John Schell's Tips For Hawkesbury (Tuesday)

By John Schell

(Selections based on a soft track)

Race 1 - 1:15PM HRC MOTEL MAIDEN PLATE (1500 METRES):

4. Asteride has finished third in two of her seven starts and she contested the Sweet Embrace Stakes leading into the Golden Slipper earlier in the year. She has her share of ability and is well worth including among the main chances in this.

Dangers: 5. Dream Baby debuted with a solid third at Kembla Grange and that was on the back of some solid trials. She looks set to run well here. 6. Elegant Artist finished fourth in the same event Dream Baby contested last time out and has claims again, while 3. Casablanca Express ran well at this track when resuming from a spell and looks an improver into this.

How to play it: Asteride WIN.

Race 2 - 1:55PM HAPPY 99TH BIRTHDAY NITA CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1500 METRES):

2. High Dandy is resuming from a spell here having tackled much stronger company that this in his career. High Dandy won at Wyong in March before taking on the Tulloch Stakes and Carbine Club Stakes when down the track in each. He’s had two trials since then leading into this return to racing and has the class to come back as a winner.

Dangers: 6. Pacific Warrior had shown some talent in his career before resuming from a spell with a close-up fifth at Newcastle when doing his best work late. He looks suited by the step up in distance here and can make a winning bid. 3. Lone Force had good form before being spelled and resumed with a third at this track before winning in super maiden grade at Wyong when last produced. He can go on with the job here. 1. Line Of Fire took on stronger grade than this at Randwick when resuming and is a winning chance back to this company.

How to play it: High Dandy WIN.

Race 3 - 2:35PM BLAKES MARINE MAIDEN HANDICAP (1100 METRES):

1. Marais has only had three starts and has been placed in each of them. He ran second in his first two starts at Gosford and ran third at Wyong before being spelled. He’s had two solid trials to prepare for this and should be primed to run well.

Dangers: 5. Dyami is on debut here and has had two barrier trials in preparation. He won the first of them at Rosehill and then was a close-up third at the same track last time out. He’s drawn wide here but should show up. 7. Mogul Monarch ran second on debut at Gosford and was spelled after a seventh at Newcastle. He’s won two trials leading into this first-up effort and is bound to perform well. 9. Global Miss resumes having finished sixth at Scone back in March. She’s an improver.

How to play it: Marais WIN.

Race 4 - 3:10PM IRRESISTIBLE POOLS & SPAS 4YO&UP MAIDEN PLATE (1300 METRES):

14. Wexford Miss has only had two starts for a fifth at this track when safely held, followed up by a third at Goulburn when close-up. She’s had two trials to return for this resuming run, and won the latest of them at Randwick. She’s drawn well and should take a power of beating.

Dangers: 7. Threatening was placed in his second and third starts in his initial preparation, then backed that up when resuming from a spell with a third at Canterbury when beaten just over half a length. He strips fitter for that and should be prominent here. 11. Grassburn is drawn wide but she’s been placed in two of five starts and was a last start fifth at Canterbury when only beaten a little over two lengths. 9. Ausbred Mimosa resumed from a spell with a fourth at Hawkesbury behind Wings Of Desire, which has won again since. This looks a nice race for her.

How to play it: Wexford Miss WIN.

Race 5 - 3:45PM LANDER TOYOTA PROVINCIAL CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1300 METRES):

1. Northern Eyes resumed from a spell with a solid effort when fourth at Wyong. He since backed that up with an impressive win at this track when racing on the speed and bolting away to score with ease. He can go on with the job here.

Dangers: 5. Kervette broke her maiden when scoring as favourite at Wyong last Sunday week and she can go on with the job now she’s won. 7. Tender Streak resumes from a spell here and has had two trials leading into it. She impressed when winning the latest of them at Scone. 10. Sturty hit the line well to win at Bathurst at his last start he could run well again here with a repeat.

How to play it: Northern Eyes WIN.

Race 6 - 4:25PM PIONEER SERVICES CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1100 METRES):

2. After Match was resuming from a spell when he bolted clear to score an impressive win in a four-horse field at this track last time out. He’d finished fifth on the Kensington track at Randwick on debut in March and that form looks good for this.

Dangers: 6. Seascape won on debut at Gosford when leading and running away to score with ease She took on tougher grade at Rosehill after that and resumes from a spell here after an eighth in that event. 1. Still Alice has a win and three placings from six starts. She went down fighting when second at this track last time out and can give plenty of cheek again. 8. Weeping Woman resumed from a spell with a dominant win on the Acton track at Canberra when leading. This is harder but she shouldn’t be underestimated.

How to play it: After Match WIN.

Race 7 - 5:00PM CLARENDON TAVERN MIDWAY BM 64 HANDICAP (1800 METRES):

3. Ambassadors scored a solid win at Newcastle two starts ago, then backed that up with a strong third at Randwick behind Green Shadows in Midway grade. He’s drawn the rails here and should get the run of the race.

Dangers: 4. Fioprospero had been racing well before justifying favouritism to score at Newcastle when last produced. A repeat of that would make him hard to hold out here. 9. Twin Turbo had been placed in three straight runs before winning narrowly but impressively at Grafton last month. 4. Jonny Be Swift has finished fourth in both runs back from a spell and should be in the minor money again here.

How to play it: Ambassadors WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 2 (2) High Dandy.
Race 4 (14) Wexford Miss.

Best Value:
Race 1 (1) Precious Straand.
