Warwick Farm Winners - Tips For Wednesday 5th January

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Wednesday’s Warwick Farm meeting. Selections based on a good to soft track.

Race 1 - 2:20PM HARRY ANGEL FIRST YEARLINGS PLATE (1200 METRES)

9. Stick To Your Guns showed plenty of promise in his first preparation and has come back in good order, it appears, from a bone chip removal at the end of that prep. Impressed in winning his latest trial and while he will need some luck from the wide gate he’s the one to beat. Read jockey Tom Sherry's comments here.

Dangers: 4. Destiny’s Bounty had every chance in the run on debut at Gosford and was just run down late by a horse with some talent in Overloard. That was on a heavy track, he’d be fitter and drawn to get a great run. Go well. 3. Cyber Attack has done more than enough in two trials at warrant keeping an eye on at his debut. Market some guide but stable in form and he has gate one. 2. Celtic Harp disappointed after sitting outside the leader in his last run at Canterbury almost two months ago. Gelded since then and did finish ahead of Dragonstone at his second start. Keep safe.

How to play it: Stick To Your Guns WIN ($1.95 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Race 2 - 2:55PM KEENELAND PLATE (1200 METRES)

This is the big moment for 11. Trifaccia to get on the board and there should be no excuses this time. Drew out and went back first-up at Canterbury, hitting the line strongly late but from an impossible position. Up 100m and drawn ideally, her best form is well above this field.

Dangers: 12. Vintage struck a heavy track at her only start almost a year ago now but has responded well to riding with two trial wins recently. She’ll be up on the pace and is one to keep a close eye on. 3. Hayami gave a sight in front when resuming at Hawkesbury and was only run down the last 100m or so. Fitter for that, likely on pace here and has each-way claims. 7. Po Kare Kare makes her debut with two solid enough trials under her belt and an inside draw. Market some guide but wouldn't surprise if she filled a placing.

How to play it: Trifaccia WIN ($1.40 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Race 3 - 3:30PM RANVET HANDICAP (2200 METRES)

10. Power Of Attorney was a nice hidden run last time out in a Midway at Randwick, warming up and running onto heels at the finish beaten four lengths. This is no harder and if last start was a sign he’s nearing a win he’s more than capable of featuring. Each-way.

Dangers: 7. Legend Has It comes through the same race and he was third-up there when running into third along the fence. Another just about ready to peak and with a claim and inside gate should get his chance. 1. Kaapfever was ridden a lot closer than usual last time at Randwick on Boxing Day and weakened. He has excellent stats on his home track and was narrowly beaten at his last start here. Capable of improvement especially if there’s some rain around. 4. Don Arcangelo has mixed his form this time in, two nice efforts and two ordinary ones, and comes off an even third at Canterbury where he was a drifter but ran on well. Include in the chances.

How to play it: Power Of Attorney E/W ($15 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Race 4 - 4:05PM THE AGENCY REAL ESTATE HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

3. Sword Point came back a new horse after a two month break with a dominant maiden win at Canterbury a few weeks ago and there’s no reason he can’t repeat the dose. Drawn nicely, can only be fitter and this is not a giant leap in class. Entitled to take beating.

Dangers: 1. Sweet Ruby has won two of her last three out of town split by a disappointing effort at Kensington. Drops 1kg for her easy Hawkesbury win last time and should be competitive here. 7. Just Tozza found the line quite well when resuming behind Toomuchtobear at Randwick and drops in grade for this. Fitter, did win a maiden second-up last preparation, and has an each-way chance. 4. Supremo overdid it in front at Randwick in the same race and dropped out. His first-up run was quite good off a wide gate at Kensington. Drawn well this time and while he needs to find a couple of lengths he gets his chance to.

How to play it: Sword Point WIN ($2.30 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: ODDS.

Sword Point wins at Canterbury on December 17

Race 5 - 4:40PM XXXX HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

9. Twitch looks close to a win after two excellent runs back. Edged out by Forzanini first-up at Gosford then did some nice late work into third in a similar race to this two weeks ago. Ideally suited with an extra 100m and handy draw and should go close.

Dangers: 6. Quatenus was runner-up in the same race and appeared to have her chance. She does meet Twitch better at the weights but drawn wide this time around. Must be considered hard to beat with even luck. 4. Tiny is racing well without winning and chalked up a fourth placing this time in when chasing home Bacchanalia and Dragonstone at Randwick. That’s pretty good form so it wouldn’t surprise if she breaks through.

How to play it: Twitch WIN ($3.40 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Twitch runs third at Warwick Farm on December 22

Race 6 - 5:15PM VINERY HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

1. Broken Arrows looks set to run a handy race first-up on the back of an impressive trial win here last month. It was a 1205m heat but he was slick when taking the inside run and dashed clear. Can be unlucky but usually runs well fresh. Good each-way chance.

Dangers: 2. Café Royal is a very good fresh performer and doesn’t mind the sting out of the track if there is some rain around. Fitter for two trials and while drawn wide here she’s more than capable of going close. 12. Concocted is the big query. He won on debut at Hawkesbury on a heavy track then runner-up at Rosehill in July. Beaten three lengths in the G3 Up And Coming at only other start. Not pressed in his latest trial, has gate two, blinkers on and James McDonald to ride. Must be respected. 15. Twice As Special has put two good runs together behind two in-form mares and is worth including in the chances. She doesn’t win out of turn but signs are good at present.

How to play it: Broken Arrows E/W ($5.50 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Broken Arrows wins a trial at Warwick Farm on December 16

Race 7 - 5:50PM TAB HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

13. Sur La Mer has the hoof right on the till for another win and only has to run up to her last effort to go close here. Gave the winner a cart into the race when run down narrowly at Randwick, draws well and handles all conditions. Strong claims.

Dangers: 12. Galaxy Belle won four of her last five starts before a spell and she should run a nice race fresh after sweeping home into a place in her latest trial. Yet to win first-up but 1400m suits and expect her to be hitting the line. 2. Mensa Missile was just denied first-up then led them up here two weeks ago and boxed on fairly well to run fourth behind Rubamos. Shade disappointing there but fit now after two runs back and sure to give a good account on the speed. 11. Kennedy Choice ran a nice race when resuming here then close up at Randwick in a BM78. More likely to be closer to the pace at this trip and could lift.

How to play it: Sur La Mer WIN ($2.90 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Sur La Mer runs second at Randwick on December 18
