John Schell's Tips For Kembla Grange (Tuesday)

By John Schell

(Selections based on a good track)

Race 1 - 1:50PM HIM KEMBLA GRANGE CLASSIC DAY MARCH 15 MAIDEN (1500 M):

2. Bank Heist ran well on debut when racing close enough to the speed and finishing fourth in a Hawkesbury event. Rachel King is back for the ride and he’s shown enough ability in his trials abd race start to be considered a leading chance in this.

Dangers: 5. Etched In Time failed to fire on a wet track last time out but is an improver. 6. Himeros has been racing well with a string of placings of late and has claims again. 3. Coto De Caza is resuming from a spell and looks the only other chance.

How to play it: Bank Heist WIN.

Race 2 - 2:25PM PUNTERS PAVILLION WITH BRAD DAVIDSON MARCH 15 M (1000 M):

10. Rose Code was midfield on debut at Hawkesbury and is capable of sharp improvement here. She has performed well in her trials before that and despite drawing wide in this, she has Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle.

Dangers: 8. Oceans Quiet comes out of the same race as Rose Code and is also ready to show up with the benefit of that experience. 6. Helldancer was a beaten favourite at Goulburn last time out but is not out of this. 12. Alabama State has had two starts in city grade and hasn’t been disgraced in either of them. He can give a good sight in this.

How to play it: Rose Code EACH WAY.

Race 3 - 3:05PM JANSZ LADIES LAWN MARCH 15 PROVINCIAL C1 HCP (1000 M):

2. Reigning King has a great record with a win and three placings to his name from just the six starts. He comes into this on the back of a last start second at Hawkesbury behind Dark Glitter and only needs to run up to that to be a leading contender in this.

Dangers: 1. Kunnese is resuming from a long spell and has had two recent trials to prepare. He’s a winner at this track and should be primed to run well. 3. Royal Bombardier was first-up at Newcastle last time out when scoring a strong win and he can go on with the job here. 5. Layin’ Four looked good winning at Hawkesbury last time out and can be thereabouts again with a repeat of that.

How to play it: Reigning King WIN.

R4 - 3:40PM INVADES RACE DAY PARTY AT KEMBLA GRANGE APRIL 27 M (1200 M):

1. Alesund is on debut in this and has had a few trials to prepare. He’s finished second in both of the most recent at Wyong and Gosford and comes into this from a stable in form. He should give a good account of himself here.

Dangers: 6. Parade Ground ran his best race yet when finishing second at this track before being spelled and has had a couple of trials to be readied for this return to racing. 5. Make A Call has had plenty of chances but has shown enough ability in his career to be rated a leading contender here. 2. Briasa is on debut for the Hawkes stable and has looked good in a lead-up trial.

How to play it: Alesund EACH WAY.

Race 5 - 4:20PM HAPPY 70TH LIZZIE CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1200 METRES):

12. Zahdi broke through to score in maiden grade at Hawkesbury before being spelled and accounted for a handy type in the shape of Magnatear in that event. Her previous form was solid enough and she’s drawn well here and shoud get every chance to go on with the job first-up from a spell.

Dangers: 2. Fortress Australia led the up and wasn’t disgraced when midfield here last time out and is worth including among the main chances. 1. Capitol Queen resumed from a spell with an acceptable effort at Canterbury when not beaten far into seventh and can improve here. 9. Lola Bunny was midfield at Canberra when resuming and can be placed in this.

How to play it: Zahdi WIN.

Race 6 - 4:55PM JOIN THE WARRA CLUB TODAY BM 64 HANDICAP (1600 METRES):

4. Turned Down was a winner at Canterbury on debut when racing on the speed then finished fourth at that track at his only other start. This looks within his reach.

Dangers: 7. Dulcet comes into this on the back of a last start fourth at Canterbury and is worth some thought. 8. Allhallowtide has drawn the inside here and warrants thought. 9. Marenaro was resuming from a spell when finishing eighth at Canterbury and is an improver into this.

How to play it: Turned Down WIN.

R7 - 5:30PM PERONI KEMBLA GRANGE CLASSIC MARCH 15 CONDITIONAL BM 68 (1300 M):

4. Stars And Bars had good form before being spelled and comes into this on the back of a last start second at Hawkesbury. That form should hold up well here.

Dangers: 12. Opito Ballerina has been racing well since resuming from a spell with two fourths and two thirds from four runs. She can figure in the thick of things again here. 3. Overlord has been contesting Highway grade races of late and is capable of showing up against these. 1. Island Press is from a good stable and could figure in the placings here without surprising.

How to play it: Stars And Bars WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 5 (12) Zahdi.
Race 7 (4) Stars And Bars.

Best Value:
Race 4 (1) Alesund.
