Former European Stayer Ready To Score At Wyong (Thurs)

By Gary Harley

European stayer Alakahan ($1.85 favourite on TAB) lines up for his third Australian start at the Wyong meeting on Thursday and he is ready to win. The four-year-old will contest the De Bortoli Wines Class 1 & Maiden Plate (2100m) and he is well placed under the set weight conditions.

The Freedman Brothers-trained gelding only had two starts in Ireland where he was runner-up over 2112m more than a year ago. First-up at Kembla on April 20 Alakahan found the 1600m too short when a solid fourth. Second-up he went to Newcastle over 1850m and he ran on strongly when runner-up to Clever Man. He is crying out for 2100m and has a soft draw.

Chris Waller's filly Rules Don’t Apply ($2 fav) looks a good thing in the opening event, the Royal Hotel Maiden Handicap (1600m) She was placed at Canterbury Park, Warwick Farm and Kembla Grange in her first preparation. The filly will be fitter for her first-up fourth on the Kensington Track on June 3.

Tapiconic ($6.50) had no luck last start at Newcastle and he can atone in the final event, the Wyong’s Next Race Day Saturday July 11 Benchmark 64 Handicap (1350m)

RACE 1 (ROYAL HOTEL WYONG MAIDEN HANDICAP, 1600M): Rules Don’t Apply ($2 fav) is a standout here after one run back from a spell. Last prep, the filly was placed at Canterbury, Warwick Farm and Kembla. She finished fourth first-up on the Kensington Track and this trip is more suitable. Our Cheeky Monkey ($4) is never far away and Past Tense ($4) has a place chance.
SELECTIONS: 2 RULES DON’T APPLY, 7 OUR CHEEKY MONKEY, 3 PAST TENSE

RACE 2 (THE DOYLO MAIDEN PLATE, 1350M): Pitchfork ($1.85 fav) is ready to win after two close placings this prep. He was only beaten a head last start in a much stronger race on the Kensington Track and went down by half a length first-up at Kembla. The 3yo has been placed on this track. Sebourg ($4.20) was narrowly beaten here in January and was only beaten two lengths first-up at Kembla. Delector ($4.20) won a recent trial and raced well last prep.
SELECTIONS: 3 PITCHFORK, 4 SEBOURG, 7 DELECTOR

RACE 3 (GREAT NORTHERN MAIDEN PLATE, 1600M): Coat Of Arms ($3.30 fav) was narrowly beaten by Meadow Land at Newcastle May 26 and the winner was a close second at Rosehill last Saturday. He was trapped wide when unplaced at Newcastle last start - has drawn wide but is speedy. Giselle Anne ($6.50) was beaten less than a length when second on this track last start and she has the rails barrier. Kennebec ($5.50) is trialling well and has drawn nicely.
SELECTIONS: 10 COAT OF ARMS, 7 GISELLE ANNE, 8 KENNEBEC

RACE 4 (DE BORTOLI WINES CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE, 2100M): Alakahan ($1.85 fav) is a promising stayer from Europe and he is ready to win in his third Australian start. He put the writing on the wall with a strong finishing second over 1850m at Newcastle last start and he is crying out for this trip. Mick An’ Nicks ($4.40) is racing well and has an each-way chance while Arabolini ($4.80) was placed in a strong race at Newcastle.
SELECTIONS: 4 ALAKAHAN, 7 MICK AN’ NICK, 1 ARABOLINI

RACE 5 (WYONG RUGBY LEAGUE CLUB CLASS 2, 1100M): Archery Butts ($4.20) resumed from an 11-month lay off when he led all the way at Gosford on May 28. He is very fast and will be fitter. Spaceboy ($3 fav) is in very good form with an easy win at Kembla on May 7 then a head second on the Kensington Track and a fourth at Warwick Farm. Al Snip ($4.60) resumes after a good first prep.
SELECTIONS: 5 ARCHERY BUTTS, 1 SPACEBOY, 6 AL SNIP

RACE 6 (BISHOP COLLINS CHARTERED ACCOUNTANTS B/M 64, 1600M): Red Hot Chillypins ($10) wasn’t far away over an unsuitable trip on this track last start. She was a winner over 2100m on this track on April 9 and that win followed seconds at Newcastle and Kembla. April Thunder ($4.60 fav) ran on well to win over this trip on this track on June 4 and she will be hard to beat. Salsa Man ($5.50) runs his best races here and he will be running on.
SELECTIONS: 7 RED HOT CHILLYPINS, 6 APRIL THUNDER, 3 SALSA MAN

RACE 7 (WYONG’S NEXT RACEDAY SATURDAY JULY 11 B/M 64, 1350M): Tapiconic ($6.50) had no luck at Newcastle last start. He has raced well on this track and he has a soft draw and Tommy Berry aboard. The 1350m is ideal and he won't be far off the pace. Ondo Pasa ($13) loves this track and she won here last start. Rabbit Clause ($6.50) ran on well first-up and will appreciate the longer trip.
SELECTIONS: 7 TAPICONIC, 1 ONDO PASA, 6 RABBIT CLAUSE
