Track Soft 5 and rail out 4m:
Race 1 MAIDEN PLATE (2100m): |
---|
The maiden stayers get us underway on a surface that could start nearer a Good 4. Having been in and around the money in four runs this prep, Pierro mare 8. Piempurr is primed to break through. Generally rolls forward to either lead or sit right behind, and this is the thinnest race she's tackled this prep.
Dangers: A drier surface and drop in distance will greatly help provincial five-year-old 3. Mr Luke who is on the six day back-up. Dropped out in much tougher metro grade on heavy ground. Drawn inside, metro mare 7. Lady Goodfellow is also better suited here after dropping out in that same provincial race as the top selection 12 days ago. Gap to the rest.
How to play it: Piempurr to win and quinella 3 and 8
Odds and Evens: Split
Race 2 MAIDEN HCP (1350m): |
---|
Home track four-year-old 1. Dresden is ready to peak third-up after a good fighting place here 19 days ago. Bred to get further, and should settle in a nice trail one off the fence.
Dangers: Rival four-year-old 2. I Am Geronimo is the natural threat after being run down late in that same maiden as a well fancied favorite. Gets a 1kg weight turnaround on the top selection, but has the task again of working to the front from a wider gate. Expect sharp second-up improvement from 5. Nano Star on firmer going.
How to play it: Dresden to win
Odds and Evens: Split
Race 3 CLASS 1 HCP (1350m): |

Another tactical small field, although lightly raced and promising four-year-old 1. Think About It only has to find some sort of cover from the wider barrier to win. Swept home for a dominant debut win at Kembla under the same weight, and will be racing in metro company very soon.
Dangers: Resuming mare 2. Flying Witness has been given two trials, and draws well on suitably firmer going; while 3. Ilzoomya is the clear best of the rest, third-up and down in weight.
How to play it: Think About It to win; quinella 1 and 2; in order trifecta 1,2,3
Odds and Evens: Split
Race 4 CLASS 1 HCP (1600m): |

Small but handy quality field over the mile. Another one by dual Cox Plate winner So You Think, five-year-old 2. Believe So can strike third-up dropping in grade. Led for a long way in a similar race here before fading late in much tougher metro grade on a heavy track, and jumping from a better gate and on a much drier surface are key factors his way.
Dangers: Last start provincial maiden winner 1. The Replicant is a natural threat stepping up to the next level. Will roll across and sit on speed, and hasn't missed a place in four runs this prep. Keep safe 3. Brynner who is hard fit fifth-up and gets nice weight relief; while 5. Mr Eighty Eight dug in hard to win a country maiden third-up but tackling some smarter ones here.
How to play it: Believe So to win
Odds and Evens: Split
Race 5 COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES MAIDEN PLATE (1100m): |
---|
Promising four-year-old Maurice stallion 2. Narito arrives for his debut for the leading trainer/jockey combination behind a recent easy trial, and with plenty of wraps. Has been given a stack of time to mature, and watch for a powerful final 300m.
Dangers: Got plenty of time for improving four-year-old 3. Sacred Field who returns off a nine month spell via two very progressive trials. Gets some key gear changes, and the trial jockey stays on for the real thing. Gap to the rest headed by provincial colt 8. Soobooco who is over the odds second-up; while 1. Givara resumes off two trials and can run into a place.
How to play it: Narito to win and quinella 2 and 3
Odds and Evens: Split
Race 6 FILLIES & MARES MAIDEN PLATE (1100m): |
---|
Now a more open girls' edition. Snitzel three-year-old 4. Crystalane starts her career from a handy trailing draw, and has been given plenty of time at the trials. Was strong through the line in two hit-outs late last month, and both trainer and jockey have a good strike rate when they venture to the provincials with a new one. Over the odds.
Dangers: Returning three-year old 7. Miss Faberge has plenty of ability and held her own in three consecutive runs in Group company as a two-year-old. Won the second of two recent trials, and will look to settle back and finish hard. Included in exotics four-year-old 11. Edna who draws to get a soft run at her fifth start; while watching the market on beautifully-bred three-year-old 9. Perpignan who did plenty wrong first-up in a strong maiden here, but finally gets back on firmer footing.
How to play it: Crystalane each way and quinella 4 and 7
Odds and Evens: Split
Race 7 BENCHMARK 68 HCP (1100m): |

Good sprint with plenty of depth, and may prove to be a solid formline heading towards spring. Like the value of underrated seven-year-old 1. Belladeel who can peak second-up. Missed by a whisker hitting the line hard first-up in a BM 64 here, and while he's weighted to his best in a big field, a much stronger heavyweight rider takes over. At his best on firmer ground.
Dangers: Plenty of them headed by tough mare 5. Bullinachinashop who tracked the speed before thumping a weaker country field last start, and is right at her peak for this tougher test fifth-up. Honest mare 8. Very Sharp can also run home hard second-up; while 4. Da Nang Star first-up off two smart trial wins; and 9. Miss Kojiki third-up behind an easy country BM 58 win; both go through the exotics.
How to play it: Belladeel each way
Odds and Evens: Odds
Race 8 CLASS 1 HCP (1000m): |

We close the meeting over the short course, and in a fairly open sprint this shapes nicely for smart Hellbent colt 3. Fire And Ice getting back on a firmer surface third-up. Destroyed his rivals fresh here four weeks back before failing to run on in heavy ground against Sat metro two-year-old company. Top city jockey takes over.
Dangers: Slipping back 100m in distance fourth-up, consistent four-year-old 1. Dijon is a logical threat, drawn to utilise his early speed. Must respect promising colt and dominant country debut winner 9. Custo but threatens to go around under the odds from this draw; while 6. Have Mercy resuming off a steady trial; and well bred colt 8. Insurrection who resumes from the inside gate via two trials wins; are both capable of running into a place.
How to play it: Fire And Ice to win
Odds and Evens: Odds
BEST BETS:
R2 1. DRESDEN
R8 3. FIRE AND ICE
