John Schell's Tips For Kembla Grange (Tuesday)

By John Schell

(Selections based on a good track)

Race 1 - 12:35PM THANKS RON SINCLAIR MIDWAY CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1500 METRES):

1. Aix En Provence has only had five starts but is yet to miss a place in any of them, with a win, two seconds and two thirds to his name. He broke through with a victory at this track on heavy conditions last time out, and he’s handled better conditions as well. He has plenty of upside and should take a power of beating again in this.

Dangers: 2. Pogacar was close-up at Newcastle two starts ago, then was down the track last time out. He should find this an easier assignment and an improved showing looks to be on the cards. 7. Bonus Tempus hasn’t been far away in any of his recent runs and although he doesn’t win often, he should be around the money again. 5. Platinum Asset was a Hawkesbury winner three starts ago, and could be placed here if she returns to her best.

How to play it: Aix En Provence WIN.

Race 2 - 1:10PM CARLTON DRY 3.5 4YO&UP MAIDEN PLATE (1000 METRES):

7. Tulle is a well-bred mare that has only had four starts and has finished third in each of them. She was placed in her first two starts in city grade, and since then was in the money at this track and then at Scone when resuming.

Dangers: 8. Vicuna debuted with a midfield Hawkesbury effort and she should be primed to run well again here if she can repeat that effort. 4. Baby Daisy has been placed in four of 10 starts and she can figure in the placings again here if she can maintain that form. 5. Jocund debuted with a sixth at Gunnedah on the back of some solid enough trials and can improve in this.

How to play it: Tulle WIN.

Race 3 - 1:50PM CANADIAN CLUB 3YO MAIDEN PLATE (1000 METRES):

2. Midnight Harry is yet to win from nine starts but he has looked good with four placings to his name. He ran second in a couple of Gosford runs late last year and early this year, and has since failed to beat a runner home in tougher company at Canterbury and Hawkesbury. He’s drawn well here and has looked good in a recent trial.

Dangers: 7. Our Little Star was down the track on debut at Scone a year ag, but resumes here om the back of some solid trials. 8. Persister is first-up from a spell in this and while she was well beaten on debut, she looked good enough in a recent trial to be rated a place chance here. 3. Ain’tnosaint has only had the two starts and can sneak into the placings with the benefit of improvement.

How to play it: Midnight Harry WIN.

Race 4 - 2:25PM THE WARRA CLUB CONDITIONAL BM 68 HANDICAP (1000 METRES):

3. Akaka Falls is a well performed sprinter that has been racing in good form of late. He won at Newcastle in good style in early March and then backed that up with a victory at Orange. He battled on well for a last start third at Warwick Farm and only needs to run up to that to be a leading chance here.

Dangers: 4. Divine Vicky resumed from a spell as favourite and did the job well to score a win at this track. She’s only missed a place three times from 10 starts and is worth plenty of thought here. 7. Rumours Abound comes into this on the back of a last start Albury win and has won three of six starts. 5. Mr Rock It is rarely too far from the action and has the ability to give this a shake.

How to play it: Akaka Falls EACH WAY.

Race 5 - 3:05PM PERONI MAIDEN HANDICAP (1600 METRES):

1. Lenape Vibe had a couple of recent trials before debuting with a sixth on the Kensington track when beaten less than 2.5 lengths. He’s drawn well here and this looks a suitable event for him to break through with a win.

Dangers: 5. Shadow Express resumed from a spell with a second at this track, then followed it up with a last start midfield effort at Hawkesbury. He looks to have the ability to give this a shake. 7. Balmierro has some solid city form to his name and only needs to maintain that to be rated a chance of scoring in this grade. 2. Fifth Force has been placed in each of his latest two starts and a repeat of those efforts would have him figuring in the finish of this.

How to play it: Lenape Vibe WIN.

Race 6 - 3:40PM BECOME AN ITC MEMBER PROVINCIAL MAIDEN HCP (1300 METRES):

1. Rubilace was a solid trial winner at this track before debuting with a third at Moruya when not beaten far. She backed that up with a close second at Warwick Farm when not beaten far, and a repeat of that would have her in the thick of things in this.

Dangers: 8. Our Cosmic Belle ran well when finishing second last time out behind a handy one at this track. That was at just her third start in a race and she looks to have plenty of upside. 6 Show Pony was midfield on debut at this track, then ran second here at her only other start when performing well. She looks to have the talent to give this a shake. 2. Goodnight Barlow ran well on debut at Moruya and looks to have the ability to be a factor here.

How to play it: Rubilace WIN.

Race 7 - 4:20PM BALTER BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1300 METRES):

1. Code In Time looked good winning his first two runs back from a spell at Canberra when doing the job in each in good style. He’s since been close-up when second in a run here and then at Scone, and another bold showing is on the cards.

Dangers: 2. Head Of The Herd resumed with a down the track effort at Scone when not beaten too far. He can show improvement here. 3. Serene Nic finished last in two Kensington track runs either side of a spell, but was a winner at this track before that and warrants plenty of thought here. 4. Autunno hit winning form at the end of his latest campaign, winning three of his last four starts at Canberra, the latest as a $1.26 favourite. He resumes here on the back of two trials.

How to play it: Code In Time WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 1 (1) Aix En Provence.
Race 3 (2) Midnight Harry.

Best Value:
Race 4 (3) Akaka Falls.
