Neasham Stable Prepares To Plunder Gosford On Thursday

By Neil Evans

Leading metropolitan trainer Annabel Neasham is living by the old adage that when you're on a good thing, stick to it!

Ahead of Thursday's open and feature Gosford meeting, the Warwick Farm-based trainer has hit the ground running with her latest batch of young horses.

At Wednesday's Kensington meeting, she not only trained the opening two-year-old winner Megastar Heart over 1400m, but then promptly brought home the trifecta in the second race over the same trip with a trio of promising three-year-old fillies.

And she's out to continue that juvenile domination with a speedy colt making his debut at Gosford in the Bull Throttle At Teg - 8 June 2yo Maiden over 1100m for the two-year-olds.

Superhero, a son of prolific sprint sire Deep Field and quoted at $10 in TAB betting, has always been well thought of by the stable, and starts behind two solid metropolitan trials.

That's not to say she isn't having fun with the older imported gallopers after four-year-old mare Junebug announced her arrival Down Under with an effortless win as a hot favourite at Muswellbrook on Monday.

Now she is confident, ex-UK and beautifully bred four-year-old Hiawatha ($5.50) can break through for his first Australian win third-up in the Railway Hotel Class 1 & Maiden Plate over 2100m on the Central Coast.

A son of the great stayer Camelot, Hiawatha endured an inauspicious start to life in Australia when he was pulled up in very heavy ground at Kembla six weeks ago.

Granted a clearance by stewards to recommence his career, Hiawatha was beaten narrowly in a similar Gosford race late last month, and connections are confident, he's now filly acclimatised and ready to peak

On a bumper nine-race program to make up for the recently postponed backlog after the NSW Big Wet, Hiawatha is third favourite behind favourites Earth Dance ($3.80) and Waverley ($3.90).
