Nathan Doyle's Trio Look Tough To Beat At Wyong (Thursday)

By Gary Harley

Newcastle trainer Nathan Doyle heads to Thursday's Wyong race meeting with three live chances.

Doyle’s stable has been firing this season with 51 winners in NSW and his three Wyong runners are Counter Move, Amberina and Edge of Reward.

Counter Move ($1.90 favourite on TAB) is a speedy mare resuming in the Club Terrigal Midway Maiden Plate (1100m) in which she is an odds-on favourite in early markets.

The four-year-old debuted in a Hawkesbury maiden in October and led before being run down to finish third.

In her only other start in November the mare was runner-up at Hawkesbury 0.11 of a length from the winner after leading.

In a recent trial on the Beaumont Track, Counter Move blew her opposition away with blistering speed winning by 2.33 lengths. She has drawn perfectly and Koby Jennings has the mount.

Amberina ($3.80) was formerly trained by Mark Newnham and was unplaced in six starts. On Thursday she contests the Ettalong Diggers Maiden Handicap (1100m).

After joining the Doyle stable, the filly won a Gosford trial by 3.92 lengths on May 26.

On debut for Doyle at Newcastle on June 3 the daughter of Lonhro was very slowly away and was second last settling.

She made a long run from the 800m and was only two lengths from the winner at the finish. Amberina has drawn nicely on Thursday and leading apprentice Dylan Gibbons rides the filly.

Edge of Reward ($5 fav) will run in the Bella Group Benchmark 64 Handicap (1350m) after a solid performance first up.

He had the run of the race first-up but tired when two lengths from the winner. Edge of Reward has only had the one win and seven placings from 11 starts.

The 4yo will be fitter and from barrier one he should enjoy a cosy run.

The David Pfieffer-trained Angel Fund ($2.90 fav), an impressive first-up winner at Gosford on May 25, can win again when she steps out in the Munmorah United Bowling Club Class 1 Handicap (1100m).

The filly was an odds-on favourite when a close third at Newcastle in December. She resumed in a Gosford maiden on May 25 and came from second last to win running away.

Angel Fund will appreciate the longer trip and Jason Collett will ride once again.

Highway Patrol ($2.30 fav), unbeaten in two trials, is on debut in the Wyong Leagues Group Maiden Plate (1350m). He is a speedy 3yo and has won both trials easily.
