The Racing NSW Appeal Panel today heard the appeal of licensed jockey Rory Hutchings in respect of the decision of Racing NSW Stewards to suspend his licence to ride in races for a period of five weeks after he was found guilty of a charge under AR129(2) for having failed to take all reasonable and permissible measures to ensure that Thief By Night was given full opportunity to win or to obtain the best place in the field when it ran at Scone on 6 August 2023.
The Appeal Panel dismissed jockey Hutchings’ appeal against conviction, however, set aside the penalty handed down by Stewards and in lieu, varied the penalty to a two week suspension.
Accordingly, Rory Hutchings will be suspended for a period to commence on Sunday, 1 October 2023 and to expire on Sunday, 15 October 2023, on which day he may ride.
The Reasons for Decision of the Appeal Panel will be published when available.
