Collett's Purple Patch To Continue At Wyong (Tuesday)

By John Schell

Jason Collett’s winning form is set to continue at Wyong on Tuesday with a small but select book of rides awaiting the jockey.

Collett scored a feature double at Royal Randwick on Saturday when Semana and Kimochi both won and he links with trainers Annabel Neasham and Ciaron Maher at Wyong.

Summer Soiree will be Collett’s ride for Neasham in the Insurance House F&M Maiden Handicap (1100m), while he will partner Never Joking in the Commsys C,G&E Maiden Handicap (1100m) and Paruna in the Levelmaster Maiden Plate (1300m) for Maher.

Summer Soiree is on debut and has had two trials to prepare, winning the latest of them at Randwick.

Never Joking is first-up from a spell having made his debut at Pakenham last May when finishing fifth. He’s run second in a recent Gosford trial in preparation for his return to racing.

Collett rode Paruna in its only start when it finished fourth on the Kensington track at Randwick last month.

“He ran well in that race,” said Collett. “He led them up and fought on pretty well to be only beaten a couple of lengths.

“He should have derived benefit from the experience and I’d expect him to run very well at Wyong.”

The Gerald Ryan & Sterling Alexiou training partnership will have a few interesting runners going around at Wyong, starting with Lady Doris, which lines up against Summer Soiree.

Lady Doris debuted at Goulburn with a solid second when hitting the line well, and Kerrin McEvoy takes the ride at Wyong.

Nibidano, also to be ridden by McEvoy, will line up in Never Joking’s event, and is resuming from a lengthy spell.

Nibidano had its only start in November of 2022 and finished ninth at Hawkesbury in that event.

He had a couple of trials in January and March of last year but never made it to the races, and has since returned to the stables and had a further two trials this year to prepare for his return to racing.

Ryan and Alexiou will round out the day when last start winner Azayaka contests the Mechpro Solutions Au Benchmark 64 Handicap (1100m) with Zac Wadick to ride.
