Minervini & Bullock To Again Put On A Show At Wyong (Thursday)

By Gary Harley

Newcastle-based Mark Minervini and Aaron Bullock will combine with three realistic chances at the Wyong race meeting on Thursday. Minervini, closing in on 60 winners since moving from South Australia four years back, will saddle up Star Impact (race 5-$4.60 on TAB), Media Man (race 7-$6) and Fire and Ice (race 8-$4 favourite) and Bullock has the mount on all three.

The states leading jockey in the current season with 145½ winners. Bullock rides Star Impact in the 1350m Fillies and Mares Benchmark 64 Handicap.  He was aboard when the mare was runner-up behind the smart Overriding at Newcastle on May 20. Star Impact has drawn well and is fitter after two runs this preparation.

Media Man has recaptured his best form with two easy wins at Taree and Muswellbrook with Bullock the rider in both wins. He will contest the Wyong Cup Carnival Benchmark 64 Handicap (1350m). The five-year-old came from midfield to win easily at Taree last start.

Fire and Ice has his foot on the till after two solid placings at Wyong and Newcastle recently. He will take his place in the Clubs NSW Central Coast Men’s Health Charity Race Day June 15 Midway Benchmark 64 (1100m).

Melbourne Cup-winning trainers Ciaron Maher and David Eustace will saddle up the lightly raced 4yo Windshadow ($3.80 fav), the likely favourite in the Wyong Cup Carnival Sunday August 27 & Friday September 1 Benchmark 64 Handicap (1350m). Promising apprentice Jett Stanley has the mount and the gelding has barrier one.

Windshadow won a Canterbury maiden in February and first-up at Kembla recently he had no luck when trapped wide no cover and finished second. Tocomah ($5.50) has plenty in his favour when he runs in the 1100m Clubs NSW Central Coast Men’s Health Race Day June 15. He has barrier one and in three starts at Wyong the gelding has a win and two placings.

RACE 1, THE IRIS FOUNDATION-WRC CHARITY PARTNER MAIDEN PLATE, 1000m: Mafia ($4) has been placed in his only two starts earlier this year and he was narrowly beaten by a future star in a recent Randwick trial. The colt is very quick and has a nice barrier. Stablemate Satin and Silk ($1.75 fav) was only beaten three lengths in the Gimcrack and she has had two recent trials. Orlabent ($5.50) was runner-up at the recent Scone Cup Carnival.
SELECTIONS: 7 MAFIA, 8 SATIN AND SILK, 1 ORLABENT

RACE 2, TICKETS ON SALE-WYONG’S NEXT COCKTAIL PARTY-SATURDAY JULY 15 4YO & UP MAIDEN PLATE, 1350m: Notabadone ($2.80 fav) ran on well second-up at Nowra recently when a close second. He has a positive barrier and the longer trip is ideal. Suva May ($5) has consistent country form. Little Red Power ($9.50) has drawn well and should be considered.
SELECTIONS: 4 SIR SMITTY, 3 NOTABADONE, 9 SUVA MAY

RACE 3, WYONG ROOS FOUNDATION-WRC CHARITY PARTNER MAIDEN HANDICAP, 1600m: Dishin ‘N’ Dancin ($3.30 fav) has placed in three of six starts and he has been placed in his past two at Wyong and Gosford. He tried to lead all the way when beaten half a length at Wyong last start. Royal Promise ($4.40) is racing well enough to figure in the placings and Foxford Babe ($7) has a place chance.
SELECTIONS: DISHIN ‘N’ DANCIN, 8 ROYAL PROMISE, 7 FOXFORD BABE

RACE 4, NORTHLAKES TOUKLEY ROTARY-WRC CHARITY PARTNER CLASS 1 & MAIDEN, 2100m: Viadelamore ($2.90 fav) put the writing on the wall with a fast finishing second at Gosford last start. He has an important couple of gear changes and may not get as far back from the barrier. Stylebender ($10) has been placed twice at Canberra this prep and he is a strong finisher. Ra Ra Grandpa ($8) is sure to run well.
SELECTIONS: 4 VIADELAMORE, 3 STYLEBENDER, 10 RA RA GRANDPA

RACE 5, WRC IS A PROUD SUPPORTER OF POLICE LEGACY BM63 HCP, 1350m: Star Impact ($4.60) has never raced better with an eye-catching second to Overriding second-up at Newcastle recently. Her Newcastle form earlier this year was good enough to win this race. Leandra ($4.20) was impressive in her Hawkesbury maiden win and she was a Canterbury winner in December. Golden Gate ($2.80 fav) has a good record and Beirut Miss ($5) won her only start on this track.
SELECTIONS: 3 STAR IMPACT, 4 LEANDRA, 2 GOLDEN GATE

RACE 6, WRC PROUDLY SUPPORTING THE PROSTATE CANCER FOUNDATION PROV MDN HCP, 1100m: Misty Dreams ($3.80) is yet to win in 15 starts but her last run was a beauty. She flashed home from near last to get within 0.63 of a length of the winner at Wyong first-up. Highway Patrol ($2.70) led all the way to win a recent trial and Luai ($8) also led throughout in a trial.
SELECTIONS: 12 MISTY DREAMS, 1 HIGHWAY PATROL, 2 LUAI

RACE 7, WYONG CUP CANIVAL-SUNDAY AUGUST 27 & FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 1 BM64 HANDICAP, 1350m: Windshadow ($3.80 fav) is pretty smart and he has plenty in his favour with the rails barrier and the gun apprentice claiming. He was a Canterbury maiden winner in February and he had no luck when beaten a length first-up at Kembla. Oakfield Waratah ($3.90) led most of the way first-up at Wyong on May 11 and Media Man ($6) is chasing a hat-trick.
SELECTIONS: 1 WINDSHADOW, 2 OAKFIELD WARATAH, 5 MEDIA MAN
