Waugh Import Should Join Winner's Circle At Wyong (Friday)

By Gary Harley

Kim Waugh’s English import Succendam ($1.90 favourite on TAB fixed odds) should break through in his second Australian start when he steps out in the Rapid Clean Central Coast Maiden Handicap (1600m) at Wyong on Friday.

The three-year-old was unraced when he arrived at Waugh’s Wyong stables last year and after a Gosford trial in December, he went for a spell.

Succendam, on the back of trials at Newcastle and Gosford, debuted in a Scone 1300 metre Maiden on July 22.

He settled better than midfield with a nice trial but he was held up in the early part of the straight.

Once in the clear it took him a while to warm up before he attacked the line. Succendam is crying out for the 1600 metres and Brenton Avdulla has the mount.

RACE 1, DE BORTOLI 4YO & UP MAIDEN, 1100M: Splendid Surprise ($1.85 fav) has put the writing on the wall with metropolitan placings in his only two starts. He struck a heavy 10 track when narrowly beaten on the Kensington track on June 26 then he pulled up lame when placed at Warwick Farm on July 17. He is an on-pacer and is well placed in this field. Super Pins ($3.60) has been a beaten favourite in all three starts but is capable of forward showing here. Princess Siri ($11) has a place chance.
SELECTIONS: 5 SPLENDID SURPRISE, 6 SUPER PINS, 7 PRINCESS SIRI

RACE 2, CARLTON DRAUGHT 3YO MAIDEN, 1350M: My Sweet Fish ($3.50) has her chance to break through after finishing close up in her past two starts. She was beaten a length here last start after being caught wide with no cover. Antarctic Ocean ($7.50) was a distant third on debut at Kembla recently and he will appreciate the longer trip. Kuzco Lad ($2.15 fav) has been placed in both starts.
SELECTIONS: 8 MY SWEET FISH, 1 ANTARCTIC OCEAN, 3 KUZCO LAD

RACE 3, H & H GROUP 4YO & UP MAIDEN, 1350M: Bold And Wild ($3.50) had no luck when beaten two lengths at Kembla first-up. He tried to buck after the start and he was then three-wide with no cover. The regally bred gelding has drawn ideal. Prospero ($2.30 fav) was placed at Kembla last start after attempting an all-the-way win. Monterey Lad ($3.70) had issues last start and has trialled okay since.
SELECTIONS: 2 BOLD AND WILD, 1 PROSPERO, 4 MONTEREY LAD

RACE 4, RAPID CLEAN CENTRAL COAST MAIDEN, 1600M: Succendam steps up to the 1600 metre trip after an eye-catching debut second at Scone recently. He found the 1300 metre trip too short at Scone but he savaged the line. War Deck ($2.80) has been thereabouts and he will appreciate the longer trip. Phylave ($8.50) hasn't been far away of late.
SELECTION: 1 SUCCENDAM, 2 WAR DECK, 8 PHYLAVE

RACE 5, FRESKO FRUIT CONDITIONAL B/M 70, 1600M: Mustafa ($5) was heavily backed when he led and was beaten 1¾ lengths at Gosford first-up recently. He will be fitter and Tommy Berry rides again. Hermosa Reward ($9.50) is ready to improve after two runs back and Positive Peace ($3.80 fav) was runner-up on this track last start.
SELECTIONS: 7 MUSTAFA, 5 HERMOSA REWARD, 4 POSITIVE PEACE

RACE 6, SOMERSBY GARDENS ESTATE CLASS 1, 1200M: Sangita ($4.60) resumes here after two creditable trials. He raced in Group company last prep and she is the class runner in this field. Segalas ($3.50 fav) has been trialling well and she was runner up at Warwick Farm before a spell. Islands ($7.50) bolted in at Kembla last start.
SELECTIONS: 2 SANGITA, 3 SEGALAS, 9 ISLANDS

RACE 7, H & H CATERING B/M 64 HANDICAP, 1100M: Johnny Roo Boy ($4.80) has genuine speed and he was nailed in the last few strides at Wyong last start. He appreciates a soft track and will be hard to run down. Venture Capital ($6.50) has trialled well since an unlucky placing at Scone and she is speedy. Sophiella ($2.80 fav) is first-up, likes a soft track and has trialled okay.
SELECTIONS: 5 JOHNNY ROO BOY, 8 VENTURE CAPITAL, 10 SOPHIELLA

RACE 8, GOLDFISH BAR & KITCHEN B/M64, 1350M: One Of The Kind ($8) is in good form and he races well on this track. He won well at Kembla last start and he has a 3 kilogram claim. He will have a cosy run from the rails barrier. The Outcast ($9.50) has won four on the trot and the claim is a positive. Little Steiny ($7) is never far away and was a last start winner on the track.
SELECTIONS: 7 ONE OF THE KIND, 1 THE OUTCAST, 3 LITTLE STEINY
