Neil Evans' Tips For Beaumont Newcastle (Tuesday)

By Neil Evans

Track likely Soft 5 and rail out 6m from 800m to 400m and 3m the remainder

Race 1 FILLIES & MARES BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1150m):

Testing yet a moderate opener for the girls from three-year-olds up to one eight-year-old. Expecting sharp improvement second-up from provincial filly 2. Bahahaha from a better draw with blinkers added and five weeks between runs. Dropped out first-up after sitting wide with no cover before undergoing a vet's examination.

Dangers: Provincial mare 8. Magic Talent comes back a long way in class after campaigning well in BM 72 Midway company. Home track mare 6. Girls Get Paid is deep into the prep since landing her maiden third-up, and will appreciate getting over more ground. Include resuming metro filly 4. Eve 'N' Ruby who has had two trials; while 1. Island Grange will find this easier.

How to play it: Bahahaha each way
Odds and Evens: Evens

Race 2 CLASS 1 HCP (1150m):

Very keen on Randwick filly 1. Chimes first-up since mid August. Been fitted with two forward trials up to 1080m, and was a dominant debut winner on the course proper here nearly a year ago before progressing to Group 3 company at her third start.

Dangers: Metro mare 2. Princess Of Meydan hit the line late second-up behind a smart sprinter when supported in the market, and normally peaks around this stage of the prep. Watch the betting on country three-year-old 4. Overextend who resumes without publicly trialling, and was preferred here to the next race at BM 58 level; while provincial filly 5. Audette can run into the finish after surging home to win on debut at big odds.

How to play it: Chimes to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 3 COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1150m):

Warwick Farm seven-year-old 3. Timperley was a little disappointing last start working home, although still less than three lengths from the winner in a race with more depth. Should be right at his peak now well into this prep, and relishes rain-affected ground.

Dangers: Honest five-year-old 1. Warphil likes to drift back and work home. Has to carry the weight again, although may need it wetter to find his best. Improving local 5. Top Hoffa up in class, but down in weight; and six-year-old 4. Dubai Harbour who draws to get a soft run; can both run into a place.

How to play it: Timperley to win
Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 4 COUNTRY MAIDEN PLATE (1350m):

Tough maiden at set weights, and most of these could be waiting a while to break through. Improving Scone filly 10. Almorah is well placed here after the claim, and coming back 150m in distance. Was taken back in a deeper race at Muswellbrook before working home okay, and 2kg claimer booked is a further boost.

Dangers: After four solid runs back, hard fit filly 12. Parties Galore can break through. Has been sitting on or near the lead and holding his own to the line, but this is weaker, and the drying track is a plus. Another improver at just his second start 4. Second Half gets blinkers added. Still trying to break through at his 18th attempt, five-year-old 1. Dunlee returns off a six month break for a new country stable without the blinkers. Likely to need the run, but his fresh form is sound enough so watch for him late. Include 11. Miss Niccolini third-up in a weaker race with blinkers on; and 2. Eptiwins in wider exotics.

How to play it: Almorah to win and box exacta 4,10,12
Odds and Evens: Evens

Race 5 BENCHMARK 66 HCP (1350m):

Tough provincial four-year-old 5. McNair was impressive second-up at Port, sitting midfield and driving over the top under 61kg. Steps up in grade and distance here, but has winning form up to the mile, and right at home on rain affected ground.

Dangers: Progressive home tracker 2. Poseidon Ruler was very well supported before tracking the speed and finishing best for a dominant win third-up. Meeting some better ones here, but loves soft ground. Classy local four-year-old 4. Five Crowns resumes off two improving trials for the top provincial stable. Won two straight to start his career last spring, and is bred to thrive on soft tracks. Gap to the rest headed by 6. Visceral who resumes behind two quiet trials; and 9. The Mistral second-up from the inside draw, especially if the surface continues drying out.

How to play it: McNair to win and trifecta 2,4,5/2,4,5,6,9/2,4,5,6,9
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 6 CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (2100m):

Always tricky at this level over a longer journey, and there are plenty of hopes. Like progressive filly 12. Velvet Lady who is by dual Group 1 classic winner Tarzino. Has charged home late in two runs back over the mile, and carries 1.5kg less here with a senior rider back on.

Dangers: Home track and ex-UK four-year-old 1. Bill Peyto is bred to get over plenty of ground, and will relish this trip after two fair runs back at the mile. Keeping safe, improving four-year-old 4. Members Only who continues to find the line from well back, and draws to get cover. Another local, three-year-old 6. Geisel steps up sharply into unknown distance territory after four runs back, and will find this much easier than a Provincial C'ship Qualifier. Watch the betting on metro filly 10. Diamond Falls who has done very little in three runs back, but blinkers can switch her on.

How to play it: Velvet Lady each way
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 7 MAIDEN HCP (1150m):

Provincial three-year-old 1. Oxford Vision hit the line strong on debut despite drifting in betting, and this looks an easier assignment despite carrying 60kg from a wide gate.

Dangers: Home track mare 6. Decadent Tale was never out of a place in five runs through her first prep, and nearly always hard in the market. She is more comfortable around a Soft 5 rating, rather than genuine wet, and was steady through the line in a recent trial. The market will tell a big story with metro stablemate debutantes coming out of the same recent trial. Starspangledbanner three-year-old 4. Pacific Force finished on from the back, and has been taken along slowly at the trials since early last year; while Counterattack three-year-old 5. Parrying, who wears blinkers, raced forward but struggled late under pressure. Include debutant provincial filly 10. Whirling Dervish in exotics.

How to play it: Oxford Vision to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 8 CLASS HCP (1350m):

Like progressive Tamworth three-year-old 3. Aarkus back in grade second-up over a bit more ground. Came from a long way back and covering ground when resuming in heavy going, and can sit closer here, and produce a dominant final 400m. The one to beat.

Dangers: Home track four-year-old 1. First Peoples will be hard to hold out after beating all bar the winner in two runs back, although the handicapper hasn't missed him up sharply to 61kg. Include 2. Jutland who is honest and hard fit; while metro mare 5. Blue Jager has drawn the fence and will be finishing hard if she finds clear air.

How to play it: Aarkus to win
Odds and Evens: Odds

BEST BETS:
R3 3. TIMPERLEY
R8 3. AARKUS

BEST VALUE:
R1 2. BAHAHAA
