Warwick Farm Winners - Tips For Wednesday 27th July

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Wednesday’s Warwick Farm meeting. Selections based on a heavy track.

Race 1 - 12:50PM TAB HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

9. Miyoshi made a very promising debut in a similar race two weeks ago, running on from last to run Waverider Buoy to less than half a length. Heavy track experience a plus, shapes as though an extra 100m will assist and if she runs up to that effort could go one better. Read trainer Robert Quinn's comments here.

Dangers: 6. Aft Cabin is a half-brother to a couple of stakes winners in Multaja and Veranillo and while his trial win was on the synthetic he went about his business well. Not concerned about the wide gate at this start point on a heavy track. Keep safe. 13. Moonlight Grace produced a strong late burst to run into third on debut at Gosford over 1000m. That was on a heavy 10 so has ticked that box and the extra ground looks a plus. Interesting to see if she can measure up. 2. Avoidance started favourite on debut back in November and battled on after sitting on speed. Gelded and in both trials has been ridden off the pace. Hard to get a line on whether he’ll relish the heavy but have to include in the chances.

How to play it: Miyoshi WIN ($3.10 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Race 2 - 1:25PM FURPHY HANDICAP (2200 METRES)

2. Marakopa is flying of late and seems to be able to handle any ground. Won on a heavy at Randwick three back then close up in the Brisbane Cup. Tried hard last start, a month ago, in the Stayers Cup and while up in weight will appreciate the class drop. Sure to be competitive again.

Dangers: 1. So United looks close to a win now after finding his form in the last couple including a game second to La Chevalee at Randwick. On pacer who will give a good account. 3. The Milkybar Kid looked to be doing it very tough in the heavy 10 ground winning a two horse race here two weeks ago. On face value he’d have to improve to win this but he has now won three straight and is still lightly raced. Under the odds but has to be considered. 6. Tidal Creek is another lightly raced stayer less exposed than The Milkybar Kid. Well supported as favourite last time when placed at Canterbury after racing on pace. In the mix.

How to play it: Marakopa E/W ($5.00 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: EVENS.

Race 3 - 2:00PM VICTOR LUDORUM @ DARLEY HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

8. Vientiane looks a very promising filly and she was dominant on debut scoring on a heavy track at Canterbury a few weeks back. Both placegetters have since won to confirm the form, rises in class but has that upside and proven in the ground. Should be hard to beat.

Dangers: 1. The Empire had a handy preparation when he last raced a year ago and while he is coming off that long break he seems to be trialling well with a couple of synthetic hitouts. He did win on a heavy track here so the ground is no concern, and if right should run well. 5. Po Kare Kare was brilliant scoring second-up at Gosford, rounding them up from the tail of the field, but has since been a beaten favourite up to this grade. There were excuses and she’s been back to the trials. If she handles the ground is right in the finish. 2. Aeecee Express has been gelded since his late winter/early spring prep last year and his trialled have been okay. Yet to see a wet track of any kind on race day but did beat a couple of smart ones in his maiden win. Keep in mind.

How to play it: Vientiane WIN ($2.70 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Vientiane wins at Canterbury on July 7

Race 4 - 2:35PM HOME AFFAIRS @ COOLMORE HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

11. Bright Flight showed plenty of toughness to fight off a challenger when leading all the way over 1300m two weeks ago. Will roll forward and the wide gate is probably no disadvantage for a horse like her. You know she’ll fight and is a good chance to repeat.

Dangers: 7. Arbitration is a small query on a heavy track but her only exposure to it was on debut and she had excuses. Went to the paddock a winner in February and moved well in winning her latest trial. Commands respect. 8. Best Side had excuses at Scone when well supported but bounced back with a solid on pace win at Gosford, on a heavy 10. Likes to race on speed and could measure up. 5. Morioka got through the heavy track fine at Canterbury two starts ago, perhaps went a bit quick in front at Rosehill up in class subsequently. Entitled to another chance.

How to play it: Bright Flight E/W ($4.80 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: ODDS.

Race 5 - 3:10PM VINERY STALLIONS HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

9. Redwood Shadow made an encouraging debut for the Joe Pride stable when running a close third here a fortnight ago. Had support at odds there and ran right up to it, fitter for the run and imagine an extra 100m will be to his liking. Looks a good chance.

Dangers: 1. Travest has won four races and each of them have been at Warwick Farm so he’s dangerous on that stat alone. Loomed up at Canterbury on a heavy 10 last start and found one better in Fiordland, who has since run well in Saturday grade. Sure to run well. 5. Son Of Sampson gave a good sight in front when narrowly beaten by Overlord, in the same race as Redwood Shadow, from two weeks ago. If he can run up to that performance he could take running down again. 2. Royal Banquet broke a decent run of outs when scoring a strong win at Canterbury second-up, sitting on pace. Has to back that up now but did win on a heavy 10 at his only Warwick Farm attempt a couple of years ago.

How to play it: Redwood Shadow WIN ($4.00 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: ODDS.

Redwood Shadow runs third at Warwick Farm on July 13

Race 6 - 3:45PM CHINA HORSE CLUB HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

5. Flower Moon might have only beaten three rivals at Goulburn last start but she’s been excellent in all three runs this prep. Unbeaten in three heavy track starts, all of them at Goulburn, and that might be the edge she needs to measure up to this company.

Dangers: 7. Transplant is fitter for two runs back, solid first-up at Kensington in a blanket finish and while she had her chance at Hawkesbury after leading she wasn’t disgraced. Imagine she will be on speed again here and could be harder to run down. 11. Brave Maso comes through Highway form but she was a little unlucky not to go close when fourth at Rosehill last time, after striking some traffic with a wayward horse in front of her. Gets back and runs on and has each-way claims. 6. Air Of Alsace disappointed in a Midway at Rosehill second-up but on her first-up Midway run there she is well worth another chance on her home track.

How to play it: Flower Moon E/W ($5.00 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: ODDS.

Flower Moon wins at Goulburn on July 8

Race 7 - 4:20PM BOWERMANS HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

2. Lease is no stranger to wide gates and as an on-pacer he will go forward and look to slot in on speed. Drops out of Saturday class where he’s been racing quite well though did fade at Rosehill behind Alcyone last time. Blinkers go back on and on his previous form is the one to beat.

Dangers: 3. Rondino hit the line strongly to win over this course two starts back then not disgraced finishing midfield in a Midway at Randwick. Stays at the mile and he will be hitting the line better than most at the finish again. 8. Butch’n’bugs finished just ahead of Rondino in the Randwick Midway after turning near the tail. He’s racing well and last win was on a heavy 10 at Kembla in May. Each-way hopes. 6. Segrill started $12 in the same Midway and was a little disappointing though did draw gate one that day. Winner on a heavy 9 over this course three starts back and on that she would be capable of being in the finish.

How to play it: Lease WIN ($3.50 TAB Fixed Odds). Odds & Evens: SPLIT.

Lease runs third at Randwick on July 9
