Garrison ($3.30 on TAB), an I Am Invincible three-year-old in the Snowden stable, has bright prospects of breaking through in his sixth start at Friday's Wyong race meeting. He will contest the 1100m Coca-Cola Maiden Plate with Brenton Avdulla aboard.
Garrison made his debut in a 2yo Warwick Farm maiden in March 2019 when beaten a half-length by Cardiff. He did not race again for nine months and when he resumed in December 2019, he wasn’t far away from Rover in a Rosehill maiden.
After two more disappointing runs, Garrison was spelled and he won a Randwick barrier trial by 5½ lengths. He started favourite when trapped three-wide with no cover first-up at Newcastle on June 20, tiring to finish 5th (2½ lengths) and hasn’t raced since.
RACE 1, DE BORTOLI WINES MAIDEN HANDICAP, 1600M: Malfy ($1.85 favourite) was only beaten a length on a heavy track on debut at Hawkesbury on July 12. That run was over 1300m and the filly steps up to the more suitable 1600m here with the apprentice's claim, comes in well at the weights. Mexican Standoff ($10) drops in class and Halevi ($5.50) was narrowly beaten at Goulburn last start.
SELECTIONS: 1 MALFY, 8 MEXICAN STANDOFF, 6 HALEVI
RACE 2, GREAT NORTHERN ON TAP MAIDEN HANDICAP, 1350M: Haunting Spirit ($3.10 fav) has had four starts on this track for three seconds. His two runs this prep have only been fair but he steps up to a more suitable trip. He won’t be far off the speed. Grafton mare Anamagic ($3.90) was run down late at Port Macquarie last start and Badge Of Honour ($18) has a place chance.
SELECTIONS: 4 HAUNTING SPIRIT, 1 ANAMAGIC, 2 BADGE OF HONOUR
RACE 3, NSW JOCKEYS ASSOCIATION 3YO MAIDEN PLATE, 1350M: Sweeping Brook ($1.70 fav) has been narrowly beaten in his only two starts at Kembla recently. He was run down and beaten a head on a Soft 5 on July 9 and last Thursday he was again nailed late going down by a head. Country apprentice Tyler Schiller claims 3kg and he rode him in both Kembla starts. Dizzy Dawn ($6.50) was a close fourth at Gosford before a spell and Happy Babe ($5.50) can improve.
SELECTIONS: 7 SWEEPING BROOK, 9 DIZZY DAWN, 3 HAPPY BABE
RACE 4, COCA-COLA MAIDEN PLATE, 1100M: Garrison ($3.30) has had his races well-spaced and this is his chance to break through after an easy 5½ length Randwick barrier trial win in May. He was trapped three-wide with no cover at Newcastle on June 20. He hasn’t raced for six weeks but Avdulla rides and he has trialled well on wet tracks. Eye See Things ($1.90 fav) has very good metropolitan form and is the main threat, while Enamour ($8) can run a place from the rails barrier.
SELECTIONS: 2 GARRISON, 9 EYE SEE THINGS, 8 ENAMOURE
RACE 5, HAPPY 50TH MICHELLE CLASS 1 HANDICAP, 1200M: My Rose My Kingdom ($5) was very impressive in an easy maiden win on this track 10 days ago. She was let run and bolted in by more than three lengths. The filly meets a stronger field but has drawn well and again has the claim. Belitsa ($3.70) was much better last start and A Fortunate Lass ($3.60 fav) was unlucky at Scone last start.
SELECTIONS: 5 MY ROSE MY KINGDOM, 4 BELITSA, 3 A FORTUNATE LASS
RACE 6, TAB.COM.AU BENCHMARK 64 HANDICAP, 1350M: Al Snip ($2.80 fav) after two close seconds will wear blinkers for the first time. She is ultra-consistent with a win and six placings from seven starts. The filly loomed to win her past two starts at Wyong and Newcastle but didn’t get past the winners. Senior jockeys have been riding her but apprentice Tom Sherry will claim 1½kgs. Buzz ($9) led all the way to win here on June 18 and hasn’t raced since while Luga Lad ($13) was stiff last start.
SELECTIONS: 2 AL SNIP, 1 BUZZ, 4 LUGA LAD
RACE 7, JOCKEYS CELEBRATION DAY B/M 64, 1100M: Tallis ($3.60 fav) has been racing well in TAB Highways on metropolitan tracks this preparation. He led all the way to win a Highway on the Kensington Track last start and two starts back he was beaten a length in a Randwick Highway. Ladies' Gem ($10) has a good record on the track with two wins and four placings from nine starts. Our Bellagio Miss ($6) has two wins from her past three starts on wet tracks.
SELECTIONS: 3 TALLIS, 5 LADIES' GEM, 7 OUR BELLAGIO MISS
RACE 8, WYONG’S NEXT RACEDAY AUGUST 30 B/M 70, 1600M: Call Me Mo ($12) is well placed here and he put the writing on the wall when a fast-finishing second at Newcastle over 1900m. He runs a strong mile and has raced well on soft tracks; draws well and Robbie Dolan rides. Just Society ($4.60) led all the way at Newcastle last start and he has a chance while Vienna Rain ($4.40 fav) was an easy winner on the track last meeting.
SELECTIONS: 6 CALL ME MO, 4 JUST SOCIETY, 5 VIENNA RAIN
