John Schell's Tips For Hawkesbury (Tuesday)

By John Schell

(Selections based on a heavy track)

Race 1 - 12:20PM HRC MOTEL 4YO&UP MAIDEN PLATE (1100 METRES):

8. Skip A Beat has only had three starts but they have all been in city grade races and she has performed well enough in each of them, including a third behind Pereille on the Kensington track in slow ground. She’s drawn to get a good run in this and can break her maiden.

Dangers: 6. Sapphire Kiss debuted with a third at Wyong and can be in the finish of this if she runs up to that. 1. Dapper Dancer is resuming from a spell and could sneak into the placings. 4. Rainagain has finished fourth in each of his two starts and could be placed here without surprising.

How to play it: Skip A Beat WIN.

Race 2 - Race 2 - 12:55PM XXXX GOLD MIDWAY MAIDEN HANDICAP (1300 METRES):

1. Call Me Grouchy had two trials spaced over a lengthy period before debuting at Gosford last month and running well when finishing fourth. He will be better for that experience and should be in the thick of things here.

Dangers: 9. Reiby Princess finished fourth to subsequent city winner Pippie Beach at Kembla Grange when last produced and a repeat of that would have her hard to hold out here. 6. Gigi Fille resumes here and her latest trial indicated she will run well. 4. Big Shooter finished second at Gosford last time out and can be placed again here.

How to play it: Call Me Grouchy WIN.

Race 3 - 1:35PM PINK FINSS CHARITY 4YO&UP MAIDEN PLATE (1500 METRES):

6. Quintillion was resuming from a spell when running home well to be beaten less than a length when third at Newcastle last time out. The step up in distance here is in his favour and he has solid city form to his name.

Dangers: 1. Bo Bo Beware was midfield at Canberra last time out and is not the worst in this. 10. Mosca Luna ran an improved race when finishing third at Goulburn when last produced and she can figure in the placings again with a repeat of that effort. 5. Proceed has been just behind the placings of late and is capable of being placed.

How to play it: Quintillion WIN.

Race 4 - 2:10PM BLAKES MARINE 3YO MAIDEN HANDICAP (1100 METRES):

10. Setombe had two starts at Canterbury earlier in the year and performed well in each of them She’s had two trials leading into this return and only needs to overcome a wide alley to be prominent.

Dangers: 3. She’s All It has only had three starts either side of a spell and she’s been placed in each of them, the latest at Goulburn when resuming. She’s got the ability to perform well again in this. 7. Flying Thinker has been placed in each of her latest two trials and she should run well on debut if she runs up to those efforts. 8. Giza debuted with a seventh at Canterbury in January and is a trial winner leading into this return to racing.

How to play it: Setombe WIN.

Race 5 - 2:50PM WORKERS CLUB GROUP PROVINCIAL CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1100 METRES):

6. Party Doll was placed at Newcastle and Kembla Grange in her first two runs back from a spell, then wasn’t beaten too far when a last start fifth at Gosford. She is racing well enough to give this a shake.

Dangers: 4. Close Encounter showed improvement when resuming from a spell with a victory at Kembla Grange. That was just his fourth race start and he is capable of going on with the job now. 7. Jamakin Money was a Wyong winner two starts ago then finished third at Gosford last time out. She is racing well enough to be prominent here. 9. Jabali Belle is resuming from a spell and can sprint well while fresh.

How to play it: Party Doll WIN.

Race 6 - 3:25PM PIONEER SERVICES CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1500 METRES):

3. Allapercanto resumed from a spell with a seventh at Sandown before finishing down the track in the Bendigo Guineas. He since returned to Sydney and was held up in the straight before finishing a close-up fourth on the Kensington track.

Dangers: 2. Good Once had very good form with placings in eight of his first 11 starts, then was rewarded for that consistency when scoring narrowly as favourite at Newcastle last time out. He’s sure to be one of the leading contenders again. 1. Until Valhalla was a city winner on the Kensington track last campaign and his two runs back from a spell in city grade have been good. 5. Investment scored in maiden grade at Gosford last time out and is worth including among the chances again.

How to play it: Allapercanto WIN.

Race 7 - 4:05PM LANDER TOYOTA CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (1800 METRES):

1. Ever Was has had plenty of chances with 26 starts to his name but he has won one race and been placed in a further eight starts. He ran second to the handy Wymark at Newcastle five starts ago and finished second at the same track last time out.

Dangers: 14. Our Uptown Girl is a last start winner and is worth plenty of though again with a repeat of that. 12. Heaven Bound had been racing well before tackling the Adrian Knox then won well at Newcastle last time out. 13. Joint Mission has the talent to overcome a wide barrier.

How to play it: Ever Was EACH WAY.

Race 8 - 4:40PM CLARENDON TAVERN BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1300 METRES:

4. Bat Out Of Hell is resuming from a spell and has drawn to get a good run and is a heavy track winner that should take plenty of beating.

Dangers: 8. Emancipist scored a good win at Canberra two starts ago then finished third at that track last time out. 10. Beauty Rising resumed from a spell with a safely held Kensington track effort and can improve here. 12. Dark Glitter is a winner of three from nine and has shown plenty of ability in her career. She is well worth including among the chances in this.

How to play it: Bat Out Of Hell WIN.
