Gary Harley's Late Mail For Wyong (Saturday)

Gary Harley

Kris Lees - a clear fifth in the Australian Trainers' Premiership with more than 180 winners for the season - will saddle up eight of his team at this Saturday’s Wyong meeting. The best of Lees's numbers could be the two-year-old filly Time and Again in race 3 (Just Conveyors 2YO Maiden, 1200m). This filly was a close second to the smart Trumbull on debut on this track on June 26 and the extra 100m on Saturday is ideal. Unbridled Power, Weigela, Progression and Mr Tindall are other Lees runners expected to race well.

RACE 1 (K2 CONCRETE CONSTRUCTIONS MAIDEN PLATE, 1350M): Elementae is knocking on the door after two runs from a spell. He was only beaten two lengths first-up at Hawkesbury and last start was runner-up to a smart one in Oakfield Missile at Newcastle. China Gale resumes on the back of two trials and is an each-way chance.
SELECTIONS: 3 ELEMENTAE, 5 WAIHEKE, 1 CHINA GALE

RACE 2 (CURE BRAIN CANCER-DIPG AWARENESS MAIDEN PLATE, 2100M): Night Breaker has his hoof on the till after two creditable placings this time in. He came from near last to go down by half a length at Hawkesbury over 1600m. Last start he was a solid third over 1900m at Gosford behind two stablemates. Lake Hayes has been placed in her two starts at Newcastle and Hawkesbury and the longer trips suits. Whitney’s Star is backing up after a failure at Newcastle on Tuesday where she pulled herself into the ground.
SELECTIONS: 3 NIGHT BREAKER, 5 LAKE HAYES, 7 WHITNEY’S STAR

RACE 3 (JUST CONVEYORS 2YO MAIDEN HANDICAP, 1200M): Time and Again went well on debut when a close second to Trumbull on this track on June 26. The filly trailed well before that run and second-up she will appreciate the 1200m. Dream Child was placed at Rosehill and Warwick Farm in April and she wasn’t comfortable on the heavy track last start. Kapajack won a recent Rosehill trial.
SELECTIONS: 7 TIME AND AGAIN, 6 DREAM CHILD, 2 KAPAJACK

RACE 4 (KEVIN R SHEATHER CLASS 2 HANDICAP, 1350M): Unbridled Power will be hard to beat here after going down by a head in a similar race on this track on June 26. Love Shack Baby resumes and he has a good record. He bolted in at the Wagga Carnival in May and hasn’t raced since. Loveletter was less than half a length behind Unbridled Power last start.
SELECTIONS: 4 UNBRIDLED POWER, 2 LOVE SHACK BABY, 3 LOVELETTER

RACE 5 (THE DREW CHIVAS MEMORIAL MAIDEN HANDICAP, 1100M): Weigela is on debut after a four-length Cessnock trial win. He was very impressive in the trial and Reith rides. Stablemate Rothman was placed behind a Group 3 placegetter on debut at Newcastle recently and this is a huge drop in class. Cosimo was beaten half a length last start on this track and he has a chance.
SELECTIONS: 5 WEIGELA, 3 ROTHMAN, 4 COSIMO

RACE 6 (RYAN’S METAL ROOFING CLASS 1 HANDICAP, 1000M): Trumbull has a boom on him and he looked good in a first-up win on this track on June 26. This is a stronger field but he has drawn well. In three barrier trials and two rare starts he has only been beaten once. Crimson Ticket resumes and is a recent Randwick trial runner. She did beat Resin in her last start at Gosford in February. Progression races well on this track and she has the rails barrier.
SELECTIONS: 6 TRUMBULL, 2 CRIMSON TICKET, 3 PROGRESSION

RACE 7 (CITRUS CLEAN BENCHMARK 67, 1600M): Falcon Island was run down late at Hawkesbury last start and this is a winnable race. He is a front-runner and now that he has struck form he will be hard to run down. Soviet bolted in at Goulburn last start and he has led in his past five starts. Wongur has a place chance.
SELECTIONS: 2 FALCON ISLAND, 3 SOVIET, 5 WONGUR

RACE 8 (CLEAN N CARE CLASS 2 HANDICAP, 1200M): Lady I Am’s two runs this time in have been full of merit and she is ready to win. She was beaten a length in a stronger race than this at Newcastle on June 23. She finished fourth at Canterbury last week. The filly has a lovely barrier and Chad Lever rides. Picardy Rose is first-up after a recent Rosehill trial win and she has a chance. Mr Tindall has been placed in his last four starts and is an each-way hope.
SELECTIONS: 6 LADY I AM, 3 PICARDY ROSE, 2 MR TINDALL
