John Schell's Tips For Hawkesbury (Tuesday)

By John Schell

(Selections based on a good track)

Race 1 - 1:50PM HRC MOTEL 2YO MAIDEN PLATE (1000 METRES):

5. Diddle Dumpling is a well bred filly on debut here. She’s had two trials at this track and finished second in the first of them in October before winning the latest earlier this month. She looks a ready made type and should be right in the thick of things from the outset.

Dangers: 1. Blue Illusion started favourite on debut when failing then ran third at Rosehill before resuming from a spell with a down the track Randwick effort. He’ll find this easier. 6. Drifting is a filly on debut on the back of two good trials and she should be primed to run well. 8. Satin Shimmer is on debut for the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott stable and she’s had two trials to prepare for this.

How to play it: Diddle Dumpling WIN.

Race 2 - 2:25PM WORKERS LIFESTYLE GROUP F&M BM 64 HCP (1400 METRES):

1. Countyourblessings had solid form around her before she resumed from a spell and justified a short quote to score a strong win at Goulburn. She’s drawn ideally in this to get the run of the race and she should take a power of beating again.

Dangers: 2. Koby Girl led and did the job well to score on debut at Wyong and should give plenty of cheek again in this. 4. Manhattan’s won a maiden at this track and has a solid enough overall record to be rated a leading contender. 6. Impressiero tackled Midway grade last time out and is not out of this.

How to play it: Countyourblessings WIN.

Race 3 - 3:05PM ASCEND TROPHIES MIDWAY 4YO&UP MAIDEN HANDICAP (1100 METRES):

4. Extremely Frilly has only had three starts but she’s performed well enough in each of them to be rated a leading chance in this. She ran second on debut at Gosford and despite missing a place in both subsequent runs she’s shown enough to indicate she has ability. She’s had two trials leading into this.

Dangers: 2. Layin’ Four has finished second in three of her latest four starts at Moruya, Kembla Grange and Gosford and she only needs to repeat those efforts to be rates a top chance here. 6. Black Tiara has been placed in two of her six starts and has performed well in two trials leading into this. 9. Hongkong Harmony is still a maiden but has run well in a number of his runs and must be respected in this grade.

How to play it: Extremely Frilly WIN.

Race 4 - 3:40PM XXXX GOLD MAIDEN PLATE (1400 METRES):

2. Godzilla is lightly raced with seven starts to his name and he’s shown plenty of talent. He’s been placed in two of those starts and has performed well in city and provincial grade. He resumes here on the back of two solid trials and from the good barrier he gets his chance to break through.

Dangers: 7. Side Show has been placed in four of his six starts including two thirds on the Kensington track at Randwick in his latest two runs. He has the talent to give this a shake. 1. Magic Leprechaun is ready to peal in this and warrants thought. 13. Mysterio is a filly on debut for Godolphin and she’s had a solid grounding with a number of trials under her belt. She should be primed to run well.

How to play it: Godzilla WIN.

Race 5 - 4:15PM IRRESISTIBLE POOLS AND SPAS SUPER 3YO M HCP (1100 METRES):

12. Silver Cliff is a filly on debut and she has looked the goods winning both her trials at this track and at Randwick. Tommy Berry was aboard in the latest trial and he sticks with her for this assignment. She’s drawn well enough to take up a prominent position from the outset.

Dangers: 10. Oceans Quiet is a well-bred filly on debut in this and she has looked good winning each of her two trials. She’s draw well in gate two here and should be prominent from the outset. 11. Rose Code is another filly on debut and she has also performed well in two trials. She should run well. 7. Bonding was resuming from a spell when having just her second start at Kembla Grange last time out when finishing second. She should have derived benefit from that and is a leading chance here.

How to play it: Silver Cliff WIN.

Race 6 - 4:50PM PIONEER SERVICES PROVINCIAL BM 64 HANDICAP (1100 METRES):

3. Los Padres is first-up from a spell for a new stable but has shown ability in his career and he has looked good in a trial leading into this event. Formerly a Godolphin galloper, Los Padre is now in the care of Mitchell Beer and he went down narrowly in a recent Kembla Grange trial. He’s won two of 10 and is a winner at this track.

Dangers: 6. C’mon Mate has only won one race from 11 starts but he’s also been placed six times. He resumes from a spell here and has been close-up in a recent trial leading into this return. 12. Tender Streak is lightly raced with four starts to her name and she has a win and three placings. She resumes here on the back of a trial win and is primed to run well. 5. Stars And Bars was down the track at Rosehill when resuming but can improve here.

How to play it: Los Padres EACH WAY.

Race 7 - 5:30PM CLARENDON TAVERN CG&E BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1400 METRES):

8. Field Marshal has had one run back from a spell on the back of three trials and wasn’t disgraced on the Kensington track at Randwick. He’ll find this easier and should run well.

Dangers: 12. Pennypacker has been out of the placings in recent times but has shown enough talent in his career to be rated a chance in this. 7. Fiddlers Green won a maiden at this track last September and resumes here in a race he should give a good sight in. 9. Highborn Harry has shown enough talent in his eight starts to be given serious thought here.

How to play it: Field Marshal WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 1 (5) Diddle Dumpling.
Race 4 (2) Godzilla.

Best Value:
Race 6 (3) Los Padres.
