Warwick Farm Winners - Tips For Wednesday 8th February

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Wednesday’s Warwick Farm meeting. Selections based on a soft to heavy track.

Race 1 - 2:20PM XXXX PLATE (1300 METRES)

3. Robusto was disappointing as an odds-on favourite first-up at Canterbury but prepared to give him another chance with the run under his belt. Dam was a solid wet tracker so if that’s transferred to him some give in ground should suit. Chance to atone.

Dangers: 7. A Lot More Love made her deubt in the same race as Robusto and didn’t mind the way he found the line late while only beating one home. Again bred to handle a wet surface and could be an improver. 4. To His Credit showed significant improvement into his latest trial where he swept home down the outside to win over 1050m at Randwick. Form out of it hasn’t yet stacked up but if he takes that attitude to the races he can run well. 1. Affidavit trialled strongly prior to failing on debut on a heavy 10 at Rosehill. Beaten 14 lengths there so the assumption if he didn’t like the heavy. Recent trial was on the synthetic and if he gets an improving track he can show up.

How to play it: Robusto WIN ($2.25 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: ODDS.

Robusto runs third at Canterbury on January 28

Race 2 - 2:55PM VALE WARREN WOODCOCK (1200 METRES)

1. Baranof reacted to being gelded with a very handy second when resuming here two weeks ago, darting along the fence late behind Mars Mission. All placings so far have been on soft tracks and will definitely have that sort of surface again. Good chance to go one better.

Dangers: 10. Smart Little Miss just missed on debut in May then returned with an even effort when a big drifter at Canterbury a few weeks back. Has a wide gate but not such an issue if she can stay in touch. Definite chance. 13. Arbitration went back from a wide gate and finished on into second when resuming at Wyong as a well supported equal favourite. Wide gate again and a wet track but rather include than dismiss. 2. Kipsbay ran well behind Retrieval at Canterbury then off a freshen and a beaten favourite in Brisbane last time. Entitled to another chance.

How to play it: Baranof E/W ($7.00 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Baranof runs second at Warwick Farm on January 26

Race 3 - 3:30PM FIRST JUSTIFY YEARLINGS HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

3. Stick To Your Guns looked good rolling onto the speed and kicking away first-up over 1200m at this track. Beaten favourite last time at Kembla but has a similar set-up here to his fresh win and 2kg less than last time after the claim. Capable of bouncing back.

Dangers: 8. Akahata might be a good longshot second-up. Liked his first-up run at Gosford closing off late onto heels at the finish over 1200m. Probably wants an improving track but the extra ground suits and has each-way claims. 2. Benaud is a promising staying type resuming since a sixth in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes. Won on a soft track on debut at Nowra and similar ground here gives him the chance to be in the finish fresh. 9. Paternal was only warming up at the finish as he weaved through to win on debut over 1400m at Newcastle. Up in grade here but sure to be hitting the line strongly again.

How to play it: Stick To Your Guns WIN ($3.80 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Stick To Your Guns runs third at Kembla on January 22

Race 4 - 4:05PM HYLAND RACE COLOURS HANDICAP (2200 METRES)

6. Don Arcangelo can mix his form a bit as evidenced by his last couple. Closed off well at Canterbury last time beaten half a length and if he puts in that sort of effort can be in the finish in a race that has fallen away.

Dangers: 7. Legend Has It went back to the trials after a disappointing showing here a month ago when in the market. Handy effort before that in a Midway at Randwick and seems to handle all ground. Worth another chance. 5. Just A Jedi is another with mixed efforts of late, won three starts back at Gosford over 1900m though had his chance at Canterbury last time at the same trip. On his best he can show up. 9. Power Of Attorney can bob up in a race like this. Had his chance at Gosford last start but in the small field has to be considered.

How to play it: Don Arcangelo WIN ($2.80 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Don Arcangelo runs fourth at Canterbury on January 21

Race 5 - 4:40PM HARRY ANGEL FIRST YEARLINGS HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

8. Beep Test is a promising filly resuming after enjoying a handy prep in the late winter/early spring. Fitter for two trials back and was asked to win the latest in good style. Placed on a heavy track on debut and both wins on soft so suited here and should run well.

Dangers: 7. Finally Realise is always around the mark in this sort of race and can be expected to be competitive, and chances enhance with an improving track. Boxed on well on the speed at Canterbury last time and is an each-way hope. 10. Roots is another promising type who won on debut at Goulburn (provincial meeting) then chased home Fangirl in a Listed race. Tempo against when beaten before a break. Sure to be hitting the line hard late. 6. Evening Bride won her first two this prep then ran on from last in a small field behind Jal Lei into third. Blinkers on first time and she has a case. 4. Epic Dan isn’t the silliest chance at big odds first-up on his favourite track with soft to heavy ground.

How to play it: Beep Test E/W ($4.00 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Beep Test wins a trial at Randwick on January 24

Race 6 - 5:15PM VINERY YEARLINGS HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

8. Overlord has his convictions but should run well here. Won on a heavy track first-up, disappointed in an on pace dominated race at Rosehill then just failed in a similar event here two weeks ago. Don’t mind him drawn out, if he gets some cover he can get last look at them.

Dangers: 12. Carlisle Bay will give a good sight up on the pace, he wasn’t able to get near the front last time at Rosehill in an on pacers race but he still made some ground late into fourth. Likes some give in the track and he can be very competitive. 5. Jailbreak hasn’t put a foot wrong in three runs back in this class and was solid behind Dajraan here two weeks ago running into fourth. Rain affected track won’t worry him and he’s in the mix. 4. Bethencourt resumes and generally runs well when fresh. Just couldn’t crack it for a win last time but ran three successive seconds in July and after two trials should be around the mark.

How to play it: Overlord E/W ($4.20 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: EVENS.

Overlord runs second at Warwick Farm on January 26

Race 7 - 5:50PM TAB HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

8. Eye See Things did have every chance to win first-up but imagine her condition just gave out a little late. Fitter for it, likes some give in the track and has rarely run a bad race so far. Drawn okay to suit the pattern of the day and if there is upside fitness wise she has top claims.

Dangers: 4. Hibiscus Lady is capable of running well here, while she’s been about midfield in her three runs back she’s only been beaten small margins and with the wide gate at the end of the day she might be able to sweep home into the finish. 14. Shanjomi is an interesting runner. Has a handy record and is unbeaten first-up, trialled twice at Ballina so must be showing something to kick off in town. Watch betting. 3. Lepreezy tried hard two starts back at Kensington then led and weakened at Rosehill. Down in class and if she finds the lead could take running down.

How to play it: Eye See Things E/W ($7.00 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: EVENS.

Eye See Things runs second at Canterbury on January 21
