Master Trainer Ryan With Four Good Wyong Chances

By Gary Harley

Gerald Ryan will head to Thursday’s Wyong race meeting with three well-fancied runners. The master trainer will saddle up odds-on favourite Secretly Awesome ($1.75 on TAB) in the Go Electrical Tuggerah Maiden Plate (1350m). The son of Snitzel debuted at Newcastle on March 31 and his performance was outstanding.

The three-year-old came out of barrier 9 in a field of 10 and he was trapped three-wide with no cover. It was a quality Provincial Maiden over 1200m and Secretly Awesome ran home strongly to go down by half a length. The longer trip is ideal and he has drawn barrier five.

Ryan’s other two good chances are Highbury ($3) in the H & H Catering Maiden Handicap (1600m) and King’s Champ ($4.20) in the 1000m Coca-Cola Class 2 Handicap.

Highbury takes on favourite Significance ($1.65) in his first start since November. He was narrowly beaten on this track in September. Highbury has been gelded since he last raced and he trialled okay recently.

King’s Champ was an easy winner at Goulburn recently and he comes in well at the weights after Tom Sherry’s 2kg claim. Ryan has a fourth runner Super Dancer ($7.50) which is on debut and clashes with Secretly Awesome.

RACE 1, H&H CATERING MAIDEN HANDICAP, 1600M: Highbury ($3) resumes on the back of two trials and he was narrowly beaten on this track in September. He has been gelded since he last raced and he trialled well at Rosehill recently. Significance ($1.65 fav) drops in class and he is the likely leader and could prove difficult to run down. Dunlee ($6.50) was placed at Scone last start.
SELECTIONS: 3 HIGHBURY, 1 SIGNIFICANCE, 2 DUNLEE

RACE 2, RAPID CLEAN CENTRAL COAST 3YO MAIDEN PLATE, 1000M: Kyo ($4.20) hasn’t been far away in both starts and he has drawn well and has a 2kg claim. He has led in both starts and he will be hard to run down. First starter More Prophets ($1.85 fav) has won a recent trial and Giselle Anne ($3.60) is never far away.
SELECTIONS: 3 KYO, 8 MORE PROPHETS, 5 GISELLE ANNE

RACE 3, GO ELECTRICAL TUGGERAH MAIDEN PLATE, 1350M: Secretly Awesome's ($1.75 fav) debut win at Newcastle was an eye-catcher. He was trapped three-wide with no cover and still hit the line hard to go down by half a length. Savaspur ($3.40) resumes and was less than a length from the winner at Canterbury and Kembla last prep. Super Dancer ($7.50) has a place chance.
SELECTIONS: 4 SECRETLY AWESOME, 3 SAVASPUR, 7 SUPER DANCER

RACE 4, CARLTON & UNITED BREWERIES B/M 64, 2100M: Loves To Rock ($2.30 fav) is on the back-up after an easy win at Newcastle on Saturday and after racing on the pace, she raced away in the closing stages. She has a 2kg claim and the longer trip is ideal. Unamerican ($5) won well at Newcastle last start. Also Cool ($5) is racing well.
SELECTIONS: 1 LOVES TO ROCK, 5 UNAMERICAN, 1 ALSO COOL

RACE 5, COCA-COLA CLASS 2 HANDICAP, 1200M: King’s Champ ($4.20) was an easy winner at Goulburn last start and this is a winnable race for him. He has drawn well and will benefit from a 2kg claim. He will probably go back and the tempo will be good. Corcra ($3.10 fav) has good country form and Vox Pop ($5) is unbeaten this prep.
SELECTIONS: 3 KING’S CHAMP, 4 CORCRA, 7 VOX POP

RACE 6, WWW.TAB.COM.AU PROVINCIAL CUP CLASS 4, 1600M: Surjin ($5) put the writing on the wall when placed behind Zebrowski (Aust. Derby runner-up) on the Kensington Track last start. He has been racing much better horses and ticks all boxes. Belle De Vega ($7.50) is well placed here and First Lady ($5.50) won okay last start.
SELECTIONS: 8 SURJIN, 4 BELLE DEE VEGA, 5 FIRST LADY
