Trainer Luke Price reckons the penny has dropped with promising filly Monte Supreme and believes the well-bred mare can kick off her preparation on a high note at Kembla Grange on Saturday.
Price and his father Rob are the reigning champion stable on their home track and could be in for another big day with several chances across the eight-race card.
Monte Supreme is the one of the stable's best chances in the Rusty Filmer F&M Benchmark 64 Handicap (1200m).
The I Am Invincible mare was tested in the Group 3 Hawkesbury Guineas in her most recent start but struggled to find her best.
Price believes Monte Supreme ($7.50 on TAB) is ready to fire in her return.
“Monte Supreme is a really nice filly,” Price said.
“She had a trial a while ago and it looks ordinary on paper but she had no headgear on at the trials and she's a different horse with that on.
“I think she is weighted to her best in that sort of race in what’s a strong field for a 64 but I am sure she is up to them as a four-year-old mare.
“As a mare, I think we might see her at her best this preparation.”
A much-deserved victory is the goal for stablemate Invade And Conquer ($2.40 TAB favourite).
The son of Invader has frustratingly finished among the placings in eight of his 11 starts and gets his chance to get a win on the board in the Paul Collareda Memorial Midway Maiden (1400m).
He was only narrowly beaten at the same venue last time.
“Invade And Conquer gave Embassy a proper run for its money the other day,” Price said. “The blinkers went on and he ran extremely well, a career best.
“He steps out to 1400m, is weighted to his best but can certainly win. I am really happy with the horse and hopefully he can break the drought on Saturday.”
Extreme Freedom ($13) races in the same colours as Invade And Conquer in the Billie & Sadie Benchmark 64 Handicap (1600m). He will carry 61.5kg with Robbie Downey aboard.
“Extreme Freedom has to carry good weight but he can win. That’s his pet distance.
"I thought Gai's horse (Jon Bon) was good the other day but has his fair share of weight as well. We probably rode our horse too close the other day and he got cluttered up on the fence.
"He doesn’t race best like that being a big free striding horse. If we can get him rolling from the 600m, I think we will see a better horse.”
Price is hoping for a form turnaround from Noble Attack ($41) in the Dynelec Australia Cg&e Benchmark Handicap (1200m): “He’s got to lift but he always runs well at Kembla Grange,” he added.
