Gosford Winners - Tips For Wednesday 25th January

By Nick Berney

Tips and race by race preview by Nick Berney for Wednesday's Gosford meeting. Selections based on a soft track. Monitor for bias/pattern.

Race 1 - 1:55PM STAR 104.5 CENTRAL COAST BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (2600 METRES)

4. Chappelli was 31 days between runs last start at Kembla and was brave in defeat, running third. The gelding made an early mid-race move, led at a fast pace, kicked clear at the top of the straight and was left in front a long way out but battled on well. He is racing consistently this prep, brings the best last-start figure and has a solid starting price profile.

Dangers: 1. Celestial Fury had multiple factors against last start, where he raced wide in a fast tempo and lost his spot at a crucial stage. To his credit, he picked himself up and closed off well, giving every indication the 2600m would be ideal. Moreover, although well beaten, he started respectable prices in Listed races and finds barrier one here with a more positive race setup. 2. Private Detective was blocked at key stages last start at Kembla but ran on well. 6. Dissenter is ticking over ok and can improve.

How to play it: Chappelli WIN ($3.50 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Chappelli runs third at Kembla on January 14

Race 2 - 2:30PM MCN – MARINERS CORPORATE NETWORK 3YO MAIDEN HCP (1600 M)

Forget 7. Chouilly's last start at Warwick Farm, where she was heavily checked/blocked entering the final straight and went to the line untested. The filly produced solid figures that line up well here from last prep, and she can bounce back. The three-year-old can roll forward without much speed engaged, and the 1600m trip looks ideal.

Dangers: 1. Burnt By Bernie gets multiple factors in his favour here, and he has a starting price profile edge over some of his key rivals. The Annabel Neasham trained runner will undoubtedly be fitter, maps to control the race and is suited on soft ground. Expect him to be hard to run down. 4. State Of America got too far back first-up and ran strong closing splits. He is suited up in distance and will be looking to have the last shot. Add 2. Pierro Warrior who was honest on debut after racing wide.

How to play it: Chouilly WIN ($4.80 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: ODDS.

Race 3 - 3:05PM NORTH CONSTRUCTION MAIDEN PLATE (1200 METRES)

7. Bespangled profiles well for this and has been honest in both runs this prep in high-rating races. Further, key indicators suggest she is ready to peak third-up and is on an upwards ratings spiral. The three-year-old maps well and brings a competitive last-start figure.

Dangers: 9. Island Tide was well-fancied last start at Port Macquarie, but she had no luck and was found to be lame in a post-race veterinary inspection. She can bounce back with a significant barrier change and will roll forward. Debutante 6. Announcing sprinted well to score in a recent trial Gosford. She is a key late-market watch. Add 4. Zambezi River to trifectas and first fours.

How to play it: Bespangled WIN ($3.80 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: ODDS.

Bespangled runs third last start at Gosford on January 13

Race 4 - 3:40PM NOVA COAST SERVICES MIDWAY CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

4. Chipper had every chance last start at this track but raced slightly flat second-up and was back in distance. Before that start, he bolted in and ran slick time to break through for his maiden win. He maps to control the pace and will take some catching.

Dangers: 2. Putt For Dough is on a seven-day backup and won well over the same distance last start. 5. Saks On Fifth will be fitter and can run on strongly. 3. Martini Crusader has had a quiet trial and can sprint fresh.

How to play it: Chipper WIN ($1.80 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: EVENS.

Race 5 - 4:15PM PARTY BUS CENTRAL COAST CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

2. Grecian Lass led at a solid pace last start at Canterbury in a stronger grade and battled on well for fifth. Further, the market suggested she would benefit from the run and looks set to peak third-up. The anticipated genuine tempo will suit the Kris Lees trained galloper who excels in high-pressure races, and Jason Collett rides for the first time.

Dangers: 3. Wild Irish Rover is at optimal fitness and is on an upwards ratings spiral this prep. The gelding must step out to 1600m for the first time, but he finds a winnable race and is in career-best form. 7. Promise The Moon has a tricky gate but will look to have the last shot. 11. Every Effort is a knockout chance and 1. Spaltet gets blinkers on for the first time.

How to play it: Grecian Lass WIN ($5.50 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Grecian Lass runs fourth last start at Canterbury on January 6

Race 6 - 4:50PM CENTRAL COAST MARINERS PROVINCIAL 4YO & UP M (1100 M)

4. Noble Legend is ready to peak third-up here and gets key factors in his favour. The gelding was honest when resuming and ran third behind subsequent city winner Passeggiata. Additionally, he was solid last start after racing wide and never shirked his task to the line. The four-year-old is coming out of time/sectional merit races, receives a significant barrier change and repeating his last start figure will make him hard to beat.

Dangers: 7. Secret Spy missed the start on debut at Muswellbrook, but to his credit, he picked himself up and closed off well into third. Expect him to be ridden aggressively, and he will take some catching. 12. Michelle's Girl got too far back last start but ran strong closing splits and hit the line hard. Add 9. Alegna who will be fitter.

How to play it: Noble Legend WIN ($3.40 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Race 7 - 5:25PM RAILWAY HOTEL BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

4. Allusionist resumes and has recently trialled well in a fast time heat at Warwick Farm, running second. The gelding has a strong fresh record, and first-up last prep, he was only narrowly beaten in a similar grade when starting favourite. He will need some luck from the draw but looks wound up and ready to run well. Each-way.

Dangers: 1. Belladeel was solid first-up at this track and ran well. He will be fitter for that and has multiple winning figures. Knockout chance. Forget 3. Oryx's last start where he had post-race issues. He can bounce back and back to a drying surface does suit. 2. I'll Tell You Now was 44 days between runs last start and will have benefited immensely from that hit-out. 5. Diamond Hands will be running on hard.

How to play it: Allusionist E/W ($7.50 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.
