Neil Evans' Tips For Hawkesbury (Tuesday)

By Neil Evans

Good 4 and rail True

Race 1 BENCHMARK 64 HCP (2100m):

Lightly raced local five-year-old 1. Mr Bond rounded them up in very easy fashion at Wyong and careered away to win first try over this trip. Carres only 1kg more, and can repeat the dose.

Dangers: 2. So Sneaky stuck on bravely at Kembla third-up and five weeks between runs; while 4. Justitia draws well coming back in trip and grade fifth-up. Keep safe 7. De Valera who has a poor strike rate but finished hard last start over further; and trained on the track 3. War Cabinet will find this easier, dropping back from a BM 72 Midway.

How to play it: Mr Bond to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 2 BENCHMARK 68 HCP (1100m):

Progressive mare 2. Star Cherie was impressive, bursting through late to win a handy CL1 at Wyong fourth-up, and this isn't much harder.

Dangers: 1. Gidgee Guy didn't shirk the task finishing late behind a dominant front-running winner 13 days ago, and finally gets a shred of weight relief; while 3. I Am Capitan is still defying his nine years, and is well placed with a 3kg claim and coming back from a deeper Highway.

How to play it: Star Cherie to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 3 MAIDEN PLATE (1600m):

Tough race with plenty of chances, but keen on lightly raced five-year-old 4. Fine Ruby second-up. Worked home nicely resuming at the provincials off a nine month spell, and the bigger track is the key.

Dangers: 7. Dundeel Star can roll forward from an ideal barrier second-up, and was scratched from Goulburn on Monday to tackle this. Must include 6. Diorissima second-up over more ground, with blinkers added; while 1. Bullet Hero goes in exotics second-up.

How to play it: Fine Ruby each way. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 4 CLASS 1 HCP (1600m):

Promising mare 8. Princess Amira was ultra gallant first-up at Scone, carting 60kg from a wide barrier and only collared in the last few strides. Draws much better here and firming track is also a plus.

Dangers: Local four-year-old 1. Carlisle Bay is as tough as old boots, defying a betting drift to drive late and finally crack the maiden at Wyong; while local colt 5. Enjolras is on the next line at his third start.

How to play it: Princess Amira to win and quinella 1 and 8. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 5 4YO & UP MAIDEN PLATE (1300m):

Testing maiden with some first starters on show. Expecting enough improvement from four-year-old mare 9. Fayerra to break through second-up after more than a year off the scene. Drops 2.5kg from a soft draw, and raced in Group 1 company way back as a two-year-old.

Dangers: 3. King Of Hearts hit the line hard third-up at Kembla, and top hoop sticks, but will likely be forced a long way back from the outside gate; 1. Da Hang Star has been very ordinary in three runs after trialling big, but gets out over more ground; while 5. Sabino can improve at his second start with a more experienced jockey taking over. Include debutant Deep Field mare 8. Deep Reef in wider exotics.

How to play it: Fayerra to win. Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 6 CLASS 1 HCP (1300m):

Lightly raced four-year-old 1. Armatree just needs cover to be the one to beat after a sound closing effort first-up on the Kensington track in a deeper race.

Dangers: Local mare 5. Sunborn finished okay in that same race despite being easy in betting, and that was five weeks between runs; while big watch on 2. Socrates resuming as a gelding off two quiet trials, although will probably need the run.

How to play it: Armatree to win. Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 7 METRO & PROV MAIDEN HCP (1100m):

Open one to finish, but liked the provincial run working home from progressive three-year-old 10. Russian Standard first-up for five months. Carries a kilo less over a little more ground at his third start, and is headed for bigger targets.

Dangers: Debutant colt and smart trial winner 7. Journalism looks ready to go off some progressive work at the trials, but has a tricky draw to overcome.

How to play it: Russian Standard to win. Odds and Evens: Split.

BEST BETS:
R2 2. STAR CHERIE
R6 1. ARMATREE

BEST VALUE:
R1 1. MR BOND
