Bright Prospects For Widdup's Hawkesbury Trio (Tues)

By John Schell

Local trainer Brad Widdup will have three leading chances set to contest races at Hawkesbury on Tuesday.

Widdup, who went close to feature race success in Brisbane last Saturday when Ausbred Flirt finished second in the Dane Ripper Stakes, will begin the day at Hawkesbury when two-year-old Hyperbolic ($11 on TAB) debuts in the Fowler Civil Contracting Maiden Plate (1100m).

“She looks to be a filly with a bit of potential,” said Widdup.

“She’s had two trials in preparation for her first start, and she looked pretty good winning the latest of them at Hawkesbury.

“Tyler Schiller will ride her and it looks a nice race for her to kick off her career.”

Widdup will have last start Wyong winner Guzumped ($5) contesting the Lander Toyota Benchmark 64 Handicap, with Zac Wadick taking the ride.

Guzumped settled back in the field in the last start effort at Wyong, but once clear he powered to the line to score an emphatic victory.

“He looks suited by the step up to the 2000m on Tuesday,” said Widdup. “He has plenty of upside, and is building up a good record with two wins and four placings from just the nine starts.”

Widdup will round out the day when he again combines with Wadick when the jockey partners Troika ($15) in the Clarendon Tavern Benchmark 64 Handicap (1100m).

“Troika won well at Hawkesbury earlier in the year and he resumes from a spell here,” said Widdup. “He’s had a couple of solid trials in preparation and while he’s drawn wide, he is ready to run well.”

Top jockey Kerrin McEvoy will make the trip to Hawkesbury, with a number of top rides awaiting the hoop. He will start the day when legged aboard Waterski ($2.80 favourite) for James Cummings and Godolphin in the HRC Motel 3YO Maiden Plate (1000m).

His remaining rides are Cheergal ($2.70 fav) for Annabel Neasham in the Workers Lifestyle Group Maiden Handicap (1500m), Fifth Force ($3.90) for Matthew Smith in the XXXX Gold Class 1 Handicap (1600m), Vicuna ($41) for Claire Lever in the Pioneer Services Provincial Maiden Handicap (1300m), and Inquisitive Legend ($2.90 fav) for Lee and Cherie Curtis in the Blakes Marine Midway Class 1 Handicap (1300m).
