Newcastle Winners - Tips For Sunday 28th November

By Brad Gray

Tips and race by race preview by Brad Gray for Newcastle.

Race 1 - 1:10PM KRIS LEES 3YO & UP MAIDEN HANDICAP (900 METRES)

3. Snowdrop is now onto her third trainer after just seven career starts but like the way she trialled up for Mark Schmetzer. Has the speed to use the low draw and has placed in two previous cracks at the Newcastle 900m.

Dangers: Wary of debutant 2. Perfect Point given how well he trialled himself. The early money trail is there too. 1. Chameleon Choice has some deep two-year-old form lines which sees him well found.

How to play it: Snowdrop WIN ($2.70 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: SPLIT

Race 2 - 1:45PM TAB.COM.AU 2YO MAIDEN PLATE (900 METRES)

2. Athletica looked all speed in her brilliant Randwick trial win, albeit the synthetic trials can be hard to judge. Will be forced to work hard from the wide draw to cross too. There are a few little queries but still profiles as the horse to beat.

Dangers: 7. Last Bid Liam will be better for the experience in the Max Lees Classic where he looked the winner half way down the straight before being run down. Expect him to be prominent again.

How to play it: Athletic WIN ($2.40 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: SPLIT

Race 3 - 2:20PM PAUL PERRY CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1850 METRES)

5. Vyner had been building steadily towards his maiden win and it all came together last start at Wyong. Looks suited out to this journey now and has handled wet tracks in the past. Deserved favourite.

Dangers: 4. Pelennium is still a maiden but a very lightly-raced one at that and there was nothing between him and 3. Papadum when they met at Kembla in early November. Pelennium looks the likely leader here too. Don’t dismiss him.

How to play it: Vyner WIN ($2.70 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: SPLIT

Race 4 - 2:55PM CHARLESTOWN SQUARE MAIDEN HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

3. Aramis worked to the line strongly first up at Canterbury behind Sacrimony in a leader dominated race. Had some trouble angling clear too. Drops back to provincial company, gets onto a bigger track and draws well.

Dangers: Expected more from 10. Sabalenka at Canterbury last start given how she closed off at Hawkesbury on debut. Didn’t close off with the same gusto. Maybe she is looking for this trip.

How to play it: Aramis WIN ($4 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: SPLIT

Race 5 - 3:35PM GARY HARLEY HANDICAP - BM 64 HCAP (2300 METRES)

5. Deniliquin overcame being speared off the track early in the race last start at Gosford to produce a big finale to get up on the line. Gives the impression he’ll relish getting out to 2300m and has handled heavy ground in the past.

Dangers: 3. Terwilliker isn’t right at the top of his game at the moment but he is a very fit stayer dropping back from city class. 1. Freedom Square and 6. Outlook look the other two hopes.

How to play it: Deniliquin WIN ($5 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: ODDS

Race 6 - 4:18PM REWARD HOSPITALITY PROV & CRTY MAIDEN PLATE (1300 METRES)

1. Foxwell was posted deep for much of the trip on debut at Warren over 1000m yet kept closing to run an eye-catching third. Tackles provincial company now but we’re getting double figure odds to find out if he’ll measure up. Out to 1300m looks to suit.

Dangers: 13. Short Shorts trialled well at Randwick and bares plenty of respect on debut. As for a blowout at huge odds, 7. Slick Heels closed off late last start when the blinkers went on. Has no early speed but will be thundering home.

How to play it: Foxwell WIN ($13 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: ODDS

Race 7 - 5:02PM ROBERT THOMPSON - BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

7. Members Only clearly had an issue at the backend of last preparation having shown so much at his first two starts. He failed to beat a runner home in his two runs thereafter and Nathan Doyle tipped him out. At the odds, happy to take the punt that he can find his best again.

Dangers: 4. Major Murphy is holding his form well at the moment and loves wet ground. The wide draw is the only thing against him. 9. Lonely Power is very much untapped winning two from two thus far.

How to play it: Members Only WIN ($11 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: SPLIT

Race 8 - 5:36PM SUMMER PROVINCIAL SERIES - HEAT 3 - CLASS 5 PLATE (1500 METRES)

If 7. Saquon can put himself on top of the speed without having to do too much work from the wide draw, he’s clearly the horse to beat. Comes off a narrow win in Midway company last start and he loves wet tracks.

Dangers: 13. Grande Rumore didn’t look comfortable at all on a wet track at Warwick Farm two starts ago which is the knock but otherwise, it’s hard to knock her claims, especially at the weight scale. 8. Cream Rises is in the mix too.

How to play it: Saquon WIN ($4 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: ODDS
