRAL
