Alysha Collett The One To Follow At Wyong (Sat)

By Gary Harley

New Zealand jockey Alysha Collett has five mounts at Saturday's Wyong race meeting and three of her five will be well-fancied. The talented Kiwi’s best ride is the Anthony Cummings-trained filly Honey Go Lightly in race 2, the 1100m De Bortoli Wines Maiden Plate.

The filly has been knocking on the door with three creditable performances this preparation. First-up at Gosford on May 28 she was placed in a strong maiden on a heavy track. Second-up she was runner-up in a Canterbury maiden on a heavy 10.

Last start at Newcastle, Honey Go Lightly was only two lengths from the winner on a good 4 on June 27. This is the easiest race she has contested this time in. Collett’s mount in the opening event, the Welcome Back Members Maiden Plate (2100m), Librarian has a good chance. He was beaten a head at Kembla last start.

Sanctioned resumes in the final event, the Wyong’s Next Raceday July 21 Class 2 Handicap (1200m) with Collett aboard. On old form, he is the class runner but his form tapered off at the end of last prep.

RACE 1 (WELCOME BACK WYONG MEMBERS MAIDEN PLATE, 2100M): Past Tense appreciated the longer trip when he ran on from way back to finish second over 1900m at Gosford last start. The 2100m trip should not be a problem. Librarian was narrowly beaten over 2000m at Kembla last start and he will run well. Ausbred L’or has a place chance.
SELECTIONS: 4 PAST TENSE, 3 LIBRARIAN, 7 AUSBRED L’OR

RACE 2 (DE BORTOLI WINES MAIDEN 1000M): Honey Go Lightly is knocking on the door with three creditable performances this prep. She has been placed in two of three starts at Gosford and Canterbury in recent starts. She has a soft draw and won’t be far off the pace. Private Eye is on debut after a recent Wyong barrier trial win and War Weapon trialled okay.
SELECTIONS: 1 HONEY GO LIGHTLY, 2 PRIVATE EYE, 4 WAR WEAPON

RACE 3 (COCA-COLA MAIDEN PLATE, 1350M): Kiss And Tell has his foot on the till with two good runner-up performances recently. He was beaten a length in a quality maiden at Newcastle last start and was only beaten a half-length at Gosford two starts back. Aeecee Beau was found wanting first-up but he had outstanding form last prep. Ultimate Thinker has a place chance.
SELECTIONS: 6 KISS AND TELL, 1 AEECEE BEAU, 7 ULTIMATE THINKER

RACE 4 (CARLTON DRY CLASS 1 HANDICAP, 1600M): Sarah Elizabeth drops in class here and her last run at Newcastle was her best for some time. She is on her home track and the 1600m is ideal. Mission Dream is racing okay in much better company and his placing at Gosford two starts back was full of merit. Elder Price bolted in at Newcastle last start.
SELECTIONS: 5 SARAH ELIZABETH, 1 MISSION DREAM, 2 ELDER PRICE

RACE 5 (DREW CHIVAS MEMORIAL 2YO MAIDEN, 1350M): Honored Vow knocked up when beaten 4 lengths at Canterbury on debut three weeks ago. She was in second place at the top of the straight and she will be fitter this time. That run was on a heavy 9 and a firmer track would be ideal. Castlecomer was placed first-up at Canterbury and last prep he raced in Group company. Urban Warrior was scratched at Newcastle on Tuesday to run here and he has a chance.
SELECTIONS: 8 HONORED VOW, 1 CASTLECOMER, 4 URBAN WARRIOR

RACE 6 (JIM BEAM BENCHMARK 64, 1350M): Westlink went really well first-up at Scone when two lengths behind the smart Burning Crown. He has won second-up and the step up in distance is suitable. He has drawn well and on his best form he is the class runner. Buzz was an easy winner on this track and he is a front runner. Fantasy Eagle is an up and comer with a good record.
SELECTIONS: 1 WESTLINK, 2 BUZZ, 4 FANTASY EAGLE

RACE 7 (OFF THE TRACK NSW CLASS 1 HANDICAP, 1000M): Escaped beat the Ramornie Handicap winner Signore Fox in a recent barrier trial. He was beaten less than 4 lengths by Dawn Passage in the Rosebud 11 months ago. He has speed to burn. Key Largo failed on a heavy track at Randwick last start, however, his previous form was good. Stargirl won well on debut at Kembla.
SELECTIONS: 1 ESCAPED, 2 KEY LARGO, 4 STARGIRL

RACE 8 (WYONG’S NEXT RACEDAY JULY 21 CLASS 2, 1200M): Lexi’s Choice is in good form with a Newcastle win and placing in both starts this prep. She is a winner at Wyong but needs luck from a wide barrier. Crimlet has a good chance from the rails barrier and has a claim. Sanctioned resumes and at his top can win.
SELECTIONS: 7 LEXI’S CHOICE, 2 CRIMLET, 1 SANCTIONED
