Gary Harley's Last Word (Wyong, Tuesday)

By Gary Harley

Former Kiwi three-year-old Bombarding - a brilliant winner in his Australian debut on this track on June 7 - is set for a repeat performance at Wyong’s race meeting on Tuesday. The gelding arrived in this country with a record of one win and six placings from 16 starts.

He entered the David Pfieffer stable earlier this year and after an impressive barrier trial performance in good company, Bombarding was backed as if unbeatable on this track on June 7. On a heavy 8 track he was supported in from $2.10 into $1.70 and Corey Brown let him rip from the outset after setting a sizzling pace.

Bombarding led by three lengths on the home turn and he was eased down by Brown to win by 1¾-lengths. He faces a class rise on Tuesday but he will carry 2kg less than last start.

RACE 1 (CENTRAL COAST BULLDOGS MASTERS MAIDEN PLATE, 1100M): Royal Witness led on the soft track when beaten three lengths in a stronger field than this at Canterbury last start. He was only 2.3 lengths behind Zousain at Randwick in February. The blinkers come off and the tongue tie goes on. Mandalong Nicko has been placed in his past four starts and he normally leads. Cosimo is capable of improvement.
SELECTIONS: 7 ROYAL WITNESS, 3 MANDALONG NICKO, 6 COSIMO

RACE 2 (HUCKEL EXCAVATIONS 3YO & UP MAIDEN PLATE, 1300M): Resonare is ready to win after finishing a length from the winner at Kembla last start. He is building up to a win and he has the rails barrier in a race that is wide open. Dancing Phryne is knocking on the door with four placings from her past five starts and she is drawn to have a nice trail. Monsieur Bronx is trialling okay.
SELECTIONS: 3 RESONARE, 6 DANCING PHRYNE, 2 MONSIEUR BRONX

RACE 3 (POTTERS FLOORING 2YO MAIDEN, 1300M): Skyray will be much fitter for his first-up run when well beaten into second place at Gosford recently. He was runner-up to the smart Jonker in the Wyong Magic Millions in December. The blinkers go on and he should be too classy. Fun Fact was close up in two Canterbury starts last prep and he was narrowly beaten in a recent trial. Mr Costigan was heavily backed when a close fourth on this track on June 7 and he will appreciate the longer trip.
SELECTIONS: 1 SKYRAY, 5 FUN FACT, 8 MR COSTIGAN

RACE 4 (CASANOVA OYSTERS & SEAFOOD MAIDEN, 1100M): Trumbull resumes after an encouraging placing behind the smart Stunts on debut on this track in March. The gelding bolted in with a recent Wyong trial and after the claim he carries the limit weight of 54kg. Time And Again debuts after an easy Scone trial win and she is in a good stable. Danzibar Dancer is racing well and has a chance.
SELECTIONS: 4 TRUMBULL, 8 TIME AND AGAIN, 5 DANZIBAR DANCER

RACE 5 (KERNICK LAW CLASS 1, 1600M): Greenspan has his foot on the till following seconds in his past two starts. He is an on-pacer ready to produce his best third-up. Last prep he raced well behind Savacool and Dark Dream. Rubino Veloce bolted in with a Gosford maiden last start and this is tougher but he has a chance. Triumph Star has been placed in his past two starts and he has a soft draw.
SELECTIONS: 1 GREENSPAN, 2 RUBINO VELOCE, 3 TRIUMPH STAR

RACE 6 (GO ELECTRICAL CLASS 2, 1100M): Bombarding could not have been more impressive than he was winning his first Australian start on this track recently. He led throughout and was eased down to win easily on the heavy track. He is up class but carries a lighter weight and should win again. Squaw Peak was run down late at Gosford first-up and he will go forward and give a good sight. Kissing Game had good metropolitan form last prep and she won a recent trial.
SELECTIONS: 2 BOMBARDING, 6 SQUAW PEAK, 5 KISSING GAME

RACE 7 (GIVE ME 5 FOR KIDS CHARITY CUP BENCHMARK 66, 1350M): Final Frontier is unbeaten in two starts on this track and despite a 4kg rise in weight he is still the one to beat. Tim Clark has ridden the gelding twice for two wins and is on board again. Clifton County has a win and three placings from his past five starts and he wasn’t far away from Final Frontier last start. Broom Broom was an easy Hawkesbury Maiden winner last start and he was narrowly beaten in his only other start 18 months ago.
SELECTIONS: 3 FINAL FRONTIER, 9 CLIFTON COUNTY, 6 BROOM BROOM

RACE 8 (XMAS IN JULY SATURDAY 14TH BENCHMARK 65, 1350M): Wide Spread Panic bolted in second up on the Kensington track on a soft track on June 11. The filly has 61½kg but she has a win and two seconds from four starts. She is expected to lead this field from the favourable barrier. Mollyfied is struggling to regain her good form of last prep but she has a good record on this track. Miss Faith loves a wet track and her last run was okay.
SELECTIONS: 1 WIDE SPREAD PANIC, 4 MOLLYFIED, 7 MISS FAITH
