Neil Evans's Tips For Gosford (Wednesday)

By Neil Evans

The track is rated a Soft 7 with the rail in the True position under overcast skies.

Race 1 (2:35pm) GOSFORD IT PROV & CTRY MAIDEN PLATE (1100m)

We start with a thin maiden at set weights four days after the track played towards the leaders. Improving three-year-old 2. Mr Burgundy ($1.60 favourite on TAB) draws the inside and will be tough to beat. Stuck on well debuting at Hawkesbury and the second horse from that race bolted in at this track on Saturday. Was scratched from Newcastle on Tuesday to run here.

Dangers: Seven weeks since a sound first-up run at Port, 3. Pad Thai ($7) returns as a gelding, with blinkers added, and looms as the quinella runner from a nice draw, while The Factor (USA) filly 10. Twisted Nikkas ($5) debuts in blinkers off two forward trials. Huge gap to rest.

How to play it: Mr Burgundy to win and box trifecta 2,3,10
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 2 (3:10pm) INDUSTREE GROUP MAIDEN HANDICAP (1200m)

Improving Deep Field three-year-old 5. Assiduity ($4) can do enough to break through second-up from the inside draw with blinkers going on. Made good late ground on debut behind a promising winner who was then edged out in a blanket Class 1 finish this track on Saturday. Also preferred here to Newcastle on Tuesday.

Dangers: Godolphin filly 8. Ultra ($2.90 fav) hasn't had much luck in three provincial runs this prep and was beaten under a length here 15 days ago when heavily backed. Exceed And Excel colt 1. Wizard Of Oz ($5.50) is bred to get through the ground and shapes over the odds. Was just behind the placegetters in a handy maiden at Kembla and the winner has since scored again in BM 64 grade. Big watch on Redoute's Choice colt 4. Rejoiced ($8.50) who debuts off a couple of steady trials.

How to play it: Assiduity each-way
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 3 (3:45pm) CENTRAL COAST GRANITE 3 & 4YO BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1200m)

Progressive four-year-old 2. Conscript ($3.30) was dominant from barrier-to-box in a provincial BM 64 third-up and draws to repeat the dose here.

Dangers: Improving 3. Marnix ($3.90) stuck on well second-up in heavy ground carrying the same weight and drew to get a charmed run right behind the speed. Provincial three-year-old 8. Keikoku ($3.20 fav) made a mockery of his long price on debut, charging home from well back to beat a good country maiden field. Gap to the rest headed by resuming 1. General Dubai ($9) who has had two trials.

How to play it: Conscript to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 4 (4:20pm) NARARA PLUMBING SERVICES 3 & 4YO BM 68 HANDICAP (1000m)

Small field over the short course. Promising metro filly 3. Rubinocchi ($2.40 fav) can strike first-up behind two very progressive trials. Already a fresh winner in heavy going and also at this track in winter before being spelled. The one to beat!

Dangers: Canberra mare 1. Proud Mia ($2.80) has won four from 11 over this distance including two of her last three at Federal and country BM 83 level. Has the pace to utilise her low draw and in-form apprentice takes 2kg off. Capitalist filly and last start provincial winner 6. Girl Mania ($3.90) is the clear best of the rest.

How to play it: Rubinocchi to win
Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 5 (4:20pm) PIRTEK CENTRAL COAST F & M BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP (1100m)

Another small but competitive sprint. Like Pride Of Dubai filly 4. Forzanini ($2.70 fav) resuming. Only win from five starts came on a soft rating and she's been right to the fore in two open class trials, showing a smart cruising speed and running good closing sectionals.

Dangers: Lightly raced and resuming mare 5. Twitch ($4) chased home Forzanini in her first trial before keeping quiet in the more recent on synthetic. Improving mare 2. Zoumist ($7.50) can peak third-up.

How to play it: Forzanini to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 6 (5:30pm) SNEDDON BROS C, G & E BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP (1100m)

The boys' edition wraps up the card and this stacks up nicely for promising Flying Artie three-year-old 9. Almighty Rising ($2.10 fav) who resumes from a handy draw off an eye-catching trial. Led all the way fresh through soft ground in metro company last time and has always been a youngster the stable has had an opinion of.

Dangers: Big watch on progressive four-year-old 2. Resilient Star ($7.50) who returns behind two steady trials and has already built a 33% winning strike rate from nine starts. Include in exotics 3. Key Largo ($4.40) first-up off two forward trials and 7. Schiller Bay ($5) who comes in with two dominant wins at country level from his last three.

How to play it: Almighty Rising to win
Odds and Evens: Split
