Neil Evans' Tips For Kembla Grange (Tuesday)

By Neil Evans

Track Heavy 9 and rail out 5m from 1100m to WP & 3m the remainder.

Race 1 MAIDEN PLATE (1000m):

Lightly raced three-year-old 1. Boomsong resumes in a suitable set weight maiden behind a solid soft track trial. Best bred wet tracker in the race, and blinkers come off.

Dangers: Capitalist three-year-old 6. Wategos is a big market watch on debut off some eye-catching runs at the trials. Gap to the rest.

How to play it: Boomsong to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 2 2YO MAIDEN PLATE (1000m):

Same trip for the juveniles, and most are on debut. One of them is 9. Tsarina Sophia, a striking filly by Russian Revolution and out of a Kiwi mare, who can hit the ground running. Was right with the leading group in a recent synthetic trial, and has terrific wet track credentials on both sides.

Dangers: I Am Invincible colt 2. Vinnie's Spirit is a clear threat returning since spring for only her second start. Has looked very forward winning both lead-up trials, and gets similar conditions here from the inside draw. Watch the market on Capitalist filly 3. Euros on debut behind two forward trials.

How to play it: Tsarina Sophia to win and quinella 2 and 9
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 3 CLASS 1 HCP (1200m):

Tough and wide race with plenty of chances. Got a stack of time for progressive home track three-year-old 8. Espirito who can make it two straight at just his fourth start. Sailed away from the front to destroy maiden opposition here only 10 days ago, and boasts good tactical speed in any ground being by Bel Esprit.

Dangers: Metro colt 3. Mission Value is over the odds third-up after a strong provincial win in heavy ground three weeks back. Consistent four-year-old 5. Sabino defied a betting drift to win his maiden two runs ago before being run down in a handy country BM 64; and well-bred three-year-old 7. Daichi also has enough scope for improvement second-up, with a leading metro hoop back on board.

How to play it: Espirito to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 4 BENCHMARK 68 HCP (1600m):

Real tactical battle over the mile in these conditions will suit tough metro mare 5. Sprout Wings who shapes well over the odds back in distance off a 10 week freshen-up. Was right in the money through last prep, including a dominant provincial BM 64 win, and has been kept up to the mark with a recent soft track trial.

Dangers: Consistent local six-year-old 3. Josephus is right in the mix having scraped home to win a similar contest here 17 days ago. Progressive filly 4. Chilko Lake has taken a real liking to the wet tracks this prep, finishing best to claim her maiden at Warwick Farm, and looks well in at the weights after the claim. Included in exotics home track nine-year-old 8. Tenorino who draws okay and prefers it wet.

How to play it: Sprout Wings each way
Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 5 FILLIES & MARES MAIDEN HCP (1400m):

Improving filly 8. Poetic Drama has been right behind the placegetters in her last three, and the form out of those races reads well for this in a race weakened by scratchings.

Dangers: So You Think filly 2. Denarau is on debut after doing plenty of work at the trials; and home tracker 5. Poseidon Jewel can peak third-up.

How to play it: Poetic Drama to win
Odds and Evens: Evens

Race 6 COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES BENCHMARK 64 HCP (1400m):

The boys bring us home, and progressive metro three-year-old 4. Strombus is suitably placed to win third-up. Rushed home from the back in a similar grade at Newcastle, and even better advantaged back on a wet track. Should get the right pattern settling off the speed and surging home late.

Dangers: Talented three-year-old 3. Never Cry also made up plenty of late ground in that provincial race 12 days ago, and is right at home on rain-affected ground. Keep safe 5. Patton who hit the line in similar conditions here first-up.

How to play it: Strombus to win
Odds and Evens: Split

BEST BETS:
R1 1. BOOMSONG
R6 4. STROMBUS

BEST VALUE:
R4 5. SPROUT WINGS
