Gosford Winners - Tips For Thursday 6th July

By Nick Berney

Tips and race by race preview by Nick Berney for Thursday's Gosford meeting. Selections based on a soft track. Monitor for bias/pattern.

Race 1 - 12:50PM TAPERELL RUTLEDGE SOLICITORS MAIDEN (1000 METRES)

1. Getty brings a fitness and race experience edge relative to some of his key rivals. The gelding always faced the breeze at a genuine tempo last start and never shirked his task to the line to hold on for third. Further, that race rated well relative to the day and repeating that performance will put him in the finish. In addition, his career peak figure came on the rain-affected ground; he brings a solid SP profile and has strong form lines.

Dangers: Debutant 2. Bojangles was ridden to win a trial at Wyong, and barrier one will be an advantage for him to follow the rail. 11. Spring Lee will need luck from the draw but can improve and add 8. Starmae, who is coming out of a proven form reference.

How to play it: Getty WIN ($3.60 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: ODDS.

Getty runs third at Gosford on June 22

Race 2 - 1:25PM GOSFORD IT MIDWAY 3YO&UP MAIDEN HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

Leaning towards debutant 1. Cool Duke who showed speed and won a recent trial at Canterbury on soft ground. Further, the gelding trialled well enough and went through the line not extended. He must contend with a tricky draw, but with the anticipated moderate tempo, he can roll forward and be hard to catch.

Dangers: 8. Beatlemania looks wound up for this assignment first-up and is coming out of the in-form Mark Minervini stable. She can settle into a favourable position from the inside draw, and the rain-affected ground is ideal. Forgiving of 4. Tears For Fears first start at Kembla, where she was specked late in the trade. Moreover, she was always out on a limb and didn't handle the turn. She will have benefited from the race experience, and expect her to improve significantly. 3. Champ De Mars will be fitter.

How to play it: Cool Duke WIN ($3.70 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Cool Duke wins a trial at Canterbury on June 26

Race 3 - 2:05PM SNEDDON BROS MAIDEN PLATE (1200 METRES)

1. I Stole It profiles well for this event and is ready to peak third-up. The three-year-old was run to suit last start, but he ran on hard to finish second and clocked one of the meeting's fastest last 200m splits. Moreover, that race rated highly relative to the day, and he can improve again by stepping up in the distance. The Ron Quinton trained galloper maps to have all favours bring the best last start figure and will be hard to hold out with even luck.

Dangers: 7. Nanshe raced well in her first preparation after having excuses and resumes here after two solid trials. The three-year-old wasn't extended in her recent heat and went through the line full of energy. She has a tricky draw but will be savaging the line. Market watch 4. Galactic Miss who resumes and brings strong form lines. 6. Little Baia is consistent and will roll forward.

How to play it: I Stole It WIN ($3.90 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: ODDS.

I Stole It runs second at Gosford on June 22

Race 4 - 2:40PM TANTI FINANCIAL SERVICES CLASS 1 HCP (1200 METRES)

9. See You Again's run had hidden sectional merit at Kembla Grange 19 days ago relative to his finishing position, and the form out of that race has since been proven with a subsequent winner. The Paul Perry trained galloper got too far back throughout transit in an even tempo but built through his gears well and clocked the meeting's fastest final 200m split. He can settle closer with the smaller field suiting, and he produces all his peak figures on rain-affected ground. The gelding will need luck, but he is ready to win fourth-up and represents value. Each-way.

Dangers: 1. Lika Sun is a consistent type and ran time when winning at Newcastle last start. She brings a fitness edge relative to some of her key rivals and has a turn of foot. 2. Du Jour Idea resumes and brings strong form lines to this event, just some query with his wet track form. 7. Misty Dreams finally broke through for her maiden win and has barrier one here. Market watch on 3. Never Sorry who returns after 122 days.

How to play it: See You Again E/W ($4.00 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: ODDS.

See You Again last start at Kembla Grange on June 17

Race 5 - 3:15PM INDUSTREE GROUP CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

1. Time To Boogie resumed at this track/distance 14 days ago and was given no peace throughout. Further, he accelerated and looked like the winner for most of the straight before being swamped by Amnesty, who has subsequently run well in Saturday grade. He will undoubtedly be fitter for that effort, has a strong SP profile and will take some catching with the rail out three metres.

Dangers: 6. Ringdembells was wide, albeit with cover, and she ran on well. She receives a significant barrier change and can stalk the leaders from the inside draw. 2. Chipper had all favours last start at this track and held on for third. He will be at optimal fitness now and back to 1000m suits. 5. Accredited savaged the line to score on debut at Nowra and 4. Sinner is on a quick backup.

How to play it: Time To Boogie WIN ($2.00 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Time To Boogie runs second at Gosford on June 22

Race 6 - 3:50PM CHRISTMAS IN JULY AT TEG CONDITIONAL BM 68 HCP (1200 METRES)

9. Obvious Step, who represents value, is coming out of time/sectional merit races, and she has multiple winning figures for this event. She will need luck but has previously won at this track/distance.

Dangers: 2. Smooth Flight brings the superior form lines through the metropolitan level and will roll forward. 4. Almahero can sprint fresh and add 10. Bubbles For Me to trifectas and first fours.

How to play it: Obvious Step WIN ($5.00 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Obvious Step last start at Newcastle on June 24

Race 7 - 4:25PM MCGRATH CENTRAL COAST BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

7. Smart As Smart's last start win at this track/distance 14 days ago was full of merit after being heavily backed late in the trade. The three-year-old had multiple factors against him; he wasn't suited to the race shape and had to make two runs whilst making a long-wide sustained sprint with nothing to bring him into the race. Further, to his credit, he savaged the line and clocked one of the fastest final 200m splits of the meeting. The Ron Quinton trained gallopers ratings/sectional profile suggests he can improve again, and expect him to be hard to hold out.

Dangers: 8. Tupou is the last-start winner and receives a significant barrier change. He can settle closer and deserves his chance over 1600m. Add 13. Eve 'N' Ruby who can rate to win and add 4. Zambrero to trifectas and first fours.

How to play it: Smart As Smart WIN ($4.40 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Smart As Smart wins at Gosford on June 22

Best Bet: Race 7 # 7 - Smart As Smart

Next Best: Race 3 # 1 - I Stole It
