John Schell's Tips For Hawkesbury (Tuesday)

By John Schell

(Selections based on a heavy track)

Race 1 - 12:10PM HRC MOTEL 3YO MAIDEN PLATE (1000 METRES):

9. Waterski took on city grade in three of her first four starts and wasn’t disgraced in them. She looked good in a couple of trials, winning the second of them on a heavy track, before resuming here with a second to subsequent winner Art Volant. She’s drawn to get a good run here.

Dangers: 2. Angel In The Wind is a filly on debut here and she has had two trials leading into this. She improved in her second hitout when finishing third at Warwick Farm, and a bold fresh showing is on the cards here. 1. Cryptonic has only had two starts and led in each of them when finishing second and fourth at this track. He should give a good account of himself again here. 10. Without is a well-bred filly resuming from a spell. She has the pace to take plenty of running down against these.

How to play it: Waterski WIN.

Race 2 - 12:45PM FOWLER CIVIL CONTRACTING MAIDEN PLATE (1100 METRES)

9. Hyperbolic is on debut and is a recent trial winner at this track. She performed well at her only other trial and has drawn the inside gate here with Tyler Schiller taking the ride. Expect her to give a bold sight on her home track from a form stable.

Dangers: 3. Plaza was on debut at Scone on cup day when finishing third in a promising effort. She backed that up with a fourth at Warwick Farm at her only other start, and she has the ability to give this a shake if she can run up to those efforts. 8. Stardeel is on debut and from the Bjorn Baker stable. He’s looked good in his trials and has the services of Joshua Parr which is in his favour. 2. Oh Diamond Lil is a filly on debut and she’s shown enough talent in trials to be rated a chance.

How to play it: Hyperbolic EACH WAY.

Race 3 - 1:20PM WORKERS LIFESTYLE GROUP MAIDEN HANDICAP (1500 METRES):

3. Sweet Proposal was placed at Warwick Farm at her latest start and she looks to have the ability to give this a shake.

Dangers: 4. Vadisimo hasn’t been disgraced in each of his two starts, and could show up here without surprising. 5. Fire Island finished a solid fourth on debut at Warwick Farm and only needs to run up to that effort in order to be a contender here. 9. Pierant is third-up from a spell here and is ready to peak.

How to play it: Sweet Proposal WIN.

Race 4 - 1:55PM XXXX GOLD CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1600 METRES):

2. Fifth Force did the job well to score over a mile at Kembla Grange when last produced. His three other runs this preparation were all sound and he only needs to have maintained that form in order to be a leading contender here.

Dangers: 1. Stray ran well in a couple races when placed late in her last preparation, and she raced up to that form when finishing fourth at Randwick when resuming. She can give cheek here with a repeat of that. 3. Takeover Artist won well here last time out and has solid claims again, while 4. Twin Turbo was placed here at his latest start and could figure again without surprising.

How to play it: Fifth Force WIN.

Race 5 - 2:35PM PIONEER SERVICES PROVINCIAL MAIDEN HANDICAP (1300 METRES):

1. Monty Be Quick is an import on debut for trainer Nathan Doyle in this. He was placed in two of his five starts in the UK last year, and has had two trials to prepare for this, easily winning the latest of them at Gosford.

Dangers: 5. Nefertari resumed from a spell with a close-up fifth at this track behind Art Volant and Waterski. That form looks solid enough for her to give a race like this a shake. 7. Monte Tiana was big odds here last time out when finishing second. She’s on the improve and is not out of this. 9. Vicuna has had two starts and is an improver here from the good gate.

How to play it: Monty Be Quick WIN.

Race 6 - 3:10PM BLAKES MARINE MIDWAY CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1300 METRES):

6. Inquisitive Legend was a winner at Newcastle when resuming from a spell, then was midfield at the same track before finishing fourth here last time out after leading. She has the talent to bounce back to top form here.

Dangers: 5. Struff was beaten less than a length when fourth here last time out, and should be better for that first-up run. 4. Big Shooter followed a second at Gosford with a strong win at this track, then wasn’t beaten far when sixth here last time out. 13. Amigos No More ran well when placed at Kembla Grange when last produced and is capable of figuring again.

How to play it: Inquisitive Legend WIN.

Race 7 - 3:50PM LANDER TOYOTA BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (2000 METRES):

1. Guzumped settled back in the field at Wyong last time out, but once in the clear he gathered his rivals in well to score a dominant victory. The step up to 2000m should suit, and he can go on with the job.

Dangers: 3. O’Ziggy is lightly raced but has two wins to his name from nine starts. He’s been just behind the placings in his latest three starts since scoring at Bathurst, and should be prominent throughout from the good gate. 11. Worth Avenue has had three runs back from a spell. She was placed here when resuming and has since been close-up at Scone and Canterbury. 2. Happy Saturday ran well when placed in his first two starts back from a spell, and can improve on a last start effort.

How to play it: Guzumped WIN.

Race 8 - 4:25PM CLARENDON TAVERN BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1100 METRES):

11. World Alliance has shown plenty of talent having two wins and as many placings to his name from just the five starts. He hasn’t raced since finishing fourth at Warwick Farm in January, and has had two trials to prepare, winning the latest over C’est Magique.

Dangers: 1. Hi Dubai is resuming from a lengthy spell here. She’s only missed a place once from five starts and is a city winner. She’s worth plenty of thought here. 5. Euros is resuming from a spell and has sound form at best. 6. La Boqueria won well at Ipswich before finishing second after leading at Taree. She could give some cheek here.

How to play it: World Alliance WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 1 (9) Waterski.
Race 7 (1) Guzumped.

Best Value:
Race 2 (9) Hyperbolic.
