John Schell's Tips For Newcastle (Tuesday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a good track

Race 1 - 1:15PM MASTER BUILDERS ASSOCIATION CLASS 1 HANDICAP (900 METRES):

7. Confess Our Dreams had looked good winning two trials before debuting with a narrow win at this track over this distance. Confess Our Dreams raced on the speed in that event and battled on well and a similar showing is on the cards here.

Dangers: 4. Mr Trackside was a strong winner at this track when resuming from a spell then finished fourth here last time out when far from disgraced. He can show up again here without surprising. 2. Vengeful is first-up from a spell in this and can sprint well fresh, while 8. Sunday Bell is a last start Scone winner and is not out of this.

How to play it: Confess Our Dreams WIN.

Race 2 - 1:50PM LIVING TURF CG&E MAIDEN HANDICAP (1400 METRES):

4. Kenology hasn’t figured in the placings of late but he has been close-up in all his recent runs. Kenology hit the line well enough last time out at Warwick Farm when finishing fourth behind Unowho, and a repeat of that effort would have him in the thick of things here.

Dangers: 3. Godzilla was an odds-on favourite when resuming from a spell with a third placing at Kemble Grange. He has been placed in two of six starts and warrants thought again here. 5. Invincible Spy is on debut for the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable and a bold showing is expected. 8. Perfect Point has been just behind the placings in three starts back from a spell and could be placed here.

How to play it: Kenology WIN.

Race 3 - 2:25PM COASTLINE POOL & SPA F&M MAIDEN HANDICAP (1400 METRES):

6. Cranberries had two starts in Victoria earlier in the year and finished unplaced in each of them. She was spelled following a fifth at Sandown and since coming back into work she has had two trials to prepare for this return.

Dangers: 1. Alvina’s Luck has been placed in two of four starts, and was solid when third at Gosford last time out. She has upside and cannot be taken lightly in this. 4. Outcast Girl resumes from a spell here and was placed at this track before the break. 5. Showtime Sassy has been placed in two of her four starts and must be considered again here.

How to play it: Cranberries EACH WAY.

Race 4 - 3:05PM DAVALI THOROUGHBREDS PROVINCIAL 3YO M HCP (1300 METRES):

10. Irradiance had two starts earlier this year and failed to beat a runner home in each of them against much stronger class than she meets in this. She had two trials this campaign before resuming with a close-up second at Goulburn. She’ll be better for that hitout.

Dangers: 7. Justiciar is resuming from a spell here and can be expected to sprint well fresh on the back of two trials. 11. Bakerloo has run well in both runs back from a spell and can be placed here. 2. Seasons Of Mist is on debut and could surprise.

How to play it: Irradiance EACH WAY.

Race 5 - 3:40PM SHARP OFFICE MAIDEN PLATE (1600 METRES):

6. Incessant was on debut when running a solid second on the Kensington track at Randwick. There was plenty to like about that effort and he can go on with the job in this with Jason Collett in the saddle.

Dangers: 11. Sekani was placed at Warwick Farm last time out and can run well again here with a repeat performance. 9. Nerano ran well here last time out and is capable of being thereabouts again. 10. Royalify was placed at Hawkesbury at his second race start and could figure in the placings again.

How to play it: Incessant WIN.

Race 6 - 4:15PM ALLIED THE CAREFUL MOVERS CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (1850 METRES):

7. Unowho looked good when hitting the line well to score in maiden grade at Warwick Farm last time out. Unowho was lining up against a handy field in that event but was strong on the line. He can handle the step up to class 1 company here.

Dangers: 12. Koning is yet to miss a place from three starts and battled on well when second at Kembla Grange last time out. He should be given plenty of thought in this. 8. Girl With Balloon is first-up here having formerly raced in France, and could sprint well fresh. 4. Riley Park is a last start winner with claims again here.

How to play it: Unowho WIN.

Race 7 - 4:50PM NEW ZEALAND BLOODSTOCK BM 68 HANDICAP (1200 METRES):

7. Resistible is resuming from a spell here and has had two trials to be prepared for this return. Her form was solid last campaign with a Kembla Grange victory being followed by two city placings.

Dangers: 4. Big Happiness is a five- time winner from 21 starts and can never be taken lightly, while 2. Toronomica won a couple on end earlier this year and wasn’t disgraced behind Aft Cabin before being spelled. 5. Lancaster Bomber has been down on form of late but can figure here at his best.

How to play it: Resistible WIN.

Race 8 - 5:30PM THE PRINCE OF MEREWETHER BM 64 HCP (1400 METRES):

2. Hokkaido was resuming from a spell at Warwick Farm last time when finishing sixth when not beaten far by stablemate The Replicant. He will strip fitter for that run and can show enough improvement to return to winning form.

Dangers: 15. Panic won well on debut at Nowra then was solid again when third on the Kensington track last time out. He should be given plenty of though again in this. 11. Burnett was far from disgraced when resuming on the Kensington track at Randwick, while 8. Genetic Freak is first-up from a spell here and capable of sprinting well fresh.

How to play it: Hokkaido WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 2 (4) Kenology.
Race 8 (2) Hokkaido.

Best Value:
Race 3 (6) Cranberries.
