Warwick Farm Winners - Tips For Wednesday 28th June

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Wednesday’s Warwick Farm meeting. Selections based on a good track.

Race 1 - 12:50PM FURPHY HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

12. Waterski is a half-sister to Trekking stepping out for the first time after two trials, the latest an on pace win at Rosehill. She probably just needs to settle a bit better in the run but she also looked to have a bit in hand. Expect her to run well.

Dangers: 11. Wasted Youth is also on debut and there was a lot to like about her latest trial win at Randwick two weeks ago. She led and stretched out nicely late to win by a big margin. If she brings that to the races she’ll be competitive. 7. I Am Famous was a $2 million yearling and is a half-sister to Everest winner Classique Legend. She worked home very nicely in her latest trial behind the placegetters. Chased home Waterski in her previous trial. Has every chance to impress from the inside gate. 1. Arctic Glamour has the race experience from a promising first-up effort over the same course on the long weekend. She closed it off well late, suggesting a little further would help but keep her safe here.

How to play it: Waterski WIN ($2.60 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Race 2 - 1:25PM HOME AFFAIRS @ COOLMORE HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

4. Crusader Razor went into his debut at Kensington off one trial and left it all too late as he ran on into fourth in a small field. It was a promising effort, though, and he’ll benefit from the run. If he strikes a genuine tempo here he should take holding out.

Dangers: 2. Zouprince was no match for the winner at his debut at Canterbury but stuck to the task quite well to hold down second. Draws well again and with the experience under his belt he can improve and he is a player. 14. Dazzle Legend kicked off with an even effort in a small field here back on June 12 making some ground without threatening with the leader winning. May want a touch further but no surprise if he shows up. 8. Marenaro was a $540,000 yearling and is a half-brother to Home Affairs. Not exposed in a couple of trials so be guided by the market but could surprise from the inside alley.

How to play it: Crusader Razor WIN ($3.30 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: EVENS.

Race 3 - 2:00PM BOWERMANS HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

10. Dakota Vroom is an interesting runner resuming since a very handy debut back in February chasing home Parisal. She bled in that race so had to be spelled but the effort was solid. One soft trial leading in where she closed off behind him. Market will be vital, keep safe.

Dangers: 2. Angel Fund is coming through the grades well with wins at Gosford and Wyong this time in. Rises 4kg on last start but drawn to get another soft run. Has to be respected. 1. Nana’s Wish is making her Oz debut for the Maher/Eustace team and is another big market watch. Her NZ form is okay without going overboard and she was outclassed at G2 level before a break. Nice recent trial and must be included. 5. Quilting ran a cheeky race from the back at Scone two starts ago at Listed level then led them up at Gosford and was reeled in as an odds-on favourite. Can give a sight here.

How to play it: Dakota Vroom WIN ($4.40 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: EVENS.

Race 4 - 2:35PM ROBRICK LODGE HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

2. Green Shadows hasn’t won for a while but finds a nice race to break through second-up after a strong return at Randwick a month ago. Was slowly out but kept finding the line in a BM78. Drops in class, up in distance and fitter with a tickover trial. Entitled to go close. Read co-trainer Sterling Alexiou's comments here.

Dangers: 7. Growl was a shade disappointing first-up but improved when running into third behind Iowna Merc and Kibou which is obviously pretty good form. Up 4kg for the class drop but gets every chance from an inside draw to continue his progress. 4. Able Willie has been racing well at this level since a break and tried hard when third behind Step Aside over 1300m a couple of weeks ago. This is probably the top of his distance range but is in the mix. 8. The Replicant trialled quite well before a solid return third behind Overriding at Newcastle. That horse has since won in town. Placed all three second-up runs and is capable of replicating that.

How to play it: Green Shadows WIN ($1.85 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Green Shadows runs second at Randwick on May 27

Race 5 - 3:10PM CASINO PRINCE @ VINERY STUD HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

1. Deep Snow had no luck when resuming at Canterbury, would have been interesting to see where he finished had he been able to wind up. That won’t be a problem from the outside gate and if he can find a back to follow there looks to be enough speed for him to hit the line. Go well.

Dangers: 5. Ramones ran second in the same race as Deep Snow after sitting handy to the speed and boxing on well. Fitter for it and he’ll be in this for a long way. 2. Master Showman is another on pacer who was just run down late by Step Aside over the 1300m here two weeks back. Consistent and sure to run another honest race. 9. Tashi didn’t come into it at all first-up at Randwick when kept safe in betting off a nice trial. Much better than that and she’s a likely improver.

How to play it: Deep Snow WIN ($4.00 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: ODDS.

Race 6 - 3:45PM TAB HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

3. Ottilie has been excellent without winning in two runs back and looks nicely placed here. Run down by Crafty Eagle fresh then trapped wide on speed and boxed on to be beaten a length last time at Randwick. Should find the lead and be hard to run down.

Dangers: 7. Nostalgia is a logical danger coming off an easy maiden win first-up at Canterbury. Meets a race with a bit of depth so it’ll be interesting to see if she handles the class rise but gets the set up to track the lead and should have her chance. 10. Terra Mater is an up and comer who beat a subsequent winner when scoring a nice win at Hawkesbury two weeks ago to go back-to-back. Yet to run a bad race and could measure up. 6. Smart Little Miss drew wide first-up and did a great job to run into third behind Omni Man and Insurrection which isn’t bad form. Kinder draw can see her sit closer and she’s an each-way chance.

How to play it: Ottilie WIN ($4.20 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: ODDS.

Ottilie runs fourth at Randwick on June 10

Race 7 - 4:20PM DRINKWISE MILE (1600 METRES)

1. Redwood Shadow has been crying out for a mile and gets it here after three runs back including his closing fourth at 1400m at Randwick behind Pascero. Down in class, if he can take any advantage of the draw he should be in the finish.

Dangers: 9. Socrates showed a return to form when cut down late by King Of The Castle over this course second-up and there’s a chance he could find a similar lead. Has claims if he can back it up. 7. Mr Bond might want this run before stepping up in distance but he ran a nice race second-up at Newcastle. One to keep an eye on. 2. Mutamanni won first-up at Sandown on a soft 7 then drifting favourite when safely held over the mile there back on June 10. Inclined to give him another chance given he pulled up with EIPH after that run. But suspect he’s under the odds.

How to play it: Redwood Shadow WIN ($3.60 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: ODDS.
