Warwick Farm Winners - Tips For Wednesday 5th June

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Wednesday’s Warwick Farm meeting. Selections based on a heavy track.

Race 1 - 12:15PM KIA ORA PRAGUE HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

7. Humid is a half-sister to King’s Gambit on debut and she’s certainly not been overly pushed in her couple of recent trials. Commands plenty of respect.

Dangers: 1. Cinsault showed some promise in her two starts for placings at Kensington and Canterbury earlier this year. Worked home well in her trial and is one of the chances. 9. Poised is another debutant who has been runner-up in two trials over the short trip in this prep and held her own behind Lady Tassort in her latest. Hard to leave a Waterhouse/Bott youngster out. 3. Anarita has had the one trial and closed it off quite nicely at Gosford just over a week ago. Worth some thought.

How to play it: Humid WIN ($4.80 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 2 - 12:50PM DRINKWISE PLATE (1100 METRES)

7. True Amor had a bit of company up in the lead before boxing on okay on debut at Hawkesbury. Better for the run and can find a trail with a bit of speed engaged here. Look for an improved showing from him.

Dangers: 6. Tartaglia worked home without threatening when resuming at Warwick Farm two weeks ago. Might be wanting a shade further but if they get along up front he should be strong late. Keep in mind. 8. Zealously started an odds-on favourite and had to do a bit of work to find the lead before just fading late behind Concordia Wind at Gosford. Entitled to another chance. 3. Khaznah hasn’t missed a place in four starts and finds James McDonald for the first time. Drawn okay and has to be included in a wide open race.

How to play it: True Amor WIN ($6.50 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 3 - 1:25PM TAB PLATE (1300 METRES)

5. Snuba hit the line full of running in her latest trial at Warwick Farm two weeks ago, her first trial since January. Has taken a little time to make it to the races but if she runs up to that latest trial she’ll be very competitive.

Dangers: 7. Summer Soiree wasn’t disgraced at all when third at Gosford on a heavy track, fighting on strongly when challenged to be beaten 1.5 lengths. Gets in well with the 3kg claim and has a case to run well. 1. Feimazuo attacked the line hard late to be beaten narrowly at Dubbo third-up and while she’s coming into a metro maiden she’s found a winnable one. Each-way hopes. 3. I Am Famous is the half-sister to Classique Legend and she’s been disappointing to date with one placing from five starts. Fitter for two trials and with McDonald in the saddle she’s going to have every chance to show something.

How to play it: Snuba WIN ($3.70 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 4 - 2:00PM ALL TOO HARD @ VINERY STUD HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

3. Llanddwyn was a drifter in betting second-up but just failed when run down near the line in a similar race two weeks ago. Blinkers go on and she’ll get every chance to go one better from another inside alley.

Dangers: 4. The Extreme Cat hasn’t raced since a handy effort in a Midway in early March and was placed in a Benchmark 72 at this track before that. Easy trial winner leading in and bears close watching first-up. 13. Setombe ran up to some good support to break through on a heavy track at Hawkesbury when resuming. Can only have upside and well worth considering. 1. Eye Of The Fire was too good winning at Hawkesbury from the front two weeks ago. Won two from four and ready for a shot in town.

How to play it: Llanddwyn WIN ($5.50 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 5 - 2:35PM JAMES SQUIRE HANDICAP (2200 METRES)

1. Earth Dance is a lightly raced import who was dominant after making a sweeping run from the back and outsaying his rivals at Gosford on a heavy track. Looks progressive and this doesn’t appear any harder, sure to take beating again.

Dangers: 5. Naval Commission won at Scone second-up then endured a tough run but proved too good winning at 1800m at Kensington three weeks ago. Inside gate this time around and wet no issue. Logical danger. 3. Funambulist has run into some form of late and comes back a notch in class after placings in Benchmark 78 grade at his past two. Only has to hold form to be somewhere in the finish. 9. Marsabit can be a bit hit and miss and was placed in a similar race two starts back but didn’t back up three days later at Randwick. On his best form he could be placed here.

How to play it: Earth Dance WIN ($4.60 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 6 - 3:10PM TRIPLE TIME @ DARLEY HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

4. Defining is an honest mare who found herself a bit far back before running into third here two weeks ago. Placed on a heavy over this course prior to that. Should get a decent run from a middle gate and is a good each-way chance at least.

Dangers: 8. Hide Your Heart strung a few wins together early last preparation before stepping up to Benchmark 78 grade. She ran some nice races at that level and bears close watching fresh back slightly in class. 3. Atlantic Ocean was a shade disappointing here last time in the same race as Defining but his form prior, including a heavy track second placing, was very consistent so he’s worth another chance. 12. West Of Africa is an interesting runner who hasn’t really struck his best form for a while but lands here with a wide gate and James McDonald and comes up early favourite. Hmm. If he does find his best then he’s a chance but be guided by the market.

How to play it: Defining EACH-WAY ($7.50 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 7 - 3:45PM PRECISE AIR HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

14. Tsarina Sophia rarely runs a bad race and fires first-up. She scored a runaway trial win leading in and while she’s not usually as fleet footed on race day if she can find a position somewhere in the first half she should be a major threat.

Dangers: 16. Demiana hasn’t raced since resuming with a close second at Rosehill back on April 27 and the switch to Warwick Farm from Rosehill is probably in her favour. Just needs to knock over that second win and she’s good chance to do that here. 11. Molly Nails went to a spell an easy winner at Canterbury as a short priced favourite and she’s another who is very effective when fresh. Must be respected. 8. Dazzling Lucy ran a solid race first-up at Flemington and has since trialled at Rosehill. Handles all ground and the extra 100m is a plus. Keep in mind.

How to play it: Tsarina Sophia WIN ($6.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 8 - 4:20PM ADMIRE MARS AT ARROWFIELD HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

2. Inquiring Minds was a month between runs going into his hard fought win over this course a couple of weeks ago so should strip a lot fitter. Has an extra 2kg to contend with but certainly strides a race that’s no harder. Could easily go on with the job.

Dangers: 7. Time Quest has promised a bit but hasn’t quite lived up to it yet. Will be fitter for his fourth behind Inquiring Minds off a two month break, is better at the weights, and has to be included in the chances. 8. Danish Prince has the blinkers back on after a couple of fair efforts in Midway company, particularly the latest. Generally a competitive type who races near the speed and handles all ground so he could bounce back. 1. Loco was first-up for a year when beaten three lengths at Sandown a few weeks ago. Drifter in the betting there so expect he will be fitter and any support would be significant.

How to play it: Inquiring Minds WIN ($2.40 TAB Fixed Odds).
