Warwick Farm Winners - Tips For Wednesday 23rd October

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Wednesday’s Warwick Farm meeting. Selections based on a good track.

Race 1 - 2:15PM DRINKWISE PLATE (1300 METRES)

10. Strong Trade was a beaten favourite before a spell at Hawkesbury when he ran off the track badly before righting himself and hitting the line again. Gelded since that run and trialled nicely leading into this. Expect he’ll run well fresh at this trip.

Dangers: 5. Leconfield appeared to have his chance in the run when resuming at Kensington two weeks ago, he held on okay for fourth and will be fitter. Just comes back 100m in trip but drawn well and open to improvement. 8. Sisu Spirit was unwanted in betting on debut at Newcastle but kept coming to the line to be narrowly beaten over 1200m. Imagine he’ll try to roll forward from the wide gate and he’s worth keeping safe. 1. Divine Ella trialled very strongly leading into this first-up run and she didn’t do a whole lot wrong in her first preparation. Might want a little further but worth including in the chances.

How to play it: Strong Trade EACH-WAY ($6.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 2 - 2:50PM SCHWEPPES HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

2. Komodo Dragon was a beaten favourite at Kensington last start but he was five weeks between runs and just weakened late. So he’ll be fitter for that, his two wins prior at this distance were strong and he’ll get his chance to atone.

Dangers: 5. Aye Aye Captain broke through for a strong maiden win at Rosehill three weeks ago and in the style of a horse who will appreciate further than 1200m. Improving with each run and if she does again she’s right in the finish. 1. Evenflow led all the way to comfortable win over this distance qat Newcastle when resuming and the form out of it has held up okay. Draws to be right there again and could measure up. 3. The Three Hundred was beaten at odds-on at Hawkesbury first-up then led all the way at Rosehill three weeks back. Should go forward again and if he holds form he’s somewhere in the finish.

How to play it: Komodo Dragon WIN ($2.70 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 3 - 3:25PM TRIPLE TIME @ DARLEY HANDICAP (2140 METRES)

6. State Of America was dynamic winning a Midway by a big space on Epsom Day and looks well placed to back it up. He’s won at 2000m so the extra trip shouldn’t be a worry and gets an economical run from the inside gate. A repeat performance sees him go close.

Dangers: 3. Vaguer hit form quickly this time in with a solid on pace win over this sort of trip at the long weekend. Can only be fitter for the two runs back and is a definite chance. 5. Kadavar has run well without threatening in two runs back but he is a winner at 2400m so the extra ground is going to suit now third-up. Has claims. 8. Humanity might be ready to show something after midfield finishes in both runs this time in at shorter trips.

How to play it: State Of America WIN ($3.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 4 - 4:00PM ALL TOO HARD @ VINERY HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

8. Pisanello looks well placed first-up on the back of two excellent trials. Giga Kick ran him down in the first then he cruised into third in the latest a couple of weeks ago. Should have won first-up last prep and will get the tempo required to be finishing over the top. Hard to beat.

Dangers: 6. Another Cognac won impressively over this course in August and comes back in class after failing to fire at Rosehill almost a month ago. He’s another who would relish a good speed up front and has to be given another chance. 11. Split Decision is an interesting runner resuming with a nine lengths barrier trial win to her name. She’s twice a winner over 900m but isn’t generally a front-runner so the trial win is curious. Keep safe. 9. Ringarosa tends to perform well fresh and she showed some nice improvement in her second trial this time around. No surprise if she’s somewhere in the finish.

How to play it: Pisanello WIN ($2.30 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 5 - 4:35PM JAMES SQUIRE HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

4. French Endeavour is hard to go past despite stepping up a notch on her easy win at Kensington two weeks ago under 60kg. Takes on the boys and carries the same weight, draws well and she just seems to have come back better this time in.

Dangers: 3. Crafty Eagle can be a shade enigmatic but he was strongly supported when winning at the same Kensington meeting. Barrier isn’t as kind to him here but he does tend to race forward so may be able to offset it. Must be respected. 11. Need Some Luck has been a beaten favourite in both runs this time in and might be looking for the extra ground now. Should appreciate getting back onto a good track after chasing Ravenclaw home on soft last time. In the mix. 2. Zouatica comes off a strong all the way Kensington win second-up, has an extra 2kg here and the only real query is whether he’s now looking for the mile with the Big or Little Dance coming up for him next.

How to play it: French Endeavour WIN ($3.10 TAB Fixed Odds).

French Endeavour wins at Kensington on October 9

Race 6 - 5:10PM KEENELAND NOVEMBER BREEDING STOCK SALE HANDICAP (1300M)

6. Modesty is quite an interesting import having his first run here on the back of one trial where he swept home to be beaten 1.5 lengths in a blanket finish over the short trip. UK form suggests he’ll excel around a mile or so but no surprise to see him run well fresh.

Dangers: 9. Rapbidash went back to last when resuming at Kensington and found the line nicely first-up without looking a threat in an on pace dominated race. Fitter for that and drops further in weight. She’ll be running on well again. 3. Spanish Fox is flying of late with three straight wins and steps up again in class after an all the way success at Kensington. Down 1kg in weight and he can give a sight if he finds the lead. 4. Hello World found the front from gate one when winning at Kensington so will have some more work to do from the wider alley this time. Hard to leave out though as he makes his own luck.

How to play it: Modesty EACH-WAY ($8.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 7 - 5:45PM TAB HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

16. Anderson Bridge resumed with a handy second over this course earlier this month and in a similar event he’ll be fitter and he’s aided by a slightly softer draw. Gets a weight swing on the horse who beat him there and if he’s improved he gets his chance to turn the tables.

Dangers: 13. Be Real is a promising middle distance mare who was sound when resuming at Newcastle over 1500m, closing off late but finding it a touch sharp. Extra 100m a plus, she’ll be fitter and could easily be in the finish. 1. Ambassadorial enjoyed a nice run from the inside gate and proved a touch strong when resuming here beating Anderson Bridge. Is up 2kg but has to be respected as he’ll be in this a long way. 15. Interjection won twice at the provincials before stepping up to Listed company and boxing on okay behind Swiftfalcon at Randwick on Epsom Day. Takes on older horses here but have to include in the chances.

How to play it: Anderson Bridge WIN ($4.20 TAB Fixed Odds).
